SINCLAIR, Dale Patrick Sinclair - Obituary | Print |

SINCLAIR, Dale Patrick -

On July 29, 2015, at the age of 78, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Dale passed away at home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Glennyce (nee Roszell), devoted sons, Sean and Kirk, adoring daughters-in-law, Susan and Ashleigh, and sister, Barbara Meredith.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 16, 1937, Dale spent his early years on the South Shore. A natural athlete, he attended Bridgewater High School, where, at age 16, at the Acadia Games he set the Nova Scotia provincial record for the mile - a record that wouldn’t be broken for 16 years. Dale continued his athletic career at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, where he was a member of the wildly successful 1956 St. Mary’s Saints Football team, who were inducted into the St. Mary’s University Sports Hall of Fame in 2008, for their unprecedented success.

Dale turned his love of athletics into a long and fulfilling teaching and coaching career. After earning his BSc., BPEd., BEd.  degrees, he taught at Forest Hill Collegiate from 1965 to 1970 and Chaminade College School from 1971 to 1977 in Toronto.

In 1977, Dale and the love of his life Glennyce, followed the call to “Go West” and settled in Prince George, British Columbia. The West was good to the Sinclairs during their 11 years there, two sons were born and Dale taught at Duchess Park Secondary School until they returned to Ontario in 1988. Settling in Belleville, Dale continued teaching at St. Paul’s Secondary School in Trenton, where he remained until his retirement in 1997. He was committed to ‘his students’ and their academic and  athletic development throughout his entire 32 year teaching career, coaching football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, curling and gymnastics.

Dale was a true adventurer. He had a passion for camping, fishing, and travel. He was a sailor, a salesman, a railway worker, a coach, a teacher, a chef, and a master at playing the spoons. His loss is profoundly felt by family, friends, former teammates, teaching colleagues and students, from across Canada. His influence has been liberally sprinkled from coast to coast and we are all privileged for having known him.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Jonathan Kerr, Dr. Kristy Lafrance, the Kingston General Hospital Cancer Clinic, and the wonderful and caring nurses from ParaMed.

Visitation at Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, 30 Moira St. W, Belleville on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Funeral Mass will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 399 Victoria Ave., Belleville, on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Father T. Shea officiating. Cremation to follow.

Memorial donations may be made to SickKids Foundation or to World Vision.
