He is predeceased by his deeply loved dogs Teddy and Sheba.

She was a longtime member and past president of the Polish Legion Lady’s Auxiliary and the head cook at the Polish Hall.

Bob Springer beloved husband, best friend and soul mate to Jodi for over 26 years. Proud and Devoted Father and Number 1 Fan of Tyler and Chad.

Beloved son of Louis and Theresa Springer and son-in-law of Robert and Beverly Hopper. Lovingly remembered by his brother John and his wife Stephanie. Loving uncle to Heidi and Lucas. Sadly missed by his brother-in-law James Hopper and his wife Libby and daughter Alyssa.

Fondly remembered by his aunts, uncles and cousin in Ontario and Germany. Missed by his faithful companion and Lap Buddy "Oreo."

Bob was synonymous with sports in Dunnville. He was a natural athlete and excelled at Hockey and Soccer, playing for Championship teams with the Dunnville Terriers, Mudcats and Dunnville United Soccer Club.

Later Bob embraced a supportive role with the Jr. Mudcats scouting and encouraging talent to come to Dunnville and more so to stay in town for a good program. He will be remembered as a tireless volunteer at the Blueline Club and a Fiercely Vocal Fan in the stands.

Visitation to honour Bob’s life will be held at the Dunnville Memorial Arena Foyer on Friday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm. Parish Prayers at 1:45pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Church (corner of Pine and Alder Streets) Dunnville on Saturday, July 26th at 11:00 am. Interment.

Cherished grandmother of; Frances (Joel), Anthony (Jaclyn), Graziano (Kerry), Kristopher, Ashley (Zac), Ron, Ryan, Alexander (Sarah), Justis and Adrian (Ashley), and her great grandchildren; Nicholas, Jack, Evan, Tristin, Lucas and Marcus.

She will be sadly missed by her sister Diamante and brother-in-law Sestino Marotta of Welland, and their children Frank and Mario Marotta. Marietta will also be missed by her brother Vittoria Nero(Gina), sisters Amelia Cimino and Vincenza Stranges, all of Italy.

Predeceased by her brothers Antonio Nero (Maria), Giovanni Nero (Maria), Umberto Nero (Pina) all of Italy, and sisters Raffaelina Marotta of Australia, Giovannina Vaccaro of Argentina, and infant sister Ida Nero of Italy. Marietta is survived by many nieces, nephews, family and friends throughout Canada, Italy, Australia and Argentina.

Born in Conflenti, Calabria, Italy on April 17, 1925, Marietta had resided in Welland since 1953, when she arrived in Canada, from Italy, with her two young children to join her husband Antonio.

A funeral mass will be held in the Parish Community of St. Kevin, Welland on Saturday, July 26th at 10:00 am. Rite of Committal will follow at Fonthill.

Cherished great grandma of Kirkland and Jaxen Bergeron, Kohen and Ryker Bergeron, Brianne and Janelle Graves, Alice Rous, Zelda and Melina Brignone and Ellis Armstrong.

She was predeceased by her parents and 7 brothers and sisters. Surviving are 3 sisters-in-law, Paula VanLeur, Annie and Elly VanSterkenburg and many nieces and nephews, all in Holland.

Mom and Dad spent many years on the family farm on Schisler Road and for the past 3 years she was a resident of Plymouth Cordage Retirement Home. She was an avid sewer in early years and she spent many hours knitting for the “Guardian Angels” and all of her great grandchildren will be in possession of one of her beautiful blankets.

The Liturgy of The Word will be held in Welland on Friday July 25th, officiated by Father Joe Ingrao. Rite of Committal to follow.

Jean-Claudé worked as a south plant inspector at Atlas Steels for 39 years.

With courage and strength, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family at home in Lowbanks on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at the age of 70.

Survived and sadly missed by his loving wife of almost 50 years Carol (Hiles); children Sherri Gray, Tammy Andrews (George), Brenda (Rodger) Hill, Michael (Tami), son-in-law Campbell Andrews; and grandchildren Melissa, Sarah, Lauren, Kyle, Matthew, and Mackenzi. Also survived by siblings George (Rena) Gray and Norma Reece, and many nieces and nephews.

Jim served as a firefighter for 45 years, most recently with Haldimand County. He stayed active with the fire department until his retirement, mentoring younger firefighters and assisting in any way possible.

Special thank you to Dr. Bernard, the nurses and staff at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, the C.C.A.C., V.O.N., C.B.I., and the firefighters from station no. 7, for their wonderful and excellent care.

Jim passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines General Hospital, Fourth Ave. site, after a brave but brief battle against cancer.

Proud grandfather to Abigale and Jordan White, children of Martha White (nee Gadd) and former husband David White. Also, Zachary Gadd- was here with Grampa from his home in Alberta, son of Allan and Theresa Gadd. Also survived by son Paul Gadd and former wife Lorna Mae Gadd of St. Catharines. Niece Dianne Bartlett and nephew Steven Bartlett of Belleville, Ontario. Jim's mother Salomia (Sally) Gadd (97) lives at West Park Home on Pelham Rd. in St. Catharines.

Predeceased by his father James R. Gadd and only sibling, younger sister Joanne (nee Gadd), just two years ago. Deeply missed by his wife Winnifred Ruf-Gadd who shared his love for 'happy music'.

Survived by his loving wife Mary (nee Breach) of 61 years, and his children Carol (Dale) Crosbie, Shelley (Mike) Sorley & predeceased by his infant daughter Sharon Louise (1968).  Beloved grandfather to Brent and Devin Crosbie, & Chris and Alex Sorley.

Also survived by his siblings Irene (the late Allan) Matheson, the late Gilbert (Serena) Wintle, Alice (the late Galen) Vance, Ansel (Marge) Wintle, Ernest (the late Phyllis) Wintle, Gerry (the late Betty) Wintle, Norman (Barbara) Wintle, Edward (Phyllis) Wintle.

Bernard retired from Nabisco after 32 years and was an avid gardener who loved roses and had a passion for fishing & wildlife. He enjoyed playing cribbage & euchre at the Coronation Centre, the Boat House, the Lions Happy Hour & the Knights of Columbus Hall.

The family will receive visitors at HETHERINGTON & DEANS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 5176 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls on Tuesday, July 22nd from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm.

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Chapel on Wednesday, July 23rd at 11 am with cremation to follow. Interment at Lundy's Lane Cemetery to be held at a later date.

Donations to the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Dear sister of Diane Townsend (Steve) and sister-in-law of Janice Long (Robert), Ava Chamberlain, Frank Copping (Cathy) and Stanley Copping (Kathy). Missed also by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Thelma and Howard Murray and brother Wayne Murray.

Special thanks to Dr. Deegan and the nurses and staff on B and C Wards at WLMH and Dr. Marshall and the staff at McNally House for making Sharon as comfortable as possible. Also, thanks to the Women's Auxiliary at Grimsby Legion Branch 127 for all of your help.

Passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Welland Hospital in his 83rd year.

Loving husband of 57 years to Mary Hanuska. Dear father of Dennis Hanuska (Denise) and the late David Hanuska (1996).

Sadly missed by his brothers Joseph (Susan), Steve (late Elizabeth), Edward (Judy) and many nieces and nephews.

Alex is predeceased by his parents Steve and Anna Hanuska.

Alex worked at INCO for 43 years until his retirement. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses many years ago and had a passion for gardening and country living.

The funeral service will be held in Port Colborne on Tuesday, July 22nd. Interment will follow in Wainfleet, Ontario.

Memorial donations may be made to Watchtower or to a charity of one’s choice.

Hildebrand_GeorgeIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. George Earl Hildebrand, at the St. Catharines Hospital on Friday, July 18, 2014 at the age of 89.

Beloved husband of 53 years to the late Nellie (Zanni) Hildebrand (2000). Loving father of Fran Hildebrand, Greg (Paddi) Hildebrand, Cathie (Roben) Severy, Bert (Barb) Hildebrand, Larry (Judi) Hildebrand, Anne Hildebrand (Peter Turcaj) and Theresa (Rob) Donelson.

Papa will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Helen and sister-in-law Dot.

Predeceased by parents Earl and Marguerite (Cole) Hildebrand, brother Bert, sisters Anna and Marie and brothers-in-law Chuck, Bernie and Pat.

Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, George was a respected Optometrist in Thorold where he practiced for over 40 years. He was a graduate of the University of Toronto following WWII, during which he served as a wireless operator and decoder. He was an avid golfer, scoring three holes-in-one during his lifetime and was a member of the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club for 48 years.

A special thank you to Dr. Nagai for his exceptional care and to the staff of the NHS-St. Catharines Site (Dialysis Unit). Also, thank you to Stacey and staff of Harmony Transport, Fran from CCAC, Joe from Hospice Niagara and the volunteers at Meals On Wheels.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 21 Queen St. S., Thorold on Wednesday at 10 a.m. The Rite of Committal to follow in St. Catharines.

With heavy hearts we say goodbye to Mark, who lost his courageous battle with cancer at home surrounded by his loving family.

Mark leaves behind his best friend and loving wife Cindy (nee Walker) and his three children Brian, Jeff, and Kayla.

Mark also leaves behind his parents Morris and Yvonne, sisters Laurie (Ron, recently deceased) and Kimberly (Dan), mother-in-law Betty Walker and sister-in-law Shelley (Dean).  Favourite uncle to Cody, Kyle, Lucas, Jake, Nicole, Kelsey and Ben.

How fortunate we all are to have had such an amazing man in our lives. We will not be the same without him. Mark was a mentor and inspiration to many and friend to all.

Mark started as a volunteer firefighter in Ancaster in 1981 and became a full time firefighter with Hamilton Fire Department in 1986. He moved to a full time position with the Ancaster Fire Department in 1988 that began his career path as an officer, eventually becoming Fire Chief in 1998.

Mark became the Deputy Fire Chief with the Burlington Fire Department where he remained until December 2007.  In January of 2008, he became the St. Catharines' Fire Chief. Mark also served as a Director within the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs until his sudden passing.

During his career, Mark was instrumental in leading many initiatives and changes. Some of these included pumper shuttle accreditation, defibrillator implementation in recreational facilities, emergency preparedness planning, while consistently applying his talent to foster and build relationships.

Being a firefighter was more than a job to Mark, it was his passion, along with boating and happy hour at home or on the dock with family and friends at the family lake house.

Many thanks to Dr. Antoniuk, CCAC, "nurse Shelley" and homecare nurse Joanne Norwood. We would also like to thank all those who supported the family through this difficult time.

The family will receive visitors, family and friends at the Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home, Ancaster on Monday, July 21st from 6 - 9pm, and on Tuesday, July 22nd from 1 - 4 pm  &  6 - 9 pm .

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd at 1 p.m. at the Ancaster Fairgrounds "Marritt Hall," located at 630 Trinity Rd. S., at Hwy 52 and Hwy 2.

(July 14, 1938 - July 18, 2014)

Of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Born in Dover, New Jersey.

A lover of music, Peggy sang in the Niagara Symphony Chorus and other choruses throughout her life. Peggy was an avid golf player, liked to play mahjong with her friends, and designed beaded jewelry.

She also was a volunteer at the Humane Society, Niagara on the Lake Hospital, and at the Chateau Gardens, where she played piano for the residents. Peggy brought joy and laughter to her family, friends, and all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, James Miller; her children, Robert Kuhns and Linda Thorslund; grandchildren Zachary Thorslund and Brenna Thorslund; and stepsons, Chris Miller, David Miller, Peter Miller, and James Miller.

A special thank you to all the staff at Hospice Niagara for their compassionate care and support given to Peggy.

In accordance with Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial Visitation will be held in St. Catharines on Saturday, July 26th. An interment will be held at a later date in New Jersey.

(1950 - 2014)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Pryde Newberry on Friday, July 18, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Beloved husband of the late Jeanne (nee Bertrand) Newberry (2004) for 33 years. He was also predeceased by an infant daughter, Jennifer (1977).

Devoted father of Michelle and her partner Dwayne Andrus and his children Sara and Mitchell, Ted and daughter-in-law Dawn. Papa to his beloved Jack, and Molly his four legged companion. He is survived by his six sisters. Holding him close to their hearts are several family members and friends.

John was born in Bryson, QC on July 20th, 1950 to the late Ted (1996) and Hilda (1972) Newberry. He attended St. Mary’s Teacher's College in Chapeau, QC. He began his teaching career in Montreal in 1967 and in 1969 moved to St. Catharines, ON to embark upon his 30-year career with the Lincoln County Separate School Board. He taught at St. Joseph on Chestnut St., St. James, Assumption, St. Denis, St. Theresa and St. Peter Elementary Schools.

He coached several sports teams and ran board-wide Cross Country meets. John also coached several hockey and baseball teams within St. Catharines. John retired in 1999 and started a lawn cutting business that lasted 7 years.

His love for students, friends and family will never be forgotten. All who knew him also knew of his great love for the Montreal Canadiens.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the countless people who have supported us through his journey. Dr. Brian Kerley and all the amazing staff and volunteers at Hospice Niagara, Dr. Alison Suk, CCAC and the nursing and PSW staff who loving came into our home.

Cremation has taken place.  Arrangements out of St. Catharines. There will be a celebration of John's life at Coppola’s Ristorante and Banquet Facility, 203 Carlton St. on Monday, July 28th at 10:30 a.m., friends are invited for 10 a.m.

John has asked that all who attend his celebrations to please come wearing their hockey apparel to represent the sport he loved so much.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to Hospice Niagara.

Eleven days before her 90th birthday, beloved wife of the late Robert Reid (2012).

Loving mother of Charlotte Heighway (Charles), much loved "Gram" of Sheila Petrie (Rich) of Niagara Falls and Shannon Thomson (Scott) of Calgary. Also survived by seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 24th, 2014 at Ridgeway Memorial Cemetery, at 11 a.m., followed by a gathering of friends and family at the Heighway residence.
