LEWKO, Merle William - We lost a wonderful man on Saturday, November 11, 2017 in Oshawa, Ontario.
Merle William Lewko passed away peacefully at age 84, surrounded by his beloved wife of 64 years, Zennia, and his children Jennifer (Miles), Bill (Kim) and Alan (Janet).
He was the most loving husband, father and grandfather to Evan (Lindsay), Shane, Nicholas, Jacob and Nathan.
Fittingly, Merle passed away on Remembrance Day – now we have another hero to remember.
A successful, respected businessman, Merle was a self-made man with a zest for life, who set a high standard for hard work, humility and family. For over 50 years, he was particularly proud of his tireless work on behalf of the Oshawa community and St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church.
He leaves his brother Walter, and sisters Eleanor and Sylvia.
He was predeceased by brothers Nestor, Roman and Eugene, and sister Nadine.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16th from 5 to 9 pm at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King St. E., Oshawa, with a Panachyda (memorial service) at 7:30 pm.
Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial for Merle will be held on Friday, November 17th at 11 am at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church, 42 Lviv Blvd., Oshawa.
Donations in memory of Merle made to St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
