It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Sheila, at The Carpenter Hospice, Burlington on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the age of 78.

Much loved wife and best friend of James "Jim" Jones for 57 wonderful years of marriage.

Loving mother of Martin (Debra) and the late Alan. Cherished Grandmother of James (Jessica) and Mark. Dear sister of Tony Willcocks (Jackie) of Plymouth, U.K.

Sheila was born May 20, 1936 in Lamerton, Devon, England. She is predeceased by her parents Richard and Florence Willcocks.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Gathering will be held in Burlington on Saturday, January 3, 2015.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Carpenter Hospice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Tim Cuddy, who went above and beyond the call of duty and to all of our friends and neighbours who rallied around at our time of need.

Johannes 'John' van Bendegem, loving husband and best friend of Jacoba 'Coby' for 58 years. Dear father of Calvin and Rita of Oakville, Paul and Joyce of Regina, Urbane and Christine of Owen Sound, John and Paula of Halifax, the late Elaine and Rene Mast of Bracebridge.

Cherished Opa of Christopher, Sharon and Ryan, Cheryl and Wayne, Brad, Kurt and a great grand one on the way. Survived by sisters, Corrie and Truus and brother, Peter.

John will be remembered as a kind, gentle Christian man. He loved history, chess and art and was, himself, an artist. He was looked to as a source of wisdom by his grandchildren. He will be fondly missed.

Arrangements out of Acton. A Funeral Service will be at the Georgetown Christian Reformed Church, 11611 Trafalgar Road, Halton Hills on Saturday, January 3rd at 11 a.m.  Interment in Acton.

Smiley_MatthewBorn April 18, 1934 in Aldershot, Ontario. Died peacefully December 28, 2014 at Creek Way Village in Burlington, Ontario.

Matthew, the son of Hugh and Mary Smiley (nee Kelly), grew up on his family farm with his siblings Margaret Ann (Gord Willmes), Joseph (Anne), Robert (Betty), Marilyn (Joe Petrarca), Michael (Gaile) and Claire (Dave Grand).

Matthew was a loyal and dedicated employee for over 30 years to Royal Oak Dairy, having previously owned and operated a Texaco station. He started a family with wife of 9 years Peggy Doreen Rahm (1935-1965), and wife of 36 years Glenna Marlene Wright (1939-2003).

Matthew took immense pride in building his legacy. In his eyes, there was no greater accomplishment than his nine children: Kelly (Mark Rowe), Mark, Blake, Teresa (Mike Patrick), Julie, Shawn (John Moning), Rachel (Mike Blayney), Sarah (Mark Sawchyn) and Naomi (Kaitlyn Hourigan).

Proud grandfather to Matthew, Erin (John), Bridget (Shane), Stephanie (Greg), Jake, Steven, Jacob, Alison, Michelle (Mat), Sara (Rich), Shawn, Victoria, Sam, Hannah and Ben. Devoted great-grandfather to Arabella, John, Siena, Madison, Marissa and Mackenzie. Matthew was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the nurses, staff and volunteers at Carpenter Hospice who provided our family support and ensured Matthew's comfort.

Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Brant Street (at Blairholm), Burlington on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 10 a.m. Interment.

Donations may be made to The Carpenter Hospice or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

With deep sadness we announce the death of our beloved husband and father Stuart Malcolm Thomas on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at OTMH in Oakville.

Stu was lovingly devoted to his wife Donna (Mahyle) and his sons Greg and Mike. Much loved by sister Angela O'Donoghue, niece Alison, nephew Brian, brother-in-law Gary Mahyle, sister-in-law Terri and nephews Chris and Kevin.

Stu was born in Wales, UK, May 19, 1946 and grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. Stu received much fulfillment from his successful career as an IT consultant (Ford Canada, IBM Canada, Bell Canada, Amdahl and most recently Great West Life Company). But his greatest joy and fulfillment was derived from his involvement with the athletes of Special Olympics. He generously gave his time, knowledge, skill, expertise and leadership to empower every athlete to reach personal goals.

Stu will be sadly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and all who knew him.

Funeral services at St. Paul's United Church, 454 Rebecca St., Oakville on Sunday, January 4 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception at the gym. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's United Church or Special Olympics Ontario - Oakville.

Walker_GwenPassed away quietly in Burlington on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the age of 86.

Gwen was the beloved wife of Doug for 59 years. She was the loving mother of Jeff (Kim), Bruce, Lynda (Mike) and the cherished grandmother of Jessica.

Gwen was known for her boundless energy, her lust for life, her laughter, and her love for her family.

Born in Ottawa, the youngest of nine children, Gwen was a graduate of Ottawa Civic Hospital as a Registered Nurse (voted Class President). She later got married, moved to Toronto and worked at Toronto’s Sick Kids Hospital, becoming an assistant head nurse. After moving to Burlington and raising her three children, she returned to nursing at the Caroline Medical Group.

Gwen will also be remembered for her leadership and commitment to various groups at Appleby United Church. As well, she was active with the local chapter of the Engineers' Wives (President), Burlington Ladies Probus group, multiple service organizations, bridge clubs, and gourmet groups.

Private cremation to take place. A Service to celebrate Gwen’s life will be held in Burlington on Friday, January 2nd.

She is the last of the five Beston sisters and one brother.

Wife of Loch (2001), wonderful Mum to Michele (Bob) and Clive (Julie). Loved Nana of Michael, Christie, Derek, Brendan, and Jimmy.

She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews in England.

We would like to thank the wonderful second floor nursing staff of the Wenleigh LTC Nursing Home for their excellent care of Mum these past three years. She enjoyed her time there with many friends and their lovely cat Timmy.

Beloved husband of the late Doris (nee Merritt) Hannaford.

Loving Dad of Stanley (Agnes), Dorleen Johnston (Harold), E.J. (Jackie), and Christine. Cherished grandfather of 10 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Predeceased by his sister Lillian.

Jack was a volunteer driver with the Red Cross Society and for many years was a 8,000 mile Burlington Mall "Mall Walker."

Private Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will be held in Burlington on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.

A dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away surrounded by his family on December 27, 2014 after a short battle with cancer at St. Peter's Hospital, Hamilton.

Ross was truly a family man. He worked for 40 years at one company, many years as Computer Programmer, after which he became a beloved Crossing Guard for 11 years in Burlington, Ontario. He loved the kids.

His wife Doreen, family, and friends will miss him greatly. His sons, Kevin (Carmen), Mark (Brenda), Sean (Anne), Shane (Michelle), and daughter Lori-Anne Barre (Denis), along with the grandchildren, Kyrsten McDonald (Dan), Jason and Alexander Pennells, Sabrina and Desiree Pennells, Alycia Pennells, Matthew Pennells (fiancee, Samantha), Vichhey, Annelise, Julien, and Chiara Barre. Baby Luisa Joy Pennells will meet Grandpa in Heaven. He enjoyed visiting with great-grandchildren, Keziah and (new baby) Logan McDonald.

Ross had many friends in Burlington, Hamilton, and Dundas. Ross served as Treasurer in churches and seniors groups. He was a Sunday School teacher, an Elder in several churches over the years and volunteered everywhere he went. He had the ministry of Helps.

His beloved sister-in-law, Donna Winters, will miss him greatly, as well as friends at The Brant Centre, Burlington.

The Funeral Service will be in Oakville, Ontario on Friday, January 2, 2015. Cremation to follow.

Taylor_BillBill passed peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with his wife and two sons by his side. Bill had just celebrated his 79th birthday.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Roxie, son Mark and his wife Sara, son Paul and his wife Naomi, granddaughter Kate, grandson Thomas, his nieces and nephews Glen, Catharine, Diane, Michael and Arlene, extended family, and friends from the sailing community associated with the Mississauga Sailing Club.

He was predeceased by his sister Merle (Taylor) Ross.

Bill was born in Toronto in 1935 as a part of a long ancestral history in that area. His career was spent with Bell Canada as a part of the team that installed much of the modern telephone infrastructure in the GTA, including installation of telecommunications in the CN Tower during its construction.

He was a skilled hockey player in his youth, being recruited to play in the competitive industrial league in Toronto in the early 1950’s. He had a passion for downhill skiing, as an instructor, enthusiast and mentor to his two sons, family and friends. His other passion was sailing. He was an active honourary lifetime member of the Mississauga Sailing Club where he could be found sailing, talking with members, guests and regatta competitors, or helping out around the club year round.

His helpful spirit, enthusiasm, approachable nature and endless wisdom had an impact on many and will be dearly missed.

A funeral service will be held in Oakville on Saturday afternoon, January 3, 2015.

Immediately following the service, a lakefront celebration of Bill’s life will take place at the Harbour Banquet and Conference Centre, 2340 Ontario Street, Oakville. A private cremation will follow.

Passed away peacefully on December 27, 2014 at the age of 92.

We know he is already with his parents (W.D. Tod and Maude Fairchild) and brother (Douglass), scotch and pipe in hand, ready to take on all comers in a game of golf or bridge.

He is lovingly remembered by the love of his life and wife of 67 years Jean (Smith) and his six children; Gary (Lena), Judy (George Ridout), Bette (Terry Block), Sandie (Jim McArdle), Doug (Carolyn) and Nancy (John McKenzie), along with 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life, to share their stories and remember him for all his gifts at the Pig 'n Whistle (Hearthstone by the Lake), 100 Burloak Drive, Burlington, Ontario on January 11, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a short service to be held at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.

(February 25, 1926 - December 26, 2014) - Marie 'Therese' Thomas will be lovingly remembered as a cheerful loving sister and a favourite aunt who loved to sing, dance and laugh.

Therese, one of nine children of Armina and John Thomas was born in Georgetown, Guyana on February 25th, 1926 and went to school at the Ursuline convent in Georgetown. Therese moved to Montreal when she was 25 years of age and began her long career at Alcan. She was always loved by all who knew her.

Therese enjoyed tennis, bridge and loved to do her crosswords.

Therese's family would like to express its sincere appreciation to all the staff at Martha's Landing and to the wonderful team at Billings Court who became the family that sang with her and made it their mission to make her smile and laugh everyday.

Therese will be laid to rest with her sister, Mary Bernadette at Gates to Heaven in Burlington. A service and celebration of Therese's life will be held in the spring of 2015. Details to follow closer to the date.

Unelli_Joe(June 9, 1929 – December 25, 2014) - It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Joe in his 85th year, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. 

Joe is preceded in death by his loving wife Zella.  His parents Antonetta Nemesi and Angelo Unelli, his brothers Angelo (Risa), Charlie (Theresa), Sammy (Virgie), Louie and Carmie and sisters Mary (Bruno) DelFabro, Jenny (John) Prokop and sister-in-law Clara Charters.

He is survived by his sister Santa (Stu) Davy; sister -in-law Josie Unelli and brother-in-law Chester (Marilyn) Lazzarato. 

His legacy is in the love and pride he had in his children and grandchildren.  He will be sadly missed by his three daughters Linda Cihocki, Donna Unelli (Jake Sudac), and Paula DeOre.  He will be forever cherished by his six grandchildren, Bradley Cihocki, Alyssa, Lauren and Jordan Sudac, as well as Garrett and Cassandra Deore. 

Joe was  extremely talented and creative.  His career started at an early age drawing Christmas angels for the nuns in elementary school to graduating from the prestigious Ontario College of Art in Toronto.  Next it was to New York working on set designs for CBS.

His advertising career began at a small firm but flourished when he became part of the Robert Simpsons Company in Toronto. There he remained for 27 years to accomplish the title National Creative Advertising Director. Joe loved the fast pace of his industry and the city.

After his retirement he took on a new profession - that of teacher.  Joe then taught for 10 years at George Brown College.  He spent most of his down time painting, traveling with his wife, Zella and going for coffee with friends.  We will miss his delightful insight, perspective on life, affectionate advice and witticisms.  

Special thanks to Dr. Ragonetti and the staff at Creek Way Village for their exceptional care.

Bill retired in July 2012 after a successful career with the Bank of Montreal. Bill had a love of travel and enjoyed many trips around the world in his lifetime.

A memorial service will be held in Oakville on Tuesday, January 6th, 2014.
