Peacefully passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 76.

Laura will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 58 years, Charles. Loving Mother of Dorothy (Larry), Chuck (Donna), Ralph (Grace). Proud Nana of 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Laura will also be missed by her sisters, brothers, extended family and by her furry companions, Angel and Maggie.

Laura is resting at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines, Ontario. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 29th from 2-4 p.m. with Words of Remembrances shared at 3:45 p.m. Cremation to follow.

Predeceased by her loving husband John (2001), cherished daughter Nancy and sister June.

Much loved mother of Robert (Carol Fairbrother), Shawn (Myra), Jonathan (Reva) and Sheldon (Onyx Uriarte), and devoted Granny of Lara (Kyle) Widdifield, Jesse, Benjamin, Cecilia, Jackson, Drew and Silas. Great Granny to Phoenix and Tanis. Dawn is also survived by sister Patsy (the late Verne).

Dawn's family will receive visitors at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines, Ontario on Wednesday, April 29th from 7 - 9 pm. In accordance with her wishes, cremation will follow, with a graveside inurnment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery on Friday, May 8th at 1pm.

It is with great sadness that Steve “Rick” Tarczy passed away at the Greater Niagara General Hospital Sunday April 26, 2015, with his loving wife at his side.

Beloved husband of Tara (Diplock) for 32 years. Loving father of Tyler and Toni.

Cherished son of Anna Tarczy and the late Steve Tarczy. Son in law of Jack and Jeannette Diplock. Dear brother of Frank (Luise) and Sue (Tim) Whittle. Brother in law of Darlene (Keith), Rae Anne (Grant), Chris (Natalie). He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Rick’s passion was restoring his 1963 V.W.Bug. He was an employee of Washington Mills for over 30 years where many friendships were made.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Al-Baldawi, Dr. Girard and to our team of nurses from C and Trillium Wards for the outstanding, compassionate care given to Rick during his hospital stay, and to dear friends for your many acts of kindness during this dark journey. There are too many to mention, but you know who you are, we are forever grateful. Rick will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Family will receive friends and family at Morse & Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main St., Niagara Falls, Ontario on Thursday, April 30th from 2 – 7 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Rick’s life will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 1st at 1 pm followed by a private family burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in Rick’s memory to Daval Hospice would be appreciated by the family.

Passed away at the Leisureworld Long Term Care Facility, following a brief illness, on Sunday, April 26th, 2015 at the age of 95.

Predeceased by Gerard, her beloved husband of 63 years, and survived by her three sons Roger, Paul and Mark, granddaughters Anne-Michelle and Lisa-Marie Tessier, great-granddaughter Kathleen, and several generations of nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Tessier ("Aunt Betty" to most) graduated from the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 and was an active and dedicated Registered Nurse for almost 40 years, 22 of which were spent at the Niagara Peninsula Sanitarium, which was later renamed the Shaver Hospital. She loved nursing almost as much as she loved her family. She had a gift for knowing just where it hurt and what to do to make it better.

As she requested, Elizabeth has been cremated. The family will receive friends at the Haine Funeral Home & Chapel, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold, Ontario on Thursday, April 30th from 10:00 - 12:00 noon. A celebration of her lifetime of loving and caring for others will begin at 12:00 noon. Interment with her husband and family will be held at a later date.

Beloved daughter of Marlene and the Late John Willick and daughter in law of the late Joan and Gord Rubel. She will forever be remembered by her sisters Wendy (Dale) Schaeffer and Glenda (Murray) Potts. Sadly missed by her brothers-in-law Jim (Sandra) and Todd (Barb) and her many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family and wonderful friends.

The family expresses its heartfelt appreciation to Elizabeth her home care nurse and to Dr. Scher, Dr. Dargavel and the wonderful team of professionals at Douglas Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit who provided such comfort and care.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 29th from 2 - 4 & 6 - 9pm at Williams Funeral Services, 722 Ridge Rd. N., Ridgeway, Ontario.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 am from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Snyder. A reception will follow.

Beloved wife of John for 31 years, and loving and proud mother of Lesley.

Gone from this world to be with the Lord, reunited with her father John Herbert, mother Agnes, sister Bonnie and brother Don. She will be sadly missed by sisters Joyce (Mike) of Fonthill and Linda (Jack) of Bethel. Sister-in-law to Hugh (Jean) of Wainfleet and Ed (Judy) of Burlington. Forever in the hearts of many cousins, nieces and nephews and cherished friends.

Darlene's passions in life were teaching, golfing and most of all her family. Her passion for teaching at St. Leonard’s in Dunnville inspired many students to further their education and follow their dreams. While not teaching she was an avid member at Sparrow Lakes Golf Course where she was rewarded with a "Hole in one."

Darlene was the "Cornerstone" of our family whom we always turned to for strength and wisdom, now we will only need to look upward to get our continued support.

Friends will be received at Ballard Minor funeral home, 315 Broad St. E., Dunnville, Ontario on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

A Memorial service will be held at Winger Church of Christ (Disciples), Highway 3, in Wainfleet, Ontario on Thursday, April 30th at 11:00 a.m. followed by Urn Internment in Wainfleet.

Kives_Paul(September 11, 1920 – April 25, 2015) - Paul Kives of Welland in his 95th year passed away peacefully with his daughter at his side at the Hotel Dieu Shaver in St. Catharines.

Born in Parad, Hungary, Paul came to Canada in 1929 and lived in the Windsor area until moving to Welland in 1939. Paul worked at Atlas Steel in Welland for 42 years, retiring in 1981. He served in WWII as Sgt. Paul Kives of the Brockville Rifles with two years of training in Canada and two years service in Jamaica.

Paul was an active member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Welland. He and his wife Mary travelled extensively throughout Europe. He was an avid ball player and bowler for 50 years and enjoyed watching hockey, baseball and playing cards.

Beloved husband of the late Mary Kives of Welland. Loving father of Dianne Marshall of St. Catharines and the late Barbara Badger of Toronto. Brother to the late Margaret Banyai and brother-in-law of the late Steve Banyai both of Welland. Brother to sister Julia and brother-in-law Dennis Liska of London. Loving grandfather of Shana King of Atlanta, Georgia, Paul Marshall and his wife Michelle of Toronto and Kristy Badger of Toronto. Proud and loving great-grandfather of Avery and Oliver King of Atlanta, Georgia and Charley and Draper Marshall of Toronto.

Dear Uncle of Ron Banyai and his wife Flo of Milton, Leslie and his wife Kathy and their son Jesse of Welland, Brian Liska and Karen Thompson and her late husband Joseph all of Toronto. Predeceaed by his parents Pearl and Alexander Kives.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland, Ontario on Wednesday, April 29th at 3 p.m. with visitation two hours prior to service beginning at 1 p.m. Immediately following the service a reception will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 29 Bald Street, Welland.

Parker_FredAvid fisherman and family man, passed away suddenly surrounded by family at the Welland Hospital on Saturday, April 25, 2015, in his 75th year.

Cherished father of Debbie Annett (Rick), Tim (Kim), grandfather to Shawn, Matthew, Tyler, Logan and Corrynn. Great Grandfather to Phoenix, Harlow, Payson and Kayden. Beloved brother to Bob (Dianne) Parker, Barb Alward, and Sandra (Keith) Monroe.

His long term companion and friend Joanne Norton was a queen for many years to keep Dad busy and motivated. Fred was always attending his grandchildren's sporting events and loved every minute of it.

After his long career at John Deere Welland Works, he retired with 43 years of service and continued to work around the house and helped anyone who needed a helping hand. His very early morning coffee at the "coffee house" was a ritual so he could stay in tune with his family.

Fred was predeceased by his son Patrick, his parents Jack and Esther, his sister Sue, brother John, his nephew Bobby, and brother-in-law Wayne Alward. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews and numerous family and friends. His yearly trip to Walt Disney World and summer trip for the family fishing week at the cottage will never be forgotten by all who attended.

The family will receive friends at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland, Ontario on Monday, April 27th from 6 - 8 p.m. and Tuesday, April 28th from 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the Cudney Chapel on Wednesday, April 29th at 11 a.m. Rite of Committal to follow.

Devoted husband of the late Eleanor (nee Burton) (2007) for 61 years.

Loving father of Pamela Newhouse. Cherished grandfather of Jordan, Kevin and Jill Newhouse and great-grandfather of Jade. Dear brother of the late Albert, Everett and Harold Pifher. Brother-in-law of Marie and Florence Pifher.

Born in Paris, Ontario in 1921, Ken joined The Royal Rifles of Canada at age 18. He stationed in Niagara Falls at the beginning of the war where he met his future wife Eleanor. He then was deployed to defend Hong Kong in 1941, where he became a prisoner of the Japanese on Christmas day of that year. He endured very harsh treatment and starvation for three years and eight months as a POW and then returned home to marry Eleanor.

Ken spent many years as an employee of Ontario Hydro and as a member of the Hong Kong Veterans Association. Together, he and Eleanor ran an antique shop for 20 years before retiring. Above all, Ken loved his family, woodworking, holidays in Florida, coffee with his "cronies" and let's not forget - kitties.

Visitation at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, Grimsby, Ontario (905-945-2755) on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., where Funeral Service will take place Thursday, April 30th, at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow with interment Paris at a late date.

He is survived by his loving wife Lorna, and daughters Sandra and Candace Porter. His sister Heather (Joe) Caruso, and brother Rod (Kim) Porter of Nova Scotia. Loving uncle of Vanessa, Joey, Briar, Matthew, Bethaney, and Jared.

Terry belonged to the Royal Canadian Regiment in London, Ontario in 1975. Following that he was part of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, teaching army cadets for a short time. He later retired from GM, and loved camping, long drives and trips to the beach with his family in Southampton.

The family will receive friends at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines, Ontario (905-684-6346), on Thursday, April 30th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, with Funeral Service held in the chapel on Friday, May 1st at 11 am. Scalzo_John(December 10, 1956 – April 25, 2015) - Passed away after a courageous kidney and liver transplant recovery effort.

Predeceased by his parents Grace (Giglioti) Scalzo (1989) and Antonio Scalzo (1997).

Cherished and unconditional loving soul mate of 25 years to Cheryl (Gagnon) Scalzo, incredible and dedicated father to Natalie and Michele (Robert) and loving brother to Teresa Scalzo. Son-in-law of John and Leeta Gagnon and brother-in-law to Gail Gagnon and her daughters Ashely and Jennifer (Pat).

Cherished nephew of Elvira Notaro and family, the late Aurora (Paul Rocca) and family, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins from Montreal.

John was a dedicated paramedic for 30 years and will be sorely missed by his many brothers and sisters from Niagara EMS and the emergency services family. He was first and foremost a dedicated family man who loved to travel, watch the Montreal Canadiens, walk his beloved German Shepherd, Nash (2012) and listen to his favourite classic rock music, especially Pink Floyd and Gordon Lightfoot.

John’s family will welcome relatives and friends at the Armstrong Funeral Home & Chapel, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne, Ontario on Friday, May 1st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers in the funeral home at 2:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Bosco Church, 375 Main Street West, Port Colborne. Rite of committal will follow in Welland.

Loving and devoted husband to Lynne Gray (Craumer). Wonderful father to Melissa (Ali) and Bryan. Beloved papa to Amber-Lyn. He will also be missed by his sister Linda and brother Martin.

Kind, gentle and strong, Brian will be fondly remembered by so many family & friends. He was a blessing to us all and will live on in our hearts forever.

The music he created with the Dragon Ritual Drummers will echo throughout the universe and comfort those he has left behind.

His wish for cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 23rd at 3369 Wiltshire Blvd., Niagara Falls, ONtario at 1 o'clock, with potluck feast to follow.

McCAFFERY, Maureen -

McCaffery_MaureenMaureen passed away among family at the Welland County General Hospital on Friday, April 24, 2015 in her 81st year.

Beloved wife of the late Claire McCaffery (2006).

Cherished mother of Patricia Simon (Dennis), great grandmother of Christopher Keating, sister of Yvonne Clark, sister-in-law of Mary Reece, brother-in-law of Wayne McCaffery (Aline). Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Roy and Erie Alport, her in-laws Clarence and Evelyn McCaffery, grandson Chad Simon, sister-in-law Joan McCaffery and brother-in-law Don Clark.

Friends will be received at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence St., Port Colborne, Ontario on Monday, April 27th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 28th in the Davidson Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Steven Davis officiating. Burial will follow.
