JOHNSTON, Frederick “Fred” – Peacefully entered into rest on Monday, October 9, 2023 at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa, at the age of 83.
Fred is preceded in death by his father Frederick Johnston, his mother, Marie-Jean Johnston and sister, Connie Dickinson.
Fred was born in 1940 in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec and later moved to Ontario where he lived most of his life in both Oshawa and Fergus.
He worked for General Motors, retiring with over 39 years of service. Outside of work, Fred enjoyed going to church, watching hockey (Toronto Maple Leafs) & baseball (Toronto Blue Jays).
He volunteered with many organizations including Toronto Sick Kids Hospital and Grove Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus.
Fred never had any children of his own, but he was a father figure to Scott Dubeau and a proud great grandfather figure to Emma, Olivia and Benjamin Dubeau.
In keeping with Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service to honor Fred’s life will be held at the Central Church in Elora, Ontario on Saturday, November 25th, 2023 at 11am. Interment to follow at a later date.
If desired, memorial donations to Toronto Sick Kids Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
