Ames HeaherAMES, Heather Ann Ames  -

DECEMBER 24, 1960 – MARCH 28, 2024

Heather Ann Ames, passed away on March 28, 2024, in her 64th year surrounded by love.

There is comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her parents Tom and Lorretta, her Aunt Mae, her brother Bernie and all her loved ones who have gone before her.

This ‘Lady’s’ presence will be truly missed.

Family meant everything to Heather.

She was first and foremost a loving and dedicated wife to her husband Scott Ames. They shared many adventures in their 38 years and created a beautiful family together. The bond between Heather and her three children, Andrew, Meredith (Adam) and Tori (Mitch), was nothing less than ‘incredible really’ (to steal a phrase from her dad Tom). Heather was the sixth of seven children, born Christmas Eve of 1960.

The Hurst kids were divided into two groups, ‘the four older ones’ and ‘the three younger ones’. Heather was part of the second group with George (Ally), Franny (Mike), with Barb (Joe), Bernie (Marion), Ellie (Gary), Chris (MaryJo) comprising the first, along with Greg (Sharon), her cousin, who grew up with the Hurst clan. To say she loved kids would be an understatement!

She was an aunt to Tim, Jeff, Angie, Michael, Colin, Gillian, Meghan, Lindsay, Matt, Megan, Daniel, Stephen, Lauren, Ryan, Jesse, Luke, Curt, Will, and a great aunt to 20 littles ones. She loved to host her tribe of nieces and nephews whenever she could. Her house was not only stocked with treats aplenty, but all their favourites. Heather graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in commerce and went to work at the Ministry of finance from 1984-2019.

It was there she met Patti Huzar and their friendship and antics began. Her aptitude for numbers could only be surpassed by her ability to track down an item she wanted to purchase! Heather had a mind like a steel trap and could recount memories and events like they were yesterday.

She never forgot a birthday and was always the first to send birthday wishes. Her nephew, Dan, was the lucky last recipient of an Aunty Heather birthday wish. Heather was an avid runner and would tackle the Grandview hill on the regular. Andrew took up her passion and together they ran like the wind… while she was able.

When she was not, she was on the sidelines with Mere, Tori and Scott, cheering him on. Heather and her kids referred to each other as BFF’s and aptly so. They traveled together, hung out together, Tori being her personal interior designer, and Mere her personal pharmacist.

There was nothing they couldn't or didn't do together. They were a team. Heather was one determined lady, and she had one goal, to stay with her family as long as she could, no matter the physical cost. Cancer took a lot of things from Heather, but it did not rob her of who she was, her personality, her humour (and she loves to laugh), or the ability to be present with those around her.

She never missed an opportunity to let her husband, kids, and all those around her know how much she loved and cared for them.

This courageous woman was a force to be reckoned with. It is hard to imagine a world without her.

The funeral service will be private.

Arrangements with OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME .
