Battling Alzheimer’s, Phyllis passed away peacefully after suffering a stroke in her 94th year.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Jarvis, of 71 years, daughters Bev (Larry), Debra (Jack), Heather (Denys), 5 grandchildren; Kerri (Dave), Jeff (Joanna), John (Ashley), Shawn, Jason (Genvieve) and 10 great-grandchildren; Julia, Sarah, Olivia, Ryan, Amy, Mackenzie, Carter, Liam, Ayden, and Breanna.

Our Baba was the pillar of strength and we loved her sense of humour, kindness and generosity.


Payne LarryPAYNE, Larry - (Resident of Wasage Beach, formerly of Coboconk, Ontario) - At the Collingwood General Marine Hospital on Monday evening, November 20, 2017 in his 66th year.

Loving father of Chris, Kristin (Chris), Erin (Chris), Amanda (Steve) and Allan (Alex). Fondly remembered by his grandchildren.

Dear brother of Don (Nona) and Rick (Shelley). Also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Larry worked at the Peel Board of Education as a Custodian for many years and was affectionately known to the children as Santa Claus.

Van Houdt MadridVAN HOUDT, Madrid (nee Zealand) - Passed away peacefully at Lindsay, Ontario on November 20, 2017 at the age of 79.

Madrid was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on September 2, 1939, the youngest daughter of Clement and Lulu Zealand (Bell). The family relocated to Dunsford, Ontario in the early 1950s. Madrid was predeceased by her siblings, Audrey, Gerald, Eileen and Shirley.

Madrid taught in Oshawa and at Curve Lake. Wife of the late John Van Houdt, she leaves behind son Gerald, (wife Lynne), and grandchildren Owen, Colin and Seth.


Marchand ReneMARCHAND, Marinus Adrianus Gerardus 'Rene' - (January 18, 1934 - November 19, 2017) -  Passed peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, November 19, 2017.

Marinus Adrianas Gerardus Marchand was born in Tilburg the Netherlands on January 18, 1934. He was the eldest of four siblings, including sisters Catherine and Mieke and brother Adrian. René joined the Army and performed his military service for two years from 1955 to 1957 in Holland.

Following in his father's footsteps, Rene completed his training as a hairstylist and began his career before marrying Antoinnetta Van Den Hout on January 20th, 1959.

Rene became a proud parent of a little girl, Carmen on September 29, 1959, soon followed by their second child, Yolande on February 1, 1961. In August 1962, Rene and Netty immigrated to Canada to begin a new life. On September 4, 1963, they welcomed their son Ivo into the world.


McLaughlan HughMcLAUGHLAN, Hugh - Passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 17, 2017, in his 87th year.

Eldest of six siblings, and is survived by brothers Jim (Coral), Robert (Alice) and his sister Barbara (Spud).

He was a loving father of Margaret (Jim) Whitlam, Jim (deceased), Isabel (Bill) Intoccia, Debra (Tom) Byrne and Gregory (Tammy) and a cherished grandfather of eight.

He leaves behind his loving companion Charlene of 23 years and her three children, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Eileen taught physical education at LCVI. She was the president of the Overseas Women’s Association and a chairman of the Fortnightly Book Club.
