Predeceased by her husband Ignac in 1944.

Loving mother of Ignac and his wife Marica. Cherished grandmother of Suzanne and Miro Kutlesa, Michele and Frank Pozega, and great-grandmother of Adrianna, Lily, Marcus, Philip and Olivia. Survived by sisters-in-law Marica and Franca Domjancic.

Predeceased by brothers and sisters in Canada and Croatia. Katica will be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends in Canada and Croatia.

Stewart died peacefully at St. Joseph's Villa on Friday, January 23, 2015.

Stewart will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Donna of 53 years. Loving father of Kenneth (Tara) and Karen.

Survived by his sister Mary Gerskowitch (Paul) of England. Devoted grandfather to Russell, Oscar and Lucy.

Stewart worked at National Steel Car for 35 years. He was a dedicated volunteer at OACETT (Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists) for over 40 years. As well, he was an avid member of Chedoke Golf Club for many years.

Cremation has taken place. A private family interment to follow.

In loving memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Beloved husband of Gail (nee Harrell) for 55 years. Loving father to Bradley Donoff (Jacqueline), Craig Donoff (Nadine), and Jennifer Scarfe. Proud grandfather to Sarah, Kelly, Maxwell, and Clarice Donoff.

Roy is predeceased by his parents Paul and Catherine. Beloved brother to Judy Carrick (the late Harold), and Rick Doneff (Francis). Brother-in-law to Deloros, Veronica (the late Ed), Roberta (Gerry), Lucille (Wayne), Iris (Jim), and Valerie (Ron). Roy will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff in ICU at the Juravinski for their compassionate care of Roy during his stay.

Roy’s sense of humour and charm will be missed by all who knew him.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Roy’s life will take place in Stoney Creek on Friday, January 30th.

Dear sister of Veronique, Pat and Ida.  Rose will be sadly missed by many extended family members and friends.

Predeceased by her beloved husbands Alfred and Lewis and her siblings Clémence, Marie, Claude and Fern

Special thanks to her Idlewyld family who cared for Rose for many years.

Cremation has taken place. Private family service will be held to celebrate her life.

Peacefully on January 23, 2015 at Brant Centre in Burlington, Jane Penick in her 84th year.

Beloved wife of the late James Penick.

Loving mother of Alexander Young (Carla), the late Douglas Young (Sharon), and Hazel Young-Giambrone (Christopher). Step-mother of James Penick (Cony), Cindy Neal (Brian), and Larry Penick (Tammy). Dear grandmother of Andrew, Benjamin and Alexandra Young.

Dear sister of Margaret Graham and predeceased by brothers Archie and Billy and sister Beatrice. Survived by her nieces and nephew, Phyllis Coffield, Gerald Coffield, and Ann Marie Graham all of Scotland.

Jane was a past employee of the Hamilton School Board as a caretaker and a nursing assistant with St. Joseph's Villa in Dundas.

The family wishes to extend grateful thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Brant Centre and Joseph Brant hospital in Burlington.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service in Hamilton on Wednesday, January 28th. Burial to take place at a later date.

Ward_MadelineAt St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke, Madeline Elizabeth Ward of Brantford, in her 93rd year, was given passage to peace in God’s care. 

Madeline was predeceased by her husband, the late Harry Ward, her parents Robert and Lizzie Mitchell, her brother Gordon and sisters Lillian, Netta and Allison.

Madeline will be forever and sorely missed by her daughter Barb and her husband Doug Lane, her grandson Ryan Lane, his wife Alicia, their daughter Ainsley, and Don Easterbrook. 

Aunt Madeline will live in the memories of her niece Susan Beliveau, her nephew Ed Ladd, his wife Madeline and their children Shawn, Dwayne and their families and, Mike, Chris and Danny Baker and their families.  She will be fondly remembered by Mike Moon. 

Madeline will evoke memories by some for her devotion to family and friends, by others for her caring ways and kindness to everyone, but to all as a quiet soul who always led with her generous nature, spirit and playful sense of humour. 

As per Madeline’s wishes, there will be a graveside service for family and friends on Thursday, January 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Brantford.

In lieu of flowers or donations, she would hope and we can hear her saying, “Get out there and make memories……wait, do you need some money?”

Petrella_ElioPassed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 22, 2015 with his wife Silvana at his side and surrounded by his loving family at the age of 90.

The eldest of 8 children, he was born August 23, 1924 in Pratola Peligna, Italy to Giovanni and Lucia. Loving brother of Salvatore, Frank, Nancy, Imperia, Agatha and predeceased by his brothers Antonio and Vittorio.

After serving in World War 2, Elio emigrated to Canada to start a new life with his parents, siblings, and wife Silvana who he married in 1950.

A tailor by trade, Elio had a long career in the industry - Burtol Cleaners, Sears and even owning his own business, Brant Cleaners.

He was active in promoting his Italian heritage through committee work with the Pratola Peligna annual events, Feast of Maria della Libera, Rossini Lodge and supporting St Basil's Parish.

Elio loved to spend time with his family and friends. He loved sharing stories of his life and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who were very special to him.

Elio is survived by his wife of 64 years Silvana; daughter, Lucy (Glen) Sharp; son John (Linda) Petrella; son Mario (Debbie) Petrella; son David (Tara) Petrella and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Special thanks to Diane and Dr Swan for the exceptional care given to Elio and family.

Taken unexpectedly on January 22, 2015, just eight days before her 13th birthday, about which she was so excited.

Precious daughter of Rebecca Taylor and Casey Smith.

Loving granddaughter of Kim Luton and Larry and Lindy Smith. Adored niece of Kellie Frankish, Matt and Bonnie Luton, Marshall Luton, Karen and Brian Hawkins, Kristi Nicholl and Neil Gregson, Amy and Gus Clemens, Janette Smith, and Craig and Sue Smith. Awesome cousin of Zara, Quinn, Kaylee, Ben, Rocco, Owen, Megan, Daniel, Adam and Nicole. 

Zoë's vibrant personality will be sorely missed by her extended family, friends and classmates. She was a Grade 7 student at Bellmoore Public School.  Zoë always had a big smile and a warm hug for everyone. Accepting of all, her passion for young children, swimming and animals was unrivaled.  Zoë was bigger than life. 

Heartfelt thanks go to Dr. John and Dr. Rob and the entire team of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at McMaster Children's Hospital, for their incredible efforts to save our little girl.

A Celebration of Zoë's life will be held on Tuesday, January 27th in Hamilton. Burial to follow.

Passed away peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital on Thursday, January 22, 2015, in her 98th year.

Predeceased by her beloved father and mother, her two brothers Harold and Arthur and her sisters Helen and Edie.

Survived by nieces and nephews.

Betty was Past President and Honorary Life member of both the Hamilton S.P.C.A and the Hamilton Kennel Club. She received the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee medal for her volunteer work for her beloved animals and the Order of Niagara for her work for Christ Church, Flamborough.

Betty was a founding member of the Senior Woodchippers of Dundas and a well-known carver in wood and soapstone.

She was blessed with wonderful friends and neighbours.

A Funeral for Betty will be held at Christ Church Flamborough, 92 Highway 8, Greensville on Monday morning at 11 o’clock, reception to follow. Interment.

She is predeceased by her sister Ilene Fulsom-Reid, brothers Ken, Howard and Cliff McBride; brothers-in-law Alvin Phillips, Stewart Schaeffer, Earl Fulsom, Andy Reid, John (Joyce) Anderson, Leonard (Dorothy) Anderson, sister-in-law Eileen Fulsom and Annamae Pearce.

She was a life member of the Garnet United Church UCW, serving for over 50 years.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 24 in Jarvis. Interment.

Joyce was the owner and administrator of Proctor Manor Nursing Home for over 39 years.

Peacefully at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, Edward George McAndrew passed away at the age of 90 years.

Beloved husband of Marie McAndrew (deceased 2006). Loving father to Wayne (Karen), Brian (Sonja), Keith Cindy), Gary (Laurie), Barbara (Ron Plant) and Beverley (Michael McGee).

Proud Grandfather to Jeremy, Joshua, Rebecca, Sandra, Lydia, Rosie, Casey, Cooper, Aiden, Amanda, Ryan, Brandon, David, Patricia, Sacha, Matthew, Bethany, Emily, and Great Grandfather to Milo, Shyla, and Kylie. Will always be remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

He dedicated his time to the Champs Program providing hope and encouragement to children amputees. He enjoyed craft hobbies, was very talented with stained glass artwork, woodworking and needlepoint. He enjoyed photography, travelling, and was a great storyteller with a generous heart. He touched many lives and will remain forever in our hearts.

Arrangements out of Burlington. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 26th at 10:30 am, at St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Church 4072 New St.  Interment.

Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Passed away peacefully on January 21, 2015, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in his 88th year.

Predeceased by his loving wife Margaret, and first wife Della.

He will be missed by his children Neil, Scott, Nancy (Larry), Judy (Jim), Paul (Cheryl), and step-children Nancy (Dan), and Glen (Jean). Grandfather of Sarah, Jennifer, Jordan, and Alison.

Survived by his sister-in-law Leona McDermid. Predeceased by siblings Nellie, Harry, Jean, Earl, and Colin. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the nurses of ICU at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 24th in Hamilton. Burial will take place.

Passed away peacefully on January 21, 2015 in her 94th year.

Beloved wife of Eric for 70 years.

Lovingly remembered as “Aunt Dot” or “Aunt Doll” by many close friends and family from Hamilton, England and Australia. She was like a mother to many.

At Dorothy’s request there will be no services. Cremation has taken place.

Passed away on January 21, 2015 at the age of 88 at Grandview Lodge in Dunnville.

Predeceased by Hilton, her husband of 62 years.

Loving mother of Sharon Hicks (John) of Milton, and Maureen Bowles (Michael) of Niagara Falls. Dear grandmother to Paul Hicks, Derek (Aara) Bowles, Kristen (Mike) Burns and Lindsay (Joel) Ceccanese. Great-grandma to Tegan and Lennon Ceccanese and Tyler Bowles.

Survived by brother Donald Booker (Dunnville), sister Faye Martin (Hamilton), sister-in-law Norma Mowat (Sweet’s Corners) and brother-in-law Pres Featherstone (Stoney Creek) and many nieces and nephews.

Eileen worked with Dominion Stores for 27 years in Niagara Falls. She travelled extensively with Hilton after their retirement. They moved to Dunnville in 1997.

Arrangements out of Cayuga. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Dunnville on January 27th at 11 AM.

THOMAS, Nazareth 'Noah' Dean -

Dean_Nazareth_Noah_Noah left us peacefully, surrounded by his family on January 21, 2015 at the age of 32 years due to a single car accident.

Loving son of Teresa and Dean Thomas. Beloved brother of Tanya, Trisha (Brian), and Elissa (Dillan). Noah was an awesome uncle and will be missed by his nieces and nephews; Tanisha, Tyson, Travis, Autumn, Donavyn, Taylor, Jayson, Andre, and Xani.

Also survived by many aunties, uncles and cousins who will miss him dearly.

Predeceased by his grandparents Howard and Leatrice Thomas and Mary Atkins.

Noah was involved in Six Nations Fair, Grand River Pow Wow, Ohsweken Speedway, VP of Profit Corvairs hockey team, Community Living, and Old Mush Singers.

Resting at the Six Nations Community Hall, 1738 4th Line Rd., Ohsweken after 12 noon Saturday. Evening Service 7 pm. Saturday. Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 11:30 am. Burial to follow.


WESTERINK, Jack Westerink, Obituary | Print |


On January 21, 2015 the Lord took our dear husband, precious father, and much loved "Opa", Jack Westerink to his eternal home after a 4 year battle with ALS. He died peacefully in his wife's arms at home.

He was a much loved teacher and principal at Rehoboth Christian School, and will be missed by the hundreds of students whose lives he touched.

Jack was an "open book" who lived his life with so much joy and enthusiasm. He served as an elder in his church (Maranatha Free Reformed in Ancaster) and his greatest goal in life was that everyone would know the peace that passes all understanding, which he found in His Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Predeceased by a son, Benjamin George (August 1980 - January 1981).

He will be dearly missed by his faithful wife Lena who cared for him in his home until his last breath, his children Join (Willem) Bouma (Lena, Titus, Elijah, Jack, Ella), Sarah (Goran) Beric (Ethan, Maya, Roman, Lucas), Gerrit (Sarah) Westerink (Benjamin, Aliya).

Also grieving are his parents Gerrit and Johanna Westerink, sister Marg (Henk) Kleyn, brother Doug (Carolyn) Westerink, sister Joanne (Colin) Herd, and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be in the Hamilton Free Reformed Church, 1114 Old Mohawk Rd., Ancaster ON. L9G3K9 on Friday, January 23rd from 2 - 4 and 7- 9 pm.

Funeral will also take place at the church on Saturday, January 24th at 11:00 a.m. (Additional opportunity for viewing from 10-11).
