Szkredka MichaelSZKREDKA, Michael  - (Retired Machinist, Canadian General Electric)

It is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved father and grandfather on June 7, 2018 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa at the age of 96.

Predeceased by his wife Vera (nee, Masson).

Michael was born in Mariampil Ukraine, February 28 1922.

He was captured and sentenced to a Siberian labour camp in Russia and went on to serve in the Polish division of the British 8th army, Italian Chapter in WWII.

With the support of the Allies fighting and winning the Battle of Monte Casino in Italy in 1943.

Our family has fond memories of how much he loved his garden, especially red begonias and red roses. He loved animals and had a soft spot for those that were injured or stray.

For as long as we can remember he read the newspaper front to back every day, remembering all the details of politics and world issues. He was an avid sports fan and always a dedicated and devoted Leaf fan, he so much wanted to see them win the cup again one day. He loved family "fiestas" where we would gather and enjoy delicious family meals, perogies and ribs were some of his favourites.

His keen memory amazed everyone and he was fiercely independent and lived on his own until he was admitted to hospital for 3 weeks prior to his passing. He will be sadly missed by his children; Michael, Lynn and Julia and their spouses; Bill and Tony, and his grandchildren; Ryan, Sarah, Adam, Michael and Brandon.

A private family burial was held at St. Wolodymyr and St. Olha Ukrainian cemetery in Courtice, June 11, 2018.
