MARKER, James E. -
Born on June 27 1921 in Dayton, Ohio, died peacefully at home on May 1st, 2012 surrounded by the ones who loved and cared for him.
In a private service on Saturday, May 5th, Jim was taken home to be buried with his family in Ohio. Jim's wishes were that there would be no “Horse and Pony show."
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Edna (nee Andrews) and Wilbur Marker, his twin brother and sister, Donald and Doris, all who lived in the Dayton Ohio area.
Flying was Jim's love. As an avid pilot and A.M.E., the Belleville Flying Club commenced operation in the early '60's and gliding on the field began in 1969. There were about 300 members who, in the late 70's, were instrumental in bringing the Replica of the Spirit of St. Louis to stop at the Airfield to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lindberg's solo crossing to France.
“It was quite memorable for me, as a child of 6, Lindberg flew over our farm where I was born and raised when he returned from Paris and I saw it close up in flight during his tour of the USA and Canada on his return."
In 1974, Jim opened a Flight Training school which allowed many to obtain their private and commercial pilot's license. Even in his final days of life, trips to the Belleville Airport brought Jim great pleasure and many a smile.
Jim was both the inventor of and Vice-President of Hawkins Cheezies and a long-standing member of the Belleville Rotary Club since 1961, past President from 1967-1968 and an Honorary Member as of October 2008.
In remembrance of Jim, donations to the Belleville Rotary Club would be appreciated.
