Hasiuk CatherineHASIUK, Catherine Hasiuk  -

June 20, 1940 - March 3, 2023

We are saddened to announce that at age 82, Catherine died on March 3, 2023 at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Center.

She was predeceased by her parents Anthony (Tony) and Ruby Hasiuk, and her brother Steve Hasiuk.

She is survived by her sisters Ann Olesky, and Marie Benedict, and nieces Anne-Marie Malek, Carolyn Olesky, Cathy Breault, Marian Chopic, Kimberley Benedict, Catherine Benedict, Janet Sommers, and Carolyn Nickelo, and nephews Steve Hasiuk, Paul Olesky, and Steve Olesky.

Catherine was born June 21, 1940 in Sydney NS.

At age 16 she completed a commercial high school program at Holy Angels and moved to Ottawa to take up a secretarial position with the Navy in the Dept. of National Defense.

In July of 1964 she moved from Toronto to work at Houdaille. Later she worked at General Motors and then the Oshawa General Hospital.

She was successful wherever she worked and was promoted to positions of more responsibility.

Catherine was a devout Catholic.

She made a number of religious pilgrimages to sites in Canada, the USA, Europe and the Holy Land.

She enjoyed going to mass with family members, especially her sister Ann. Catherine was a dedicated family member.

She enjoyed both hosting and attending family gatherings. She loved a good story or joke. She took on the role of favorite Chocha with love and joy, ensuring each person felt special.

Catherine had Baba’s sensitivity and compassion. She had the ability to relate to the less fortunate.

Her zest for life and easy conversation endeared her to all she met.

In her long struggle with Parkinson’s disease, Catherine left a final gift in her example of one who did all she could and with a dignified acceptance of that which she could not change.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre for their dedication and compassion.
