“Hard to Believe” entered into eternal sleep surrounded by her devoted nieces and nephews at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Monday March 10, 2014.
Born April 14, 1922 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan to the late John and Annie Coleshaw.
She came from North Battleford to Ajax with her sister Mary and worked as a bomb girl where she met the love of her life Elmer Luke (deceased) for 51 years. She also worked in the cafeteria at Lakeridge Health Oshawa and the YWCA. Sister to John Jr, Bill, Lil (deceased), Geneva (deceased), Mary (deceased), Peggy (deceased), and Bob (deceased).
Thank you to Tara Williams for endless hours of crafting and friendship and her “special friend” Norma at Traditions of Durham. Julia was the “hostess with the mostest.” She enjoyed painting, crocheting, baking (cupboard cookies) and “Family Affairs”. Imagine!
Special thanks to Dr. Go and Dr. Osbourn, and the nurses on OC7 and 4F supportive care unit for their compassion and excellent care, every moment of everyday.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Julia Farewell, the beloved wife of Harley Elgin (Al) Farewell for sixty-eight years and loving mother of Michael (Alfred), Julia Anne, John (Claudia), Elgin (Lisa) and Mary Rose Bouwman (Harry).
Rose was a doting Grammie to Thomas (Alanna), Cynthia (Jeffrey), Daniel, Luke, Emily, Julia, William and Olivia, and proud great Grammie to Reilly and Bryce. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.
After a long and courageous struggle with complications from chronic asthma, Rose passed away in her 89th year on March 9, 2014during a brief stay at Ajax Pickering Hospital.
Rose was born “down home” in Moncton, New Brunswick, the daughter of John and Jesse Owens, and she was one of eight children (Annabelle, Bill, Lillian, Mary, Charlie, Ester, and is survived by her younger brother, Jimmy Owens (Joyce) who resides in Kelowna, BC). A lifelong romance began when Rose and Al met during World War II in Moncton while Al was serving in the RCAF. They raised their family in Oshawa and Midland and settled in Whitby in 1967.
Rose started her teaching career in a one-room school house in rural New Brunswick. She was highly respected as a teacher in Midland and Whitby. For over 40 years Rose volunteered with various organizations, especially the Good Luck Shop for Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. Through her life, Rose enjoyed many interests such as crocheting, knitting, reading, entertaining, cottage life, bird watching, line dancing and baking.
Rose has survived many of her dearest friends and will be missed by those that remain. The Farewell family greatly appreciate the support provided to Rose by her care providers and thanks especially Lynn for her loving care.
Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Thursday, March 13th from 5 – 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CATHOLIC CHURCH (903 Giffard Street, Whitby) on Friday, March 14th at 11:30 a.m. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.

Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy (Harris); sons Jim (Linda) of Stouffville, Bill (Lillian) of Aurora, Bruce (Vicki) of Burlington; grandchildren James (Danielle) of Vancouver, British Columbia, Steven (Cara) of Niagara Falls, Jennifer of Aurora, Kelly (Jason) of Lake Louise, Alberta and Tracy of Toronto, as well as his great-grandchildren: twins, Tom and Ali of Vancouver.
James also leaves behind his younger brother Doug (Ruth) of Queenstown, New Brunswick along with many nieces and nephews in the areas of Saint John and Fredericton, NB, Toronto, Ottawa, Lake Rosseau and Hamilton.
James was predeceased by brother Ken and sister-in-law Edrey of Saint John, NB. James was a proud Maritimer, born and raised in St. John, NB. James volunteered for the Canadian Army in February 1943. He served in Italy, Holland and Germany with the Princess Louise's Hussars and The Governor Generals Horse Guards.
After the war, James was employed with the City of Toronto, Parks Commission until his retirement in May 1981, after which he and Dorothy moved to Warkworth, ON.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service for James is being planned for a later date..

She was the beloved mother of Patricia (deceased), Owen (deceased), Stephen of North Bay, Anne of Cobourg, Laura (Bruce) of Port Perry, Margaret of Calgary AB and Paul (Lise) of Rothesay, NB. Loving and proud grandmother of Nicole, Megan, Vanessa, Candice, Alexis, Erin, Michael, Joshua, Desiree, Luke and Kael.
She loved an adventure, bingo, skip-bo, garage sale-ing, the colour purple, amethysts and ice cream with nuts. She was genuinely interested in people, was warm and friendly and kind to a fault, and always thought of others first. She was the best - a treasure in our hearts and will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends at the McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Old Kingston Road, Pickering Village, (Ajax), (905) 428-8488 on Saturday, April 12th from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. A service will be held in the chapel at 1 p.m. A celebration of life will also be held following the service from 2p.m. to 5 p.m.
