FLETCHER, Muriel Aileen - (July 19, 1924 – April 10, 2019) - Peacefully in the arms of her children on April 10, 2019 at Brampton Civic Hospital.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Don, and daughter, Susan.
Loving mother of Judy (the late Ted) and Paul (Deb). Cherished Grandmother of Kelly(Yvan), Dan(Ilana), Jenna(Aaron), Myles(Danielle), and Samantha(Ben). Dear “Gigi” of Alina, Milly, Hunter, Henry, Daphne, Élyse, Quinn and Brielle.
Muriel is described by many as the consummate lady. She was always elegantly coiffed, made up and dressed as though she was ready for any special occasion. She was warm and genuine, going out of her way to welcome newcomers and spread her love. She would light up like a neon sign whenever a baby crossed her lap – babies and children delighted her more than anything.
Her love of good music was profound. In the 1940’s Muriel sang in the Don Wright Chorus, doing a coast to coast radio broadcast on the CBC each week. Her own radio was always set loudly to the classical music station and she was known to regularly call the station to make requests or to enquire about a musical selection. She fervently supported a rich, music education in her children and grandchildren and studied voice herself with the late Eleanor Calbes.
Music theatre was also a big passion. She attended every professional and amateur music theatre production she could, amassing a huge collection of Playbills much to the dismay of her daughter in her downsizing. For many years she almost singlehandedly filled the Meadowvale Theatre with her friends and family to see her son and grandchildren perform in the annual CCMP production.
Muriel was always proud of her nursing background, having trained at the Ontario Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a Psychiatric Nurse prior to her marriage to Don. Their marriage was a beautiful union and they were blissfully in love until the day Don died prematurely in 1990. Their relationship gave a strong example of a good marriage to their offspring.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday April 27th at 3pm at Glen Oaks Funeral Home at Ninth Line and Dundas St., Oakville. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to www.musicounts.ca to support music education in schools.
