RATCLIFF, Gladys - Passed away surrounded by the love of family on December 1, 2018 at the age of 96.
Deeply loved by her son and daughter, Allan and Wendy, and grandchildren, Jamie and Alana. Lovingly remembered by daughter-in-law, Maggie and son-in-law, Jim. Cherished by nieces Phyllis Hunwicks, Joyce Pake and their dear families.
Reunited with her beloved husband, Cyril who was taken too early, and her dear sister and brother-in-law, Isabel and Sydney Redgrave.
Despite very poor health in recent years, her spirit and courage stayed to the last. She was bouyed throughout by thoughts and voices of her loved ones.
Gladys and Cy began their joyous married journey in Toronto on VE Day. Favourite activities in those 31 years were shared family meals, music, gardens, dancing or bowling with friends and neighbours, and family travel. Both taught in the Toronto elementary school system, where her special talent was music teaching.
On her own after Cy's passing, she bravely worked to engage life anew. A wonderful pianist, she lived her love of people and music in Anglican church choir direction and keyboards. A student of life, she enrolled in university courses, language study and organ.
Moving to Oakville in 1995, she found joy again in ballroom dance, song, family visits and her treasured growing grandchildren.
Her cheerful nature, loving kindness and quiet courage are a model to all who knew her. Her soft voice echoes in our hearts.
Sincerest thanks to all who cared and helped over the years, and to the angels at Sheridan Villa.
A private funeral service has already taken place. A celebration of her life will be held in the New Year.
