LAWSON, William Kenneth Lawson, Obituary | Print |

LAWSON, William Kenneth "Bill" -

Lawson_WilliamMay 17, 1919 - August 10, 2014

Born in Toronto, Bill’s career as a social worker with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind meant moves to London ON, Ottawa, and Hamilton before his retirement as Personnel Director for Ontario in Toronto, his home town.

In retirement Bill used his skills to fundraise for the John Milton Society, he was President from 1997 to 2000 and to maintain ties with retirees from CNIB through planning annual regional luncheons in Ontario.

Since the 1970?s he has had an interest in personal computers–joining a local club at the library for those who owned Timex/Sinclair computers. The group finally became quite elite when members filtered to only a few, meeting in each others’ homes.

Bill loved to sail when he had the chance, to camp, to read. He’d gladly wash dishes when somebody fed him. He walked every day for the past 30 years, dressed for the weather.  Friends always welcomed Bill’s cheery nature and whistle.

Following his wife Margaret’s lead, Bill made many friends from around the globe at a weekly conversation group for those learning English as a second language.

Bill was predeceased by his dear wife Margaret in 2012. They were married for 69 years. He leaves so many memories for his four children and their families: Bill of Burlington, Peter of Toronto, Wendy of Dundas, and Steve of Auckland NZ, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

The family values the love and companionship Bill received from his dear friend Letty.

A service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 29 Park Street, West, Dundas. Family and friends are welcome on Thursday August 28 at 2 pm.

ROBERTSON, Irving Ferguson Robertson, Obituary | Print |

ROBERTSON, Irving Ferguson  -

(October 14, 1926 - August 10, 2014)

Peacefully passed away, in his 88th year, leaving the "Love of his Life", Doris (Bartlett), married 66 years, September 4, 2014.

He is survived by his grieving daughter Karen and son-in-law Al.

My Dad lived for getting together with his family, Irv, Christy (Jon) and Kimberley (Mike). But most of all, he adored his Great-Grandchildren, his buddies, Jacob and Luca and his special princess, Brynne. A new great-grandchild born recently, he did not have a chance to meet, John Irving. He loved to see his sister, Jessie, so they could have a chance to chat.

Predeceased by his son, Irving Ferguson Jr. in 2007 and his four sisters, Margaret, Irene, Jeannie and Kathleen.

Since my brother's passing in 2007, my Dad's health deteriorated. Kidney Disease, Vascular Disease and Heart Disease led to 7 years of dialysis and amputation of a limb. Another amputation was to be performed this week, but he died due to a blood clot. No more pain, no more surgeries, no more suffering. My Dad is at peace and with my brother forever.

Over the years, my Dad had the best care of anyone I know. I truly hope I haven't left anyone out. To all the PSW's, nurses, who cared for him in his home at St. Elizabeth's, Rymal Rd., Judith, P.D. at St. Joseph's, Stoney Creek, and your colleagues, you were there at the beginning of his journey with dialysis, Sherri, Jen and Diane at St. Joseph's Charlton, you knew him inside and out. To Kathy Louch, CCAC, Courtney, Social Workers, St. Joseph's, Charlton, Regional Rehabilitation Centre at the General, where he lived for 3 months being fitted with a prosthetic leg, Dr. Iyer, Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Piercy, Urologist. All of you have had such a huge impact on his life and I cannot thank you all enough. Dr. Anastasio, the best family physician anyone could have. Thank you to you and your staff for the care you gave my Mom and Dad before going into the nursing home.

To the amazing, caring staff at Heritage Green Nursing Home. What would I have done without all of you, who were involved in my Dad's care over these last 8 months.  Recently, he told me that he really liked living at Heritage Green. He said, "As long as I have Doris, I will be fine". He actually told me this bit of news recently, "The meals are pretty good lately." He loved when you called him Papa and to him everyone was "Hon".

To the wonderful nursing staff at the Dialysis unit. To him, after 7 years on dialysis, you were his family too. Thank you for looking after my Dad, 3-1/2 hours, 3 times a week for 7 years. To Dr. Peter Margetts, I think you know how high up on a pedestal you are to my Dad and I. You saved my Dad's life when you came to their home a few years ago. You always took the time to sit with him and explain things over and over to him, if need be. How many "family" meetings did we have thinking he wasn't going to make it "again". Yes, I think we are right in guessing he was up to about his 12th life. As you said to me, in your kind letter, "I imagine if I look up a definition of "Stoic" in the dictionary, I would find a picture of your Dad". Yes, Dr. Margetts, I can visualize that too.

As per my Father's wishes, cremation and burial have taken place.

If you wish, donations to The Kidney Foundation or to The Bob Kemp Hospice would be appreciated. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. ~ Doris and Karen and Family
