Loucks JaniceLOUCKS, Janice Lee Loucks  -

SEPTEMBER 10, 1958 – NOVEMBER 4, 2023

Passed away peacefully by her side at the Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 at the age of 65 years.

Janice is survived by her loving daughter Sarah, granddaughter Echo, sisters Linda Porritt (Craig) and Emma Nancy (Rick Williamson).

She is also survived by loving niece Ashley, nephews Michael and Christopher, her former husband Bill Coe, and her beloved cat Miss Patches.

Janice had many cousins who will miss her, and many friends who are mourning her loss. She was predeceased by her parents Dick and Joyce (nee Sagriff) Loucks, and her twin brother Robert who survived two days after birth. Janice is finally reunited with her loving son Jerrod who she lost in 2016, and her good friend Tim Patton who passed away in 2017.

Janice attended school in Napanee, Belleville, and Oshawa. She was an athletic girl, who loved skating and running. In her teens, she had many interests - ringette, basketball, volleyball, Girl Guides; she played steel guitar, and she was an excellent pool player.

As a young woman Janice became a bathing suit model, working at the aqua show at the CNE, and competing in the Miss Oshawa pageant.

She moved to British Columbia twice, and held interesting jobs in a hazelnut factory and as an emergency dispatcher. However, family was back in Ontario and she eventually moved back here permanently in the 1980’s. For her whole life she loved camping and the outdoors, and animals of all kinds. Janice was known to be a softhearted and sensitive soul, and she loved to give small tokens of her affection. Her son Jerrod had epilepsy and for his entire life Janice worked to find the best treatments and comfort for him.

She also found great joy in charitable activities, particularly for breast cancer. Janice worked many years for Lasco Steel. Later, she attended Durham College and achieved a Certificate Degree as a Medical Secretary.

In the year 2000 Janice began working at the Region of Durham in the IT department, and was still an employee after 23 years.

Most recently, in spite of her illness, she found a new joy and energy in her granddaughter Echo. Janice felt so lucky and honoured to be with her daughter Sarah during the delivery of baby Echo. Janice had a goal to live to age 65 and she accomplished this in September.

She was a wonderful woman, a joy to know, a friend to many. Janice thought last of her self, and she bore her illness with grace and dignity.

Rest in peace our beloved friend, sister, mother, and grandmother. The family would like to thank her many PSWs from Community Care Durham and St. Elizabeth's Visiting Nurses as well as her VON Nurse, Dr. Popovic and Dr. Rothenstein, the team at the Oshawa Cancer Care Centre and the staff on 4F Supportive Care.
