Blackwell_MariePassed away peacefully at her residence, St. Charles Village, on Monday, November 25, 2014 in her 98th year.

Beloved wife of the late Thomas Blackwell. Cherished mother of John Blackwell (Linda), Meryl White (Terry) and Joan Jenkins (George).

Sadly missed by her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dear sister of Muriel Petrie, Earl Buchanan and sister-in-law of Min Buchanan. Predeceased by her parents William and Alice Buchanan, brother Al Buchanan and sister Mary Park (Steve).

Marie was a longtime member of Central United Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #47 Welland.

Special thank you to the staff of St. Charles Village for their kindness and care of Marie.

Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Marie’s life will be held at Central United Church, 12 Young Street, Welland on Wednesday, December 3rd at 11 a.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Fortushniok_RosanneIt is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Rosanne Fortushniok on her birthday, November 25, 2014 at the Woolcott Wing in Welland at the age of 56.

Rosanne was the beloved wife of Gordon for 25 years. A devoted and loving mother, she leaves behind her son Dylan. Sadly missed by her family, Giustino Marcello (Francis), Vince Marcello (Giselle), Chiara Lariccia (Nicholas), Anna Iannotta (Joseph) and by Gord’s family, Joeen Pace (Ben), Brent Fortushniok (Fran), Lynn Nadeau (Bob) and Elizabeth Etmanskie (Larry).

Rosanne was predeceased by her parents, Michele and Antonietta Marcello and her in-laws, Joseph and Doreen Fortushniok. She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.

Rosanne worked for many years at Vasko Pharmacy and then Canal City Savings Credit Union. She loved to be known by her other name, Mama Rosa.

A special thank you to the compassionate and devoted nursing and medical staff on the 6th floor and the Woolcott Wing of the Welland Hospital for their care of “Mama Rosa”.

In keeping with Rosanne’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held in Welland on Saturday, November 29th. Interment to follow at Fonthill.

Loving mother of Margaret Thompson (John), Gail White (Gary), John (Lisa) and son-in-law Cal Langman. Cherished grandmother of Tom (Moreen), Stacey, Nancy (Shawn), Lee (Carey), Melissa, Jessica and Andrea. Devoted great grandmother of Jack, Taylor, John, Alexandra and Matthew.

Predeceased by her daughter Judy Langman, sister Mary Glanfield, and brother Joseph Bogdanich.

A service will be held in Welland on Saturday morning, with burial in Fonthill.

Dee was the beloved husband of the late Marie Manella, for 60 years.

Dear father of Donnie (Liz), Brian, and Donna (Joe) Murray. Cherished grandfather of Darrin, Sharon, Brad (Jen) Murray, Candice (Joel) Corriveau and Joey Murray. Great-grandfather of Nicholas and Jax. Loving brother of Frankie and Dolly.

Predeceased by his parents Ned and Francis Manella and siblings Peter, Ned (Butchy) and Rosie (John Ruskoff) and grandson Michael Manella.

Special thanks are extended to the staff at the St. Catharines General Hospital, Paula, Tammy and all CCAC Staff, and all staff at the Dialysis Center on Queen Street. And a very special thanks to Dr. Rabin.

Dee was a master car salesman for 35 years for GM, owned the Fallsway Mercury Dealership and was a Boxing Golden Glove Champion. Dee served 1942-1945 in Holland under Regiment Lorne Scot. He was an avid Leaf fan and Casino enthusiast. He loved his Christmas parties, dancing and cooking pasta and meatballs for his family every Sunday.

Arrangements out of Niagara Falls. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Ann. Rite of Committal will follow.

Beloved husband of the late Suzanne Corriveau Picard (2003).

Loving father of Céline Brochu, Doris Picard, Lorraine Poulin. Loving father-in-law and friend of Harvey Poulin. Proud and cherished grandpa of Natalie, Roxanne, Derek, Stephanie, Erika and Jarvin. Great grandfather to four great grandchildren.

Dear brother of Gisele and Freda. Leo is predeceased by his parents Peter and Exelia, brothers Alphonse, Charles, Jean-Louis and sisters Boma, Lucille, Rita. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

He will sadly be missed by his special furry friends, Rambo, Titus, Dexter and Onyx.

Leo moved to Welland from St-Magloire, Quebec in 1934 and worked at Welmet Industries, as a lead hand machinist. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially at his trailer at Sandy Shores. He had a passion for race horses and spending time in the sun. He had a love for sports, especially the Hamilton Tiger Cats, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Montreal Canadiens.

In the last 15 years of his life, Leo endured numerous illnesses that greatly deteriorated his quality of life. A special thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at Macassa Lodge, Dr. Khera, all the RN, RPN, PSW, that crossed Leo path, we thank you.

As requested by Leo, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 29th at Eglise Sacre-Coeur, 72 Empire St., Welland at 12 noon. A private family interment will take place following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Help a Child Smile Foundation or The Ronald McDonald House (Hamilton ON) will be greatly appreciated.

Survived by sister Bella Chenard and predeceased by siblings Marie Dubois, Marie-Anne Gauthier, Lea Manseau, Lucien Hebert, Fernand Hebert, Gilles Hebert and Clem Hebert. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews.  Sister-in-law of Roger (late Alboma) and late Marcelle (late Gerrad) Fournier.

Juliette was a lifetime member of St. Aloysius Church in Thorold South.

Violet was a life time member of Central United Church and her faith and her Church were her heart and soul. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone and her gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Arrangements out of Welland. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at Central United Church in January with the date and time to be determined.

Beloved wife of the late Jack (Red) Calder.

Cherished mother of Maureen Huckfield (the late Tom), Kathy Vout (Paul Brown), and the late Diane Matthews survived by her husband Doug Witts. Dear grandmother of Sean Vout (Tanya), Steve Vout, Chris Matthews (Sandra), Lily Bartolomie, Peter Bartolomie and the late Leonard Bartolomie.

Dear sister of the late Leo, the late Jim (the late Beryl), the late Jerry survived by his wife Lil and the late Lorne survived by his wife Shirley. Leona will be fondly remembered by brother Pat (Jeannette), and her great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Leona was a proud member of Canadian Corps Unit 44, Thorold serving on the Executive and with the Ladies Auxiliary. She had served her country as a Wren with the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. She retired from the Seafarers’ International Union where she was employed as a cook on various lakers.

Leona was an artist, her passions included painting, gardening, music, and she especially loved to dance. She thoroughly enjoyed her association with the Niagara District Art Association, Niagara Falls Horticultural Society, and the Thorold Senior Citizens Centre.

Leona’s family extends sincere appreciation to the staff at the Henley House, St. Catharines and at Caressant Care, Marmora, for their compassionate care.

Funeral service will be held in Thorold on Friday morning. Interment to follow at Fonthill.

Of Port Colborne, passed away after a brief illness at the Port Colborne General Hospital on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the age of 66 years.

Dearly beloved husband of Ginnie Christenson, loving father of Nancy Christenson (Ron Fancy) and Elaine Christenson, very special grandpa to Rachel Fancy. Brother of Ruth de Wijs (Kees), Alice Tyler (Frank), Charlie Christenson and Karen Bell (Bob), brother-in-law of Connie Ferguson and Jo-Anne Byers. Dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Arthur was predeceased by his parents Norman and Elizabeth Christenson and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Cecil and Marjorie McMartin.

He worked for Algoma Central Corporation for 42 years from where he retired. Art served as President of the Marine Club and was the National Council Representative for the Great Lakes Branch of the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineers.

Cremation has taken place.  Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 29th at Central United Church, 30 Delhi St., Port Colborne at 1:30 p.m.

Boss_HughSurrounded by his family, Hugh passed away peacefully on November 23rd, 2014 at Maple Park Lodge, Fort Erie, in his 86th year.

We lost a beautiful soul and Heaven has gained another Angel. It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and Papa.

Dear husband to Lois Kathleen, Loving father of Maurice, Benjamin & Tania, Melodie & Mike (Dakin) and Anita (Kesimaat). Cherished grandfather (Papa) of Ashley & Brandon Boss, Frank & Sabrina (Zucchet), Sara & Zach (Dakin).

Born in a family with 12 children and raised in Holland, he immigrated to Canada in the spring of 1951 (22 years old) where he worked in Wainfleet. After having his first son Maurice, he moved to Welland and worked at Haun Drop Forge for 30 years.

His family was his life, along with a real passion to share his faith in God. He expressed his love for God by taking the time to share the gospel with others. He showed God’s love by visiting others in their time of need and volunteering to preach the word in the Woolcott extended care wing (hospital). He will be greatly missed by the many hearts he touched.

Arrangements out of Welland. A service to celebrate Hugh’s life will be held at the Maranatha Reform Church, 42821 Hwy. #3, Wainfleet on Thursday, November 27th at 11 a.m. Interment to follow.

Mum was an incredibly selfless individual who was kind and well loved by everyone who knew her.

Rynberk_HildaIt is with sadness that we announce the passing of Hilda on Sunday, November 23rd, 2014 with her family at her side, at the age of 80 years.

Beloved wife of 57 years to the late Jan Rynberk (2012).

Cherished mother to John (Michelle) and Trish (Duane) Jones. Special Oma to Dawn, Erin, Colin, Adam, Josh, Devon (Brad) and Dakoda.  She will be sadly missed by her brothers Leonard, Dick and Neil.

Hilda was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1950.  She met and married Jan in 1954 and they settled in Wainfleet where they raised their family. She enjoyed baking, sewing and travelling, although her greatest joy came from spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Beloved wife of the late John (2010) for 59 years.

Mother of Debra, John (Vicki), Paul, Annette (Greg) and Shari (Rick). Loving gramma, g-ma, gammy-goo, granny pannies, Jeannie Beanie and grams of Jason (Rebecca), Jessica (Wendy), Karlie (Graeme), Paul (Hollie), Alison, Taryn (Mike), Eli, Travis, Cobie and Keanan.

Jean was an avid card shark, she loved music, dancing and gardening.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held in Niagara Falls on Friday, November 28th. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

In memory of Jean, donations can be made to the Geriatric Assessment Clinic of Niagara.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to management and staff at Lundy Manor and the St. Thomas More Card Club for their kindness.

Larry leaves behind his loving wife of 70 years Evelyn.

He will also be greatly missed by his children David (Jean) and Wendy (Jim predeceased), as well as his three grandchildren Steve (Liz), Andrea and Hilary and two great-grandchildren Josh and Katie.

Many will remember Larry for his many years working at Chesapeake & Ohio Railway and his volunteering of 25 years at the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club.

Hartnett_KazukoKazuko passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, November 22, 2014 surrounded by family at the age of 87.

She will be deeply missed by her loving husband Arnold. Daughter Kathy Hartnett of St. Catharines and son M/Cpl Tim Hartnett of CFB Trenton will treasure the memories of their dear mom.

Cherished Nan and Grandma of Owen Hartnett and Marissa Hartnett.

Dear sister-in-law of Irma Cavers and brother-in-law Fred Cavers. Kazuko will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her father Kakusaburo Shitara, mother Ishi Shitara, brother-in-law Lloyd Hartnett, and sister-in-law Rose Hartnett.

Kazuko was born and raised in Maebashi City, Gunma Ken, Japan. After the war, Kazuko worked for the US Army in Japan, where she met her husband Arnold, an Aerial Supply specialist and Paratrooper. They married in 1962 in Zama-Machi, Kanagawa-Ken, Japan. They came to Canada in 1962 and settled in Merriton where they raised a family together. Kazuko worked as a dressmaker for many years as well as The North Pole Souvenir Store in Niagara Falls before retiring.

A funeral service will take place in Fonthill on Wednesday, November 26th.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to Heart and Stroke or the charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated by her family.

Beloved husband of Lucia (nee Temprile) for 54 years. Loved father of Tony Muraca (Margaret), the late Joseph Muraca (Marisa) and Dennis Muraca (Sherri). Cherished grandfather of Dianna (Justin), Nicole (Kyle), Rachel (Jenz), Meagan and Ryan. Great-grandfather of Raya.

Carmen will also be missed by many sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital ICU and St. Joseph's Hospital for all of your care.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 135 Livingston Avenue, Grimsby, on Thursday, November 27th, at 11 a.m. Interment.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be sincerely appreciated by the family.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses at HWMH and CCAC for their care and compassion.

In keeping with Madeline’s wishes cremation has taken place and no service will be held. Arrangements out of Dunnville.
