Wilton MaryWILTON, Mary Anna Elizabeth Wilton (nee Hagan) -

May 17, 1931 – August 26, 2023

Mary died August 26, 2023, at her home in Oshawa in her 93rd year.

Born in Seneca Township, ON to Lawrence and Jean (Forbes) Hagan on the farm where she was raised.

Predeceased by her parents, husband Webster, brother Roy (Ruth and Enid) and sister-in-law Marion.

Survived by her daughter Alison.

When asked what she did for a living Mary often responded with “in what decade?” She had a number of careers: working with children in a variety of capacities, Salvation Army Officer, stay at home mom, retail sales, teacher of sewing and many other handcrafts and owning her own craft store.

In 1968 she married her husband Webster and they moved to Oshawa.  Several years later they had their only child, Alison.

Mary was always inquisitive, a voracious non-fiction reader, quiet. When she spoke it was with meaning, telling a story or making a speech at her beloved Toastmasters group.

Always calm and refused to worry.

She truly lived her faith, believing all people were equal in the eyes of God therefore treated all with kindness and compassion.

For 55 years she was a member of St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church in Oshawa.

The last 3 1/2 years of her life, Mary called the Bayshore TCU at Traditions of Durham her home. Thank you to all the staff who took such wonderful care of her these last years, especially in her last week of life. I am eternally grateful for the kindness, compassion, and love shown to my mother.

Visitation and funeral service will be held at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church in Oshawa on Friday September 1st.  Visitation will begin at 10am followed by the service at 11.  A private burial will follow at Centreton Cemetery in Centreton ON at a later date.

Online condolences can be made at  armstrongfh.ca .

In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Parkinson’s Canada or Community Care Durham.
