Harris AuroreHARRIS, Aurore "Aurora" Marie (Nee Aubin) Harris -

May 5, 1938 – February 4, 2024

Aurore passed away peacefully at Smith Falls Hospital in the early hours of Feb 4, 2024.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert T. Harris, and by her siblings Gilbert (and his wife Margo), Janet (and her husband Phillip), Richard, May Rose (and her husband Munir), Victor, Raymond, and Marie.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters Grace (and her husband Jacques) and Annie (and her wife Laurel), and her grandson Rowan.

Also surviving are her brother Jean Mac (and his wife Denyse) and her sister-in-law Dianne, as well as many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

Aurore attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Sudbury and had a 40-year career in nursing, mostly in seniors’ care.

She was well regarded in her time as a nurse at Hillsdale Manor in Oshawa, and was a respected supervisor towards the end of her career, known for caring as much for her staff as she did the residents in her care.

Aurore was a devoted Catholic and member of the St. Gregory the Great parish in Oshawa.

In her retirement she was a dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League, and was awarded a medal of service in 2011. She also volunteered for the Liberal Party of Canada and worked for Elections Canada.

Although she lived with dementia for the last 12 years of her life, she always remembered those she loved and was happy to see them.

She moved from her own home in 2015 into Carolina Suites Retirement Home in Perth, and more recently into Broadview Nursing Home in Smith Falls.

Staff from both residences commented that she was easygoing, had a great sense of humour, and was a pleasure to have around. Though Aurore will be deeply missed by all who loved her, her family is also happy that she is at peace.

A funeral will be held in the spring.

Special thanks to Broadview Nursing Home and Perth & Smith Falls District Hospital for caring for her in her final moments.

Thanks as well to Blair and Son Funeral Home Perth for their compassionate and caring support while making all the requested arrangements.
