Maltese MatthewMALTESE, Matthew V. Maltese  -  A beacon of positivity and strength, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

At the age of 40, surrounded by his family at his home in Pickering, Matthew’s vibrant spirit continued to shine brightly to the very end.

From the courts to the sidelines, Matthew's passion for basketball was unmatched.

He played with heart, and when MS stepped in to challenge him, he gracefully transitioned into coaching, where he continued to inspire and shape young athletes with his strategic insights and unwavering encouragement.

Matthew was the beloved son of Vito and Sheila Maltese, a supportive brother to Geoffrey and Kailynn, and the "Best Uncle Ever" to Matteo and Violetta. His love and laughter will also be dearly missed by his Grandmother - Auriel Hembruff, Nonna - Josie Maltese, and his aunts, uncles, and cousins who adored him.

A private cremation has taken place.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Matthew's remarkable life on Monday, May 6th, 2024, from 5 pm to 8 pm at  McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Old Kingston Road, Pickering Village, Ajax, ON, L1T 2Z7. This gathering will honor his enduring spirit, his contributions to the world of basketball, and his role as a mentor and friend.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to Para Sports Ontario, a cause close to Matthew’s heart, reflecting his dedication to the empowerment and development of athletes facing challenges.

Please no arrangements.

Join us in commemorating a life truly well-lived, filled with joy, resilience, and a profound love for friends, family, and the game of basketball.
