Peacefully at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa, on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in his 83rd year, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Dearly loved husband of Blanche. Dear father of Julie Daoust (Yves), Robert, Martin, Duncan (Denise), Pamela Van Dyk (Peter) and the late Linda Ward. Stepfather of Jeff Thomson (Kim) and the late Jill Thomson.
Predeceased by his sister Marion and brother Newton ("Bill").
Grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of three. Fondly remembered by sister-in-law B.J. Richmond (Bob), nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Born in Manchester, England, John was an amateur boxer and mechanic. In 1957 he immigrated to Canada with his first wife Pauline, eventually settling in Markham, Ontario. He managed an Esso service station and later established Ward Bros. Motors and Continental Cars, all with brother Bill. For the past 30 years he worked in commercial real estate sales.
He was active in Kiwanis, loved being on the golf course, enjoyed classical music and ballroom dancing and was an animal lover. He will be remembered as an "eternal optimist," also for his friendly and giving nature, love of family, and wonderful sense of humour.
Visitation at BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 5295 Thickson Rd. N., Whitby (905-655-3662), 7 - 9 p.m. on Friday, July 18th and from 2 - 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 19th.
A service to celebrate a life well lived will be held in the Barnes Chapel on Saturday, July 19th at 3 p.m., with reception to follow.

Retiree of the City of Oshawa passed away peacefully at the age of 86 with his wife Debbie and children by his side.
Morris will be loved and missed by his wife Debbie, his daughers; Christie and her husband Jay, Kathy and her husband Josh, and his sons; Mike and his wife Debbie and Gerry and his girlfriend Cheryl as well as his 14 grandchildren. Shirley passed away peacefully at Wynfield Nursing Home – Oshawa, with her beloved family at her side on Sunday July 6, 2014 at the age of 76.
Cherished mother of Carl (Suzanne), Paul, and Perry (Carol). Loving Grandma of Rebecca, Shannon, Brooke, Jorgia, and Arllis.
She was predeceased by her parents Howard and Jean Hoskin, sister Anna-Marie Greentree, brothers Gordon and Gary Hoskin, sister-in-law Joan Hoskin (Metcalfe) and brother-in-law Douglas Greentree, and her former spouse, Elgin Mason.
Shirley was one of ten children and will be lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters: Kenneth (Mary) Hoskin, Betty (Charlie Durno) Greentree, Jack (Carol) Hoskin, Donna (Bryan) Smith, Joanne Harper, Joe (Lois) Hoskin, sister-in-law Linda Hoskin and brother-in-law Neil Greentree. She will also be missed by her uncle Doug (Marilyn) Love and aunt Muriel Hoskin, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Shirley was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother. She had a great sense of humour and enjoyed her family and many friends. During her working days, Shirley worked in school cafeterias where she was appreciated and loved by the many students that visited the lunch rooms. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time at the family cottage at Crowe Lake.
Shirley has shown amazing strength as a cancer survivor over the past twelve years coping with the after effects of her many treatments.
Special thanks to the caring staff at The Wynfield (Oshawa) who have been Shirley’s caregivers for the past eight years.
Visitation will be held at the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice, ON (905-432-8484), on Saturday, July 12th, 2014 from 1pm - 2pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm.

Sam’s kind spirit and great sense of humour will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his passion and participation in hockey, softball, golf and curling.
In fact, he was inducted into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame and made an Honourary Life Member of the Oshawa Curling Club.
