POIRIER, Charles Poirier Obituary | Print |

POIRIER, Charles P. -

Poirier_CharlesCharles passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the Mississauga Trillium Hospital at the age of 77.

He was a loving husband to Colette (MacDonald) Poirier for 51 years. Caring father to Carol Ann and Clarence (Janice). Blessed with two grandchildren Ricky and Nicholas. Son of the late Sandy and Margaret (Cormier) Poirier.

Survived by sisters Yvonne (Laurie) Lunn, Theresa (Neil) Smith, and Phyllis (Benny) MacKinnon. Predeceased by brothers Ernest (Shirley), Simon (Sylvia) and sisters Molly (Buddy) Timmons and Lillian. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Charles will be remembered for many things. He was a tireless worker, who more than earned every paycheque paid to him. He loved his cars, as modest as they were. He had a particular soft spot for his 1966 Volkswagen Beetle. While others might have seen a funny-looking budget car, he saw something that he could only dream about in 1963 when he left Cape Breton to start factory-life in Toronto. He earned it. He loved telling stories about that car right up to his last days. He was not as fond of the 1976 Plymouth Scamp that followed ...

Of course, there was the fiddle. Always. Whether playing, step-dancing, listening to recordings, watching videos – Celtic music (or Scotch music, as he called it) is what most defined his life. Music was in his blood, in his bones and gave him the most joy (as least until he had grandkids, but music remained right up there on the list).

Perhaps what will be missed by most is his story-telling. Even if it was a story he'd told a hundred times before, he would inevitably start laughing so hard halfway through and the laughter would quickly spread to everyone else. He'd barely be able to finish his own story. It never got old.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Charles to the Canadian Transplant Association (http://organ-donation-works.org/english/home/ .

Visitation at Glen Oaks funeral home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, ONtario on Friday, August 28th from 1 - 3 pm. The funeral will begin at the funeral home at 3pm, with a reception to follow.Memorial Flowers Send Flowers

MAZUR-JEZIERSKI, Vicki Mazur Jezierski Obituary | Print |

MAZUR-JEZIERSKI, Vicki -

Mazur-Jezierski_VickiIt is with profound sadness that the family of Vicki Mazur-Jezierski wishes to announce her death on Monday, August 24, 2015 at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital in Dunnville, Ontario.

Born on 1 April, 1949 in B?dzin, Poland, Vicki (Wies?awa) was the youngest of four sisters: Henryka, Barbara, and Teresa. She met Richard (Ryszard) Mazur in Belgium in 1969 and together they travelled throughout Europe, immigrating to Toronto where they were married in 1976.

Vicki found a lifelong career as an Unemployment Insurance clerk with the Federal Government and in 1978 gave birth to the greatest source of pride in her life, her daughter Yvonne. After her separation from Richard in 1981, Vicki undertook the formidable role of single mother with grace and joy, even finding the time to spend each summer in Sauble Beach. She loved to travel and even back-packed in her fifties twice through Spain and Turkey.

In 2003 Vicki married Krzysztof Jezierski and in 2011 they moved to a quiet acreage on the Welland River near Wellandport, Ontario. A perfect spot for fishing, bird watching, and running their faithful dog Tosca, the property was abundant with nut and pear trees, as well as a large apple tree, the fruit of which she made into jams.

After 30 years of civil service, Vicki relished the chance to enjoy her hobbies of sewing, Polish crossword puzzles, and cooking her delicious barszcz.

Vicki was diagnosed with cancer in April, 2014 and died peacefully in her sleep with the knowledge that she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A visitation will take place at Oakview Funeral Home, 56 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, Ontario on Friday, August 28th from 7-9pm.

The funeral service will be held in Polish and English at St. Anthony’s Church at 40 John Street, Oakville on Saturday, August 29th at 11:00am.
