Peacefully at the Juravinski Hospital on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at the age of 81 years.
Predeceased by her husband Arthur. Loving mother of Alan and Theresa, Brian and Tracey, Fiona and Stan Cowley, and Ann and Guy Chiarot. Sadly missed by sixteen grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by her daughter-in-law Clara and James Stang. Predeceased by her son Arthur and grandsons Trevor and Brett. Lovingly remembered by her extended family members and friends.
Sarah was a retiree of Robinson's Department Store.

Peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, February 6, 2012 in his 92nd year.
Beloved husband and best friend of Joyce for 59 years. Loving father of Keirn (Cindi), Lorraine and Sherri-Ann Muse (Stephen). Cherished grandfather of Grant (Rebecca), Corey (Jessica), Kieran, Ethan and great-grandfather of Calum.
Survived by his sister Mary Heenan, predeceased by sister Margaret Heenan and brothers Joseph and William. Will be remembered by extended family and friends in Canada and Scotland.
Sonny was the owner of Aberdeen cleaning and longstanding member of many clubs, including, the 58 Legion, RHLI, VSL and Stoney Creek Seniors.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth), Hamilton on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm where the Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 9th at 11 am.

At his home on Monday, February 6, 2012 in his 74th year, Ted Davis, loving father of Rob (Sharon) Davis, Cheryl Davis, Tammy (Dave) Rowan.
Dear brother of Butch Davis, Kelly Davis, Shirley Jones, Jody Chamings and the late Bill Davis. Loving grandfather of Chelsea (Brian) and Dylan and great-grandfather of Kelsey and Shawn.
Ted joined the Brantford Fire Department in 1959, retiring in 1994. Ted’s career spanned 35 years and he served with distinction at many of Brantford’s major fires during this period. He was promoted to Captain in 1974 and was Platoon Chief in 1982, he was also the recipient of the Provincial Fire Services Long Service Medal and the Federal Fire Service Medal for Exemplary Service.
Ted was known as an avid sportsman, not only following the many amateur and professional teams but participating as a former member of the Brantford Old Timers Hockey Team. Ted also refereed high school football and Brantford Minor Hockey for many years. Ted was also a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Dunsdon Branch, member of the Navy Club and a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday in Brantford. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mary left us peacefully the 6th day of February, 2012 at the age of 93.
She was the eldest daughter of the late Walter and Jean (nee Ferguson) Laing of Dundas. Predeceased by her sisters Catherine, Jean and Margaret (Earle) and brother Douglas. She is survived by her sister-in-law Anna Laing of Cochrane, AB, nephews Stewart Laing (Annie) and their daughters Megan and Stephanie of Hanna, AB, George Laing (Suzie) and their sons Mark and Kyle of Singapore and Roger Laing of Calgary, AB, Ian Stewart MacDonald and his daughters Lyndsay, her son Aaron, Shannon and her daughter Kiera, Victoria and her daughter Faith Marie, all of Hamilton.
Mary spent 16 years of her life living and working in Ottawa, upon her return to Dundas she worked in Hamilton as a Secretary. Mary was a devoted member of the IODE for 60 years, a member of Claremont Chapter Hamilton and no matter where she lived, she sought out a chapter to join. She also was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Dundas.
Cremation will be held on Thursday. A Memorial Service will be announced for late June.
Family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the 2nd floor staff of the Assess and Restore Unit of St. Joseph's Villa for their kindness and care of Mary during her stay.

Born in the Netherlands Feb. 3, 1926 and immigrating to Canada in the 1950's, Aletta touched many lives - first as a devoted wife and mother, and also as a loving and competent nurse working at St. Peter's Hospital.

Ron was president/owner of Downing Products LTD which was recently acquired by Hypercoat. He was a hardworking, dedicated family man whose sole purpose was to provide for his wife, children, and grandchildren. From a young age he played hockey and baseball in Binbrook, and was an avid Leafs fan and sports enthusiast of all types.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held in Stoney Creek, on Thursday, February 9th.

MacDONALD, Blaine (Editorial Cartoonist) -
Blaine MacDonald passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, February 5, 2012.
He had a rewarding career as an Editorial Cartoonist at the Hamilton Spectator for over 30 years. He was only known by and used one name "Blaine" for his art and business work.
He will be immensely missed by his friend, lover, partner and confidant Ildiko, for more than 30 years. He leaves behind daughter Tana (Scott) and son Kirk (Melissa) and grandchildren Hayden, Jaxson, Maddison and Jayden; as well as his first wife Shirley (Dave) and his sisters Myrna (Elroy) and Linda and brother Darryle (Joan). He is pre-deceased by his father Tommy and mother Verna, his sisters Juanita and Elizabeth.
Blaine was born and grew up in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. He came from a humble and very talented family. He was inspired by his sister Myrna's drawing ability at a very young age. He was a dedicated, determined, ambitious, self-taught cartoonist, who also excelled in portrait drawings. Blaine was considered a "Master of Brush and Ink Sketching" from life.
"Blaine" was syndicated in North America and popular among Canadian, American and Mexican Cartoonists. He won every major award for his artistic abilities and creations. Some were: In Montreal - First Winner of Salon of Cartoons, Grand Prize and Popular Prize (in the same competition). In New York City, he won the coveted Reuben Award. In Toronto, twice winner of the National Newspaper Award. Freelance Commissions: the New York Times, Playboy Magazine, Time Magazine and Toronto Ad agencies. He was commissioned to draw portraits and cartoons which still adorn the offices of politicians, celebrities, C.E.O.s, doctors, judges, lawyers and athletes. His cartoons and drawings were published in school books, newspaper articles, advertisements and libraries. He achieved international recognition. His drawings are in libraries of President Richard Nixon and President L.B. Johnson and most currently in Scotland to honour Duncan MacPherson.
Blaine was all around talented. He had a black belt in karate. He built a recording studio at his home, played guitar, as well as wrote music and sang songs. He was one of the first people to create wedding and music videos. His great singing voice was praised by Anne Murray. Blaine's natural sense of humour brought laughter to everyone. Blaine was one of the first artists to use computers professionally for his work. He had published two books as well.
He enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a caring, generous man right to the end of his life. He loved to dance, sing and perform.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Tirone David at the Toronto General Hospital who saved his life twice, and Dr. Maureen Meade at Hamilton General Hospital I.C.U. who also saved his life twice and thanks to Dr. Hugh Sullivan, his cardiologist and Dr. Peter Loveless, his family doctor. Special thanks to the staff at Macassa Lodge and Dr. Shera for their care and compassion. Also thanks to his friends Janet Garbella, June Roberts, Clara and Tibor Solymosi, John and Vangie Barrow, Heinz and Barbie Triepel, Russell and Marilyn Matheson, Jim and Marilyn Larmour and Bob Morreale for their visits, support and encouragement to Blaine. Thanks to Graeme MacKay (present cartoonist for the Hamilton Spectator) for including and honouring Blaine in the last Cartoonist convention. It meant the world to him!

Passed away from a long-term illness on February 5th, 2012 at the age of sixty-nine.
Beloved wife and best friend of Frank for forty-four years. Loving mother of Tania and Mark (Kerri). Dearest sister of John (Ann) and Mark (Madeleine). Proud aunt to her nieces and nephews: Alan, Monika, Susan and Andy.
Her Slovenian heritage connects her to many extended relatives in Ontario, Slovenia and Argentina. Stephanie was born in Polhov Gradec, Slovenia and came to Timmins, ON at the age of twelve with her mother and brothers. Arriving in Canada, she was reunited with her father who had been working and arranging her family's new life for the past ten years.
Stephanie completed Teacher's College in North Bay and a Hons. B.A. degree at McMaster University. She taught for two years in Timmins and over thirty years for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.
Stephanie was a devoted Catholic who loved people and her family. A true zest for life was clear in her creative endeavours, love for travel and the outdoors. Her generous and kind nature will be missed by all of those whose lives she touched.
The family would like to express their thanks to the Oncology Department at the Juravinski Hospital.

WALKER, Clare Louise (nee TORY) -
January 11, 1915 - February 5, 2012
Clare was born at Hamilton Beach and grew up in the Hamilton/Burlington area.
She married Stan Walker in 1940 and moved permanently to Aurora, with the exception of about 3 years from 1943 to 1945 when she returned to Hamilton Beach to live with her mother, Hattie Revell and step-father, while Stan trained and served with the Canadian Armed Forces in Canada and then England. Clare was predeceased by Stan, who passed away in May 1988. Clare was a loving mother to Ron (Ann), Joan (John), Marilyn (John) and Peter (Mavis). She was adored by her 10 grandchildren - Brent and Sandy; Peter, Allison and Sarah; Dana, Tory and Haley; and Jennifer and Kent. She delighted in her 17 great- grandchildren - Kylie and Kamryn Walker; Chloe, Avery, Meredith and William Walker; Leah, Avery and Emily Alderman; Grayson Gillis; Charlie, Georgia and Ruby Pascoe; Grace and Eddie Gaunt; and Isaac and Jun Walker.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Sunrise.
Because of their caring support, Clare's wish to remain there until the end was honoured.
An amazing lady, an inspiration to all, always putting others first, one of the most selfless people you could meet - that was Clare. She has been a great teacher, not necessarily through words, but rather by example in the way she lived her life.

Loving husband of Phyllis Doreen Williamson for 58 years, residing at 310-495 Highway #8, in Stoney Creek.
Predeceased by his oldest son Richard. Survived by sons Ron (Trudy) of Dunnville, Steve (Debbie) and Joe (Cindy) of Grimsby. Also survived by seven granddaughters Lacie, Haley, Karlene, Michelle, Kristin, Brenda, Lindsay, and great Grandpa to Alaina and Paxton.
Joseph was employed at Sears for over 30 years.

Many nieces and nephews and their families will sorely miss Uncle Charlie. He also leaves to mourn his friends Greg and Taylor Baxter and their daughter Lainey and all his morning coffee buddies at Valley City Variety along with Vivienna, Guy and Cooney Jung.
Charlie was a long time member of the Canadian Vintage Modified Cars #79, and a faithful 40-year employee of SAS Petroleum Technologies.

A man loved and respected by all, Kirk William Burgess passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre in Hamilton, following a valiant and courageous battle with cancer.
Dedicated and beloved husband of Yolande for 39 years. Loving father of Amanda and Ryan. Treasured son of Amy and Bill. Proud brother of Coral and brother- in-law of Ron and uncle to Eli and Jenna. "Bestest Buddy" and grandfather of McKenzie and Kaiya. Respected brother-in-law and uncle to the Morin, Hepburn, Doyle, Harnden and McNally families. Father-in-law to Wes and "Captain Kirk" to Lindsay.
Friend to many, but lifelong and loyal friend to Herb and Meredith. Business partner and friend to Ed.
He left this life as he lived it - with the strength, character, honour, dignity and the pride of a warrior.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff in Ward 4C, the I.C.U. and C.I.C.U. of the Juravinski Hospital for their compassionate and exceptional care, and for serving in the trenches alongside us.

David had a long and successful business career. He had been a Trade Commissioner to Trinidad and Germany, and C.E.O. of Holstein Canada until 1993. He later worked as European representative for Destron-Fearing and was C.E.O. for the Egg Marketing Agency and worked to develop Omega-Nutrel. David was an avid cyclist, swimmer and conservationist.
Cremation has taken place. The Funeral Service to honour David’s life will be at St. ANDREW’S UNITED CHURCH, 95 Darling St., Brantford on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11:00 a.m.
