Thomson MaryTHOMSON, Mary Maddocks - (March 26, 1911 - March 14, 2018)

It is with profound sadness and yet with a great sense of gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the very peaceful passing of Mary Maddocks Thomson on Wednesday, March 14th, 2018 in her own home with family members present to surround her with love.

Mary was born in Manchester, England to Edward and Mary Jane Maddocks, and she had a younger sister, Eileen. Mary married Cecil Roland Ernest Thomson in Toronto on December 1st,1942, and they spent their married life in Vald'Or, Quebec, a gold-mining town.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Linda Raney(John) and Janie Meyers; her grandchildren, Beth Brannon(David), David Raney(Ann), Dustin Meyers and Jacquie Meyers(Justin); her ten great-grandchildren, Carlie Davis(Joel), Caitlyn Brannon, Luke Brannon, Tyler Brannon, Brett Brannon, Jessica Raney, Lauren Raney, Liam Raney, James Raney and Silas Meyers; and her great great granddaughter, Brooklyn Davis.

Five generations to celebrate...Mary has left a wonderful legacy.Mary's passion, next to her family, lay in the field of art. She was a pioneer in Val d'Or's art circles, establishing their vibrant Art Club, and when she moved to Toronto, she attended the Ontario College of Art, and graduated to both instruct a variety of classes in Toronto, and paint to her heart's delight both locally, within Canada and on number of International painting trips.

She was a Lifetime Member, Gold Level of Distinction Signature Member (had been juried into 36 shows), a Silver Anniversary Member and a 33 year member of the Toronto Watercolour Society. She cherished her time and experiences with many of her artist-friends.

Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Wednesday, March 21st from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. followed by Funeral Service at ALL SAINTS ANGLICAN CHURCH, 300 Dundas Street West, Whitby on Wednesday, March 21st at 11:30 a.m. Private Family Interment.
