APERS, Petrus Johannes Apers Obituary | Print |

APERS, Petrus Johannes

Apers_PetrusAs the sun rose on Thursday, April 4, 2013, Petrus Johannes Apers passed away peacefully with his loving wife and best friend Shirley by his side.

Born July 8, 1927, in Bergen Op Zoom, Netherlands to Petrus Johanna Apers and Johanna (Nuiten).  Predeceased by wife Wilhelmina J. (Mien) and an infant son.

Devoted father of Peter (Jacqueline), Anita (Mike), cherished step-father of Susan (Steve), Debbie (Peter), Kathie (Vince), Gary (Trish).

Much loved Poppas of Kylee, Steven, Derrick (Rachel), Michelle (Cary), Andy (Kim), Katie, Alissa and Tara. Great Grandpa to Amelia, Chloe, Brody and Kaylea.

Will be dearly missed by family and friends in the Netherlands and across Canada.

After being widowed early in life, Petrus and Shirley met and embraced all that life had to offer.  They retired early, travelled and enjoyed the gypsy life so many of us only dream of. He proudly became a Canadian citizen in 2012 after 55 years in Canada.

He enjoyed fine wines, gourmet food, sailing and spending time with family at the lake. He loved to host and attend parties, and up until the end was a great dancer.  He loved the outdoors and was always the first to take one of the grandchildren and family dogs out for a stroll.  He was a kind and gentle soul and in quiet conversations in the last few days, we asked him if he had “a wonderful life,” and he said with a smile on his face “absolutely."

His loving wife Shirley will miss him all the days of her life.  Rest in peace my love, and wait for me, so we can dance again, on the other side.

A funeral service will be held in Peterborough on Saturday, April 6th.

Donations in memory of Peter, may be made to the charity of your choice.

DAVIDSON, Marian A. (Smith) Davidson Obituary | Print |

DAVIDSON, Marian A. (nee Smith) -

Davidson_MarianIt is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our Mother and Grandmother on April 2nd, 2013.

Left to cherish Mom (Grandma’s) memory are her four sons: Mike and Diane of Oshawa and their children Julie (Tom), Jocelyn (Ryan) and Karen; Glen and Lis of Whitby and their children Matthew (Megan) and Craig; Mark of Ottawa; Grant and Julie of London and their children Ryan, James and Megan, as well as her brother Reg Smith of Winnipeg, and many nieces and nephews.

Marian was predeceased by her parents Arnold in 1977 and Eveline (Brown) in 1982, husband, Alan, in 1987 and her sister, Elaine Banks in 1997.

A proud prairies girl, Marian was born in Yorkton, Sask., raised in Winnipeg, Man. and had many fond memories of Glenboro, Man. Through his work with Air Canada, Marian and Al moved to Vancouver early in their marriage, later to Darmouth, N.S., on to Montreal, then Brampton Ont. and finally retiring to their home on Selwyn Bay on Chemong Lake, Ont. where she lovingly tendered her gardens for 26 years.

Those Air Canada passes meant regular visits with relatives in Winnipeg throughout the years. Always up for an adventure, Marian loved to camp all over Canada and to travel everywhere including South Africa, Pakistan, Syria; even being evacuated from Beijing during the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.

Marian has been a lifelong volunteer: for her children’s schools, including a band trip to England, teaching literacy for adults, and supporting penny drives for Grandmothers Together through the Stephen Lewis Foundation. As well, she’s been an active Seekers member for many years. She especially enjoyed family gatherings at the lake, spending time with her grandchildren and laughing with lifelong friends.

Marian was predeceased by her special friend Bill Wilson in January, 2013. Marian always appreciated how Bill and his family welcomed her into their family and we know the time she spent with them meant so much to her.

A funeral service will be held in Lakefield on Saturday, April 6th.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial donations may be made to Grandmothers Together, Peterborough, the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
