McGINTY, Bernard  - At the age of 80, Bernard McGinty announced, "It's now statistically likely I'll make it to 92!"

Alas, several battles with skin cancer meant he only made it most of the way.

It is with great sadness that the children of Bernard McGinty announce his passing on Monday, June 4, 2018.

Born in Blackpool, England in 1929, he was lured to Canada after seeing a promotional film.

He first spotted Maureen Gallagher on a football pitch looking bored; she was the goalie in a ladies' league in Montreal.

Within six months they were married.

After a decade in Montreal, he moved the family to Pickering, ON, worked as a writer and editor, amassed a collection of books and music, and was very involved with his church.

Bernard leaves behind his brothers, Vincent in England and Terrance in Australia as well as numerous nieces and nephews in England, Ireland and the USA. His children, Joseph, Alan, Kathleen, Patricia (Andy), Kevin (Janet) and David, and granddaughters Georgina, Ciara and Brenna are hoping that his loving and merciful Lord will meet him at the Pearly Gates and not mind that his decrepit, tuneless, upright piano is magically floating behind him, still tinkling away. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society is appreciated.

Visitation at McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax. Friday, June 8th, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Service at Holy Redeemer Church, 796 Eyer Drive, Pickering. Saturday, June 9th, 11 a.m.
