McConnell LouiseMcCONNELL, Louise   -

February 10, 1942 -  August 1, 2023

It is with great sadness that our family is sharing the news that Louise McConnell, nee Wells, lost her very brief battle with liver cancer; her loving Father and Saviour has called her home.

Surrounded by family, prayers and the love of those she loved so dearly, Louise passed peacefully in the morning hours of August 1st, 2023, at the age of 81.

Visitation will be held at Family Worship & Outreach Centre, 1731 Bloor Street, Courtice, ON L1E 2N1 on August 9, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and August 10, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service being held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Refreshments to immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers a donation to Family Worship Centre and Outreach or The Gate would be greatly appreciated.

Dedicated and loving wife to Reginald McConnell; loving mother to Darlene & Wayne and Jeff & Tina; loving grandmother to Amanda & Jonathan Speers and Lindsey & Thomas Richards. Loving (and very involved) great-grandmother to Hunter, London, Jack and Maeve.

Louise truly cherished the time she spent with each of her siblings and was a loving sister to Gilbert & Shirley, Earl & Ladonna, Wilson & Lynnda and James & Heather. And a wonderful aunt and great aunt to many.

Louise was born in 1942, in "Stanhope by Lewisporte" Newfoundland to Walter and Theresa Wells as the fourth of five children. In 1949, the Wells family made the difficult choice to move west to Ontario. Louise married Reginald in 1957 and raised their family in Toronto. By 1986, Louise had moved to Whitby where she lived with Jeff and Tina on Mozart Court.

The heart of the family with a generous nature, Louise was not scared of hard work and rarely sat still, which meant she was an active and involved grandmother, volunteering at the girls school and activities, attending more field trips then any other grandparent and still finding time to volunteer within the church. It was during this time that Louise took on care of yet another person, her Mama. She so selflessly opened her arms, home and heart just a little wider as Nana became part of the household on Mozart Court and so did Jonathan and Thomas. Louise once again made everyone feel so very important and loved and heard.

Famous for her banana bread, pizza, listening skills, prayers and ability to pull together a fabulous meal at midnight Louise’s loving acts of service and caregiving for those around her will forever be her legacy.

Louise created a wonderful community of friends and loved ones centred on her love of God, the church and her family. She made the world a better place just by showing up and being willing to help however she was needed.

In 2019 Louise and Reg moved to Bowmanville. As time passed Louise never slowed and despite the nearly decade of difference between her great-grandchildren and her now being in her 70s it was her cheerful attitude, faith in God and love for her family that kept her moving along. Louise would fill any gap in any part of her family’s life, doing all she could to make any difficult time as easy as possible. This often meant when you would call you would hear Hunter, London, Jack or Maeve in the background as she was in the process of building forts, staging battles, making cookies or serving ice cream for breakfast to which ever of her great-grandchild had decided to spend the night.

Louise was a wonderful person and although she knows we will miss her, she was truly ready to go home and see the place God has prepared especially for her.

"Don't cry for me, I am where I belong. I want you to be happy and try to stay strong...it was just my time, but I will see you someday...the angels are with me to welcome me home..."

Lou, Mom, Gran, Granny-ma: You spent your entire life loving us without measure. You shared your entire self with each of us in different ways and had a talent for making each of us feel so loved. You took us all in and celebrated each our accomplishments as our biggest cheerleader. You prayed with us and for us. You have shared with us your vast knowledge and taught us everything you knew. You accepted our flaws and helped us correct our course when we made a mistake. You are a woman to be admired and emulated. And you will be greatly missed. We love you.

As a family, the loss we are feeling is as large as the love and kindness Louise gave to us each unconditionally and we appreciate your prayers as we navigate this time. The family would like to thank all of those who have supported us during this time. Your words, messages, hugs, and flowers have been invaluable as we grieve this immeasurable loss.

Online condolences can be made at  BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME .
