Phyllis was born in Todmorden, then raised on a farm near Ballantrae where she became a valued hired girl in many neighbouring homes. In 1945 she and Charlie moved to Uxbridge where he operated the Shell Service Station for 18 years.
Phyllis was a volunteer nurse at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital and a devoted member of the Church of Christ at Pine Orchard. Phyllis was a talented landscape painter and a life-long reader, diarist, and scrapbook maker.
