BLACK, Elwood Henry -   "View Family Photos & Express Condolences"

Black_Elwood(December 21, 1941 - April 29, 2013)

On December 21, 1941, Elwood Henry Black was born in Cloyne, Ontario.

He was the son of John and Lily Black. His early years were spent in logging camps. Elwood worked for a few years for his father at the sawmill and trucking business. In 1963, he took a position at General Motors. Elwood retired in 1996 with 33.3 years service. He was most grateful for the life G.M. provided for his family.

Elwood married Eleanor Burke on July 18, 1964. They had 3 children; Jana Lee (Vic) Araujo, Jodi (Sal) Napolitano and Michael (Sara) Black. His grandchildren are Courtland, Keenan, Cameron and Brooklyn; Maria and Jack and Breccan.

Elwood loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting partridge, deer and moose. In retirement, he got involved in genealogy. He had a book printed "My Father's People" in 2004. That summer, he organized the first Black reunion since 1941. A great love for wood was evident. Elwood took great pride building small projects and several toys for his grandchildren.

Sports were a big part of Elwood's life. He played hockey and baseball. At 70, he quit playing ball and took up horseshoe pitching in Florida. Last summer, he and his partner represented Durham Region at the Ontario Senior games in Brampton.

Elwood and his wife, Eleanor, loved to travel. They traveled extensively for many years. The past twelve years were spent at their winter home in Florida. Elwood loved Buttonwood Bay Park and the wonderful people there.

On Monday, April 29, 2013 Elwood passed away peacefully at Toronto Western Hospital, surrounded by his family.

His love of family, friends and nature will never be forgotten.
