Hance MichaelHANCE, Michael “Mike” Hance  -

March 22, 1962 – February 28, 2024

Peacefully and surrounded by family, after a brief illness, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.

Beloved husband to Elizabeth, treasured father to Timothy (Monique).

Loving son to Harold “Pete” and Marlene, cherished brother to Kelly Tedesco (David).

Born in 1962 in Oshawa, Mike went on to graduate from Durham College with a diploma in graphic design.

He would later remind people that he was the last class to graduate without the use of computers. In 1980, he would meet the love of his life, Liz, at a party.

He would routinely say that this chance meeting was the best thing that ever happened to him. In 1994, Liz and Mike would welcome their only child, Tim.

His family meant the world to him, continually growing as it did. He would spend time playing guitar to them, teaching them the ins and outs of various parts of history, or debating them on numerous topics (and then switching sides once they both agreed).

Mike was always up for a good discussion. Mike meant so many things to so many people. It’s hard to sum up such a life well lived into a few short paragraphs.

He was a writer, a coach, a set designer, a musician. He was a constant presence in so many lives. Above all, he was a good man.

It’s alright now, close your eyes,
Sleep until once again I’m with you,
But for now I have to stay behind,
And try to go on without you.

Many thanks go out to all the medical staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and Mount Sinai Hospital. Mike lauded the dignity afforded to him and the care and compassion demonstrated by all who helped him.

Celebration of Life: March 17, 2024 from 1-4pm, Fernhill Community Centre , 144 Fernhill Blvd., Oshawa, ON L1J 5J3.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Cremation arrangements entrusted to McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME Ltd., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558).
