SMITH, William Smith, Obituary | Print |

SMITH, William -

After a hard fought battle of almost two years, Bill lost in the late rounds and passed away Friday, with his family by his side.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen, of 44 years, who showed tender heart and devotion up until the end, loving him with every ounce she could give.

He was a proud and dedicated father to Christopher (Gina), Colin (Leeanne) and Jonathan (Kristie). He was smitten in his role as Papa to Fisher, Noah, Elliot, Maggie and Finn. He will be sorely missed by his brother Jim (Vel) and his sister Anne (Harry), all his nieces and nephews and countless friends.

He was always willing to lend a hand to strangers and friends alike. Bill was often the glue that kept things together and always had a busy social calendar. Some might say he was a modern day renaissance man, he was technologically ahead of the curve, well read and musically inclined. He loved to garden, was a wonderful artist and had a passion for sports and mother nature. His quiet times were spent reading in his favourite chair or fishing when he found the time.

Time spent with friends was what he and Eileen loved best. They travelled extensively and Bill was a proud and active member with the Local 18 Carpenters.

There are a lifetime of memories for anyone who crossed his path and made his acquaintance. There was always a lesson to be found with Bill. His demeanour was always calm and steady.

Our family is indebted to those who showed love and support over his lifetime and especially over the past two years.

Special thanks to the staff at Bob Kemp Hospice as well as Juravinski Hospital.

In accordance with Bill's wishes, the family will be having a private interment to say their last goodbye.
