SEMPLE, Paul Gerard Semple Obituary | Print |

SEMPLE, Paul Gerard, P.Eng -

Semple_PaulPaul Semple passed away suddenly on April 15, 2015 at the age of 55, at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital from complications of kidney disease.

Paul was devoted to his family and will be sadly missed by beloved daughter, Alison Clare Semple and her mother Cheryl Vhal.

He is survived by siblings James (Fern), Robert (Ann), Margaret (Greg Dugdale), Esther (Tony Hayes), Joanne (Brian Hankinson), Barbara (Aubrey Kellawan), and brother-in-law Tod MacKellar, as well as 13 nieces and nephews; he was predeceased by sister Frances MacKellar (1989), and parents Campbell (2005) and Margaret Semple (2010).

Paul will be remembered fondly by the Vhal family, the Semples, his co-workers, and his many friends.

Paul was a well-known and respected leader in the mining industry with over 30 years of experience. He was Vice-President and General Manager of Kilborn Engineering Pacific Ltd., and Vice-President at SNC-Lavalin until 2001. Since then, he co-founded Penguin Automated Systems and was Vice-President of Projects for Western Goldfields. Since 2009, Paul has held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Noront Resources where he dedicated his talents and energies to resource development in Northern Ontario including development of opportunities for its First Nations communities.

He was an active member of the Canadian Institute of Mining and received the Past-President’s Medal in 2005 in recognition of his teamwork and leadership.

Paul was born in Englehart, ON, and raised in New Liskeard. He graduated in 1983 from Queen's University with a B.Sc. in Mining Engineering. Paul lived life to the fullest. He took great pleasure in many things: his career, the Bracebridge cottage, golf, his dogs, his friends and family, but most of all, his daughter Alison.

When kidney disease cast a dark shadow over Paul’s life in 2008 and limited some of his activities, he maintained his priorities with great courage and a determination that was apparent to all who knew him. Above all, he was a loving and devoted father.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 25th at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd W., Oakville, Ontario with visitation from 10:00 AM until time of the Memorial Service at 11:00AM, followed by a reception at Glen Abbey Golf Course, ClubLink Room.

Paul’s family is grateful for the excellent care of Dr. Daniel Sapir and the Oakville- Trafalgar Hospital Renal Clinic.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to DAREarts, a charity providing educational enrichment for children and at-risk youth, an organization where Paul held the position of chair of the Board of Directors; or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. What A Bloom Send Flowers

McMAHON, Marjorie Matilda McMahon Obituary | Print |

McMAHON, Marjorie Matilda -

McMahon_Marjorie(January 30, 1921 - April 13, 2015)

We are very sad to announce that our beloved mother peacefully left us to go to a better place. She will be welcomed at Heaven’s Gate by her husbands, Maurice McMahon and Garland Evans, the babies that she lost, her parents and her 15 siblings. She will be playing once again with her sister Kitty that she loved and talked so much about.

Mom will be terribly missed by her remaining eleven siblings in Newfoundland.

She was a woman who struggled, buried five babies and two husbands, raised eight girls, worked hard all her life but never lost her sense of kindness, generosity and hospitality taught to her from an early age by her parents. She was very proud of her family. Loved to tell stories of her life, playing bingo, cards at the Navy Club and her knitting. She was known by many as “the lady who knits.”

Her door was always open, whether you stopped in for a cup of tea or stayed for a year, everyone was welcome.

She has left a legacy of 72 people, including: eight daughters, Doris (Gordon), Sadie, Geri (Jacques), Patricia (Stan), Jackie (Joe), Kay, Betty, Donna (Roger). A proud Gramma to: Jo-Anne, Gordie Jr., David, Ricky, Wally, Debbie, Deanna, Rob, Mark, Lynn, Tim, Lisa, Pamela, Chad, Blaine, Dorothy, Jacques, Angela, Danny, Nicole, Joey, Alyssa, Julie and 41 great-grandchildren.

A private visitation for her daughters will take place on Friday and a celebration of this remarkable woman’s life will be held on Saturday, April 18th at 1:00 pm at Dynes Christian Centre, 4031 Fairview Street, Burlington, Ontario. All are welcome.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

OSORIO, Jovit Jerard Aurelio Osorio Obituary | Print |

OSORIO, Jovit Jerard Aurelio -

Osorio_Jovit(August 12, 1991 - April 13, 2015)

Second born to Gerardo Ocampo Osorio and Cely Aurelio Osorio on August 12, 1991 in Quezon City, Philippines. Beloved brother to Maria Cecilia-Joy and Maria CJ, beloved nephew to his aunts and uncles, beloved friend to many here and back in the Philippines.

He grew up and studied in the Philippines. He took up BS Hotel and Restaurant Management back in the Philippines and here took up courses in Police Academy because he wanted to pursue being a Crime Scene Investigator. He hated math like everyone else and loved recess and lunch. His friends know him as a prankster, jokester and all around cool guy. Always laughing and always sharing stories.

Growing up, he loved to cook and wanted to be chef in a famous restaurant. Not only does he love to cook, he loves to eat. As a young kid, he loved eating spaghetti and hotdogs and burgers. As he grew older, he loved lasagna and pizza. He hates fish and vegetables so don’t even try to offer it to him but loves all sorts of meat. He loves pancit canton, a Filipino brand of noodles and corned beef may it be in bread or rice.

In high school, he represented his class in swimming and won multiple awards. He was a very good dancer whether it be hip-hop or just plain fooling around. Like any teenager, he loves playing games on his computer. He was good in basketball back home and has come to love baseball here in Canada. He enjoys playing paintball with his uncle and friends. He would always be present during friendly poker games at family gatherings and won a couple of times in tournaments.

He would always joke around with Tatay Sammy and Mama Cit, his grandparents. He would hang around the house and watch movies even teleserye’s surprisingly. As a brother, he always kisses and hugs his sisters even if they refuse it. He teases them and makes fun of their hair or clothes they wear. At the same time, complements his sisters for trying to look nice. As a son, he was very loving and sweet. He would always say “I love you” to his mom even until now. He makes it a point to make sure his mom is doing okay and to always take care of herself.

He has such a good heart. Always polite to elders and never rude to anyone he talks to. He makes it a point to make you laugh and feel good just talking to him. He would always be smiling and trying his best to be the stronghold of the family. He dreamed of being a great husband and a good father in the future. He passed away thinking we was weak but in our hearts, he is one of the strongest and most courageous person we know.

He will forever be remembered and loved by his family and friends.

Funeral service will be held in Oakville on Saturday morning April 20th.
