Miettinen ShirleyMIETTINEN, Shirley Jean -
April 13, 1937 – November 4, 2023

It is with profound sadness that the family of Shirley Jean Miettinen announces her passing on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Shirley was in her 86th year.

She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Miettinen and loving mother of Brian (Dorothy), Barry (Kim) and Glenn (predeceased).

She was the proud grandmother of Kate (Marco), Jessica (Gary), Stephanie (Nicklas), Sarah (Ty), Andrea (Luc), Dana and Alexandra (Noah) and great-grandmother of Laila, Siena, Bryson, Emma, Tilton and Dorothy. She was also a devoted aunt and sister-in-law.

Shirley was predeceased by her mother Ethel, father Ross, brother John and sister Beverley.

She is survived by her sister Ardyth and half-brothers and sisters, Gary, Marnie, Alan and Karen and brother-in-law Frank.

Shirley was a kind, caring and compassionate person who was quick to give a smile and put others before herself.

She was an avid reader, for a time an avid golfer, loved to talk to anyone, hear a joke or story, loved music and happiest when among family or baking with Dad making coffee bread or frying up the fish at the cottage.

Thank you for the care given by the Doctors and Nurses at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

A special thank you goes to the staff at Hillsdale Terraces LTC in Oshawa for almost 10 years of compassionate care and love. You were truly her second family.

Relatives and friends are invited to McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Friday, November 10th from 11:00 am until the time of service at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel. A reception will follow at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society of Durham Region or to the Canadian Mental Health Association Durham.
