NEWHOUSE, John 'Jack' Vernell Newhouse Obituary | Print |

NEWHOUSE, John 'Jack' Vernell -

Newhouse_JackAfter a brief illness, Jack passed away on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the age of 83 at Norfolk General Hospital.

Jack was born the son of Edna and Everett Newhouse and the brother to Howard (late Joan), late Urla (late Lorne) and Ada (Bill). Jack was the loving husband to his wife Phyllis (nee Marr) – having met each other 65 years ago. Jack and Phyllis were raised in Dunnville where Jack pursued the young beautiful Phyllis at the tender age of 17.

Jack worked as a Hoisting Engineer, and at Ontario Hydro, Nanticoke. His passion was to give back to his community: a member of the Masonic Lodge where he received his 50 year pin in 2014; and as a volunteer at the Dunn Fire Hall for 25 years, both as a charter member and Fire Chief. Jack had wonderful memories of dances at the Dunn Fire Hall, fishing and hunting with his friends and the small friendly community there.

Jack and Phyllis raised three wonderful children, late Bob (2006), Ruth of Ancaster, and Paul (Nicki) of Oakville. Jack was very proud of his four grandchildren Philip, Brooke (Andrew Rous), Jonathan, and Kate. Jack and Phyllis loved their community in Port Dover having moved there in 2002. They have made many strong friendships in Port Dover at Grace United Church and the Horticultural Society.

Special thank you for the friendship and support of Rev. Jeff Smith; and grateful for the care given by the doctors and nursing team at Norfolk General Hospital.

Visitation will take place at Grace United Church, 18 Chapman Street West, Port Dover, Ontario on Monday, from 7 - 9 p.m. and on Tuesday May 26th from 12 -1 p.m. followed by the celebration service of Jack’s life at 1 p.m.  Arrangements entrusted with Ballard Minor Funeral Home, 315 Broad Street, Dunville, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Grace United Church, Port Dover, or Trillium Foundation – Gift of Life (www.giftoflife.on.ca).
