Dear sister-in-law to Lorraine (Joe MacPherson), Carol (Peter Gaudun), Barbara (Hal DesRoches), Jim Shelton and John Roberts (Sharon). Predeceased by her parents John and Helen Bell and her sister-in-law Joan Shelton.

Thank you to Dr. Chung, Jean and the supportive and caring staff at CCAC for all of your wonderful care for Joan and our family.

The funeral service will be held in Milton on Thursday, June 26th.

Mom will be very sadly missed by her daughters Diana Byers (the late Carl Byers), Nancy Blain (the late Martin Blain), both of Burlington. Cherished grandmother of Ginny Marshall (the late Cory Marshall) of Foxboro, Craig (Teena) Blain of Boston MA, Lisa Blain of Toronto, Dillon Blain of Montreal, and great grandmother to D.J., and Halle.

Beloved sister of Rose (Edward) Baratto of Burlington. Predeceased by her parents Sam and Lena Silvestro, brothers Michael and Joseph, and sisters Nancy North, and Edith Marshall.

Memorial visitation will be held in Burlington on Tuesday, June 24th. In keeping with Stella’s wishes a private family service will be held.

Steane_DavidPassed away at age 56 on June 21, 2014 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital from complications of frontotemporal dementia.

He leaves behind a loving family including his two children, Michelle and Richard, and his brothers Allan, Brian and Robert.

Dave was born in Nelson, B.C. to Harold and Isobel Steane, and raised in Vancouver. He attended the University of British Columbia where he earned a degree in electrical engineering. After graduation, he moved to southern Ontario for a career in the electrical industry.

He married Randa Sabbagh, and they settled in Burlington, Ontario where they raised their family. They were together for over 26 years.

Dave loved taking his kids on long camping trips, where they created many fond memories. He was an avid scuba diver, and got Michelle interested at a young age; they explored many reefs together. He and Richard were enthusiastic fans of auto racing, particularly Formula 1, where there was a healthy rivalry between them.

The family enjoyed travelling together, visiting many parts of the world, from Caribbean islands to Australia. Dave was active in his church and contributed a lot of time to Burlington Area Scouts.

There will be a visitation at Appleby United Church, 4407 Spruce Ave., Burlington, Ontario on Saturday, June 28th at noon, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m.

With much love and great respect, we celebrate the life of Harry Vis, who passed away peacefully in his home on June 21, 2014 at the age of 82.

Harry lived his life with spirituality, integrity and humility. He devoted his life to caring for his wife Mary, who predeceased him in October 2013 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Throughout their 54-year marriage, Mary was always the centre of Harry’s world.

He was also an incredible role model for his six children, for whom he offered enduring love and support. He enjoyed an extraordinary 41-year career with Robin Hood Multifoods, for many years serving as President and CEO. Harry was a lifelong, devout Catholic who lived his faith through daily prayer and numerous charitable acts and donations.

He will be greatly missed and forever in the hearts of his six children and their families: Meg Vis and CeAnne Giovannini of Halifax, Cathy and Steve Previdsa of Mississauga, Tom Vis and Lyse Richer of Bethesda, Maryland, Robert and Delia Vis of Mississauga, Mike Vis of Toronto, Anne Vis and Keith Johnson of Princeton.

Harry was blessed with 11 beautiful grandchildren: Michael and Josh Previdsa, Xavier, Theodore and Maxime Richer Vis, Lisa and Donna Lucchetta, Alexa, Michael and Olivia Johnson and Clara Vis-Johnson. He will also be missed by his many friends, especially Elisa Cerrone.

Harry’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Nurse Next Door, whose efforts enabled him to live comfortably in his home despite significant medical challenges until his passing.

Arrangements out of Oakville. Funeral service will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, on Thursday, June 26th at 2 pm. Burial and reception to follow.

Sarah has moved on to another place where she's playing her guitar, singing with her beautiful unique voice and making all the other Angels smile.

Beloved husband of the late Lois (nee Howick).

Loving father of Shelley Stallworth, Connie Christopher (Nicholas), Scott Davidson (Sara) and Tom Davidson. Grandfather and great grandfather many times over. Also survived by his first wife, Joyce. Doug was predeceased by his siblings.

Active in community service, Doug was Past President of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, a Member of Brant Masonic Lodge No. 663 in Burlington and the Hamilton Scottish Rite and a Rotarian. He was also a member of the Hamilton Builders Association.

Doug was also politically active, at various times working as Campaign Manager for George Harrington, on the campaign team for George Kerr, and running for Alderman in Burlington.

Doug retired as Halton Regional Manager for Union Gas. He was instrumental in helping take Burlington from a small town to a thriving city, having many developments come across his desk.

Doug will be remembered as an athlete as well, having played Junior A hockey for Hamilton and St. Catharines and professionally for Buffalo in the American Hockey League. In 1948 he won the Mann Cup with the Hamilton Tigers Lacrosse Team, earning him a spot in the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Doug’s favourite thing to do was watch the sunset over Lake Ontario at the end of Shakespeare Avenue in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Arrangements out of Burlington. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering to celebrate Doug’s Life will be held at 750 East-West Line, Niagara-on-the-Lake on Saturday, June 28 from 1 - 5pm.

Ab was the “special pops” to Katie, Jayson and great-granddaughter Libby. He will also be missed by his brother Bev and his wife Marion and his sister Verna and her husband Jamie Webb.

Whether you knew her by “Alex” or “Annie”, she will always be remembered for her enthusiasm and zest for life. Alex was fiercely determined, forever optimistic, and full of kindness and love. She will be forever missed, and her kindred spirit will live on through those who knew and loved her.

Alex was the proud and loving mother of Hayley, and her husband John Harlock of Burlington, and Troy Fisher of Toronto. Much loved and deeply missed “Mimi” to Kieran, Sophie and Elliot Harlock.

Alex is survived by her mother, Anna Kohlruss, her brother Gunter (Debbie) Kohlruss, and her sister Renie (Jim) Wigood. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, as well as by her many friends both near and far. Alex is predeceased by her husband, Terry Kennedy, her father Michael Kohlruss, and her sister Helga Kohlruss.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, June 26th from 6:30pm-9:30pm at Spencer’s at the Waterfront, 1340 Lakeshore Road in Burlington.

A sincere thanks to Dr. Colin Schieman, Dr. Niv Sne, Dr. Ellen Clarke, as well as Nursing staff on 6 South at the Hamilton General Hospital, and the amazing staff at Carpenter House Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
