Smith JosephSMITH, Joseph  -

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away in his 99th year, on Friday, February 23rd, 2024.

Survived by his wife, Gloria (McIntyre).

Born on the family farm in Hastings, Ontario, Joseph’s life was marked by service, dedication, and love.

He was a devoted father to Kathy (Lee), Chris (Karen), Patti, Nancy, and Joanne (Kennedy).

His grandchildren Aaron (Carin), Carissa, Courtney (Aron), Matthew (Stephanie), Kristy, Olivia (Walker), Jack, Gregory (Georgia), Mia, and Phillip and great-grandchildren Mason, Liam, Emerson, Lincoln, Addalyn, and Callum

Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Mary (Monaghan), and survived by his sisters Rita Collin and Jean (Ross) Cotton.

He was also predeceased by his siblings Angus, James, Eleanor, twin brother Jack, Agnes, Leonard, and Doreen. His memory lives on in the hearts of many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

At the age of 18, Joseph enlisted in the Army and served overseas during WWII with the Cameron Highlanders. His experiences shaped his character, instilling in him a sense of duty and resilience.

In the early 1950s, Joseph settled in Oshawa, where he met Gloria—the love of his life. Together, they built a family home that would witness seven decades of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Joseph’s faith was unwavering. He dedicated countless years to St. Joseph the Worker Parish, volunteering with organizations like St. Vincent de Paul Society and March of Dimes.

He was also in the Cameron Highlanders. A quiet and gentle man, Joseph found solace in watching his favourite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was old enough to witness them win the Stanley Cup.

Whether tending to the yard or napping under a tree, he lived a life of simple contentment. Joseph Smith’s legacy is one of love, service, and devotion.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
