He will be greatly missed by special friends Marlene & Gerry and Pat & Bill "Hoss". Dear brother of Wayne (Pat) and Warren (Kendra), and Marlene Gearing, and survived by many nieces and nephews.

Wally was retired from General Motors after many years of service and was an avid fisherman.

As per Wally's wishes, there will be no service and cremation has taken place. Arrangements out of St. Catharines.

Archie passed away at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014 at the age of 79.

Predeceased by his parents Douglas and Jennie McIntyre. Survived by his siblings Ronald, R. Carl, Leon, Evelyn Hart and Dorothy O'Brien.

Predeceased by siblings Jimmy, Connie Lever, Doug and Betty.

He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews and his extended family.

Archie called Eastwood Manor in Crystal Beach Home for a number of years and after leaving the compassion and professional care found there, was fortunate to find caregivers Wanda and Joe who allowed Archie to continue to live with dignity and pride.

Memorial service will be held in Fort Erie on Friday, April 25th.  Interment to follow.

If so desired, donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

God gently gathered our beloved wife, mother and grandmother into His arms and took her home to rest. Alice died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Welland County General Hospital in her 84th year.

Dear wife of Allan Pietz and cherished mother of Cathy and Paul (deceased). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Christopher, Amanda and Allan Jr. Also survived by her daughter-in-law Elaine Cameron, her sister-in-laws Edith Rominger and Marilyn Prophet (Pekrul).

She was predeceased by her brother Bert, her parents Julius and Emilie Pekrul and her brother-in-law Harry Rominger.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday April 26th at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 200 Erie St., Port Colborne at 1:00 p.m., with visitation from 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow service.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Concordia Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Cherished grandfather of Patrick and Elizabeth Giles and River Rocchio.

Mr. Rocchio had worked for the Norton Company, retiring after more than 30 years of service. He was also a long time parishioner of Our Lady of the Scapular Church and a member of Club Italia.

Arrangements out of Niagara Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Scapular Church. The Rite of Committal will follow.

Thomson_HughIt is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh Hamilton Thomson on April 22, 2014 at the St. Catharines General Hospital, in his 84th year.

Husband of 59 years to Patricia, beloved father of Donna (Conrad), Stuart (Carrie) and Jackie. Much loved grandfather of Erin, Syndey, Davis and Markie.

Hugh was a devoted employee of the St. Catharines Standard for over 47 years before retiring in 1995, after which he spent 13 years as a crossing guard at Cushman and Rendale.

Hugh was a well-respected drummer playing with various dance and marching bands since the early 1950's. Music was a passion he very much loved and shared with his children and grandchildren, especially jazz.

And if he wasn't banging off a riff or telling a quick joke, you could find him enjoying his bacon and eggs; his favourite spot to eat them was the cabin porch at Allegany State Park. Hugh loved his time spent there with his family, as well as trips to Walt Disney World.

The family will receive friends at the   HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church St., St. Catharines (905-684-6346) on Friday, April 25th from 11:00 – 1:00 followed by a Service in the Chapel at 1:00 pm.

Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Douglas Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle.

Beloved wife of the late Norman Pring (2011).

Dearly loved mother of Rebecca (Scott), Jane (Brian) and the late Jeffrey (1980). Cherished grandmother of Katie (Scott), Matthew (Susan), Stephen and Brittany. Adored great grandmother of Brielle and Raya and step great grandmother to Sarah and Michael. Also survived by her extended family Valerie and Connie.

Predeceased by parents Alvina and Olive and Step mother Dot Woehl as well as brothers Glenn (Jacqueline) Woehl, Lloyd (Madge) Woehl, Kenneth Woehl and Raymond (Virgina) Spear.

Marion was a graduate of Hamilton General Hospital Registered Nursing Program of 1949. She enjoyed her career as a Registered Nurse at the Douglas Memorial Hospital, the Fort Erie Racetrack and Horton Chicago Bridge and Iron. Marion volunteered at the Douglas Memorial Hospital after her retirement for several years.

At Marion's Request, Private Family arrangements out of Fort Erie.

Much loved husband, father, father-in-law, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, and uncle, Orville passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 20th, 2014 in his 94th year.

He will be missed by his daughters Gail (Les) Vail and Pattie (Don) Webb, his grandchildren Trinda (Andy) Rensen, Tim (Samantha) Vail, Sarah (John) Webb, and Adam (Danielle) Webb, and great-grandchildren, Naomi Rensen, Abbi and Tanner Vail.

Orv had the gift of two great loves in his life and was predeceased by his much loved wives Pat (1966) and Thelma (1996).

Originally from the Chesley area, Orville moved to St. Catharines as a young man. He was an electrician with Steinhoff Electric and Kelsey-Hayes/Conroy for many years, retiring in 1984. He loved to 'putter about' the house - fixing things on his tool bench, play poker, watch hockey and spend time with his family. Dad, we will all miss our Saturday lunches together.

A heartfelt thanks from all of us to the caring staff at Garden City Manor.

Mike always professed that "Welland was the centre of the universe and that all good things came from Welland," and we couldn't agree more, for it was where our beloved Mike was born and raised.

And thanks to Mike for his endless stories, we are all now familiar with the engineering feat of the construction of the Welland Canal.

Mike will forever be remembered as the most gentle and generous man by his truly beloved best friend, wife and soul-mate Cara Howell. He is the cherished son of Ascenzia and the late Domenic Ettorre of Welland and big brother of Irma (Albert) Iannantuono of Fonthill. Dear Uncle Mike to Josh and Quinton Iannantuono whom he taught how to use hand tools and spoiled silly on birthdays and Christmas.

Beloved son-in-law of Catherine and the late Thomas Howell of Brampton. Brother-in-law, handyman and tech-support for Stephen (Laurie), Heather (John Luvison), Shanen (Martin Andrew), Alanna (Bob Yates) and Alice (Shawn Keba). Uncle to Brandon and Alyssa Howell and best uncle ever to Avery and Maggie Keba, whom he absolutely adored and doted upon. Mike is fondly remembered by the Ettorre, Di Sebastiano, Volpe, Villalta and Mc Enaney families.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 90 Griffith Street, Welland, on Saturday, April 26th at 10:00 a.m.

In recognition of the kindness of both the Oncology Clinic staff and volunteers at the Trillium Health Centre Queensway site, memorial donations to the Trillium Health Partners Foundation - Queensway Oncology Clinic, or to Heart House Hospice would be appreciated.

Predeceased by his parents Laval and Gabrielle Lemieux.

John had worked as a heavy equipment operator for Walker Industries, retiring after 37 years of service. John was active in the community having coached hockey at the novice, peewee and intermediate levels. He was also a sports convenor for the French Federation of Ontario, Past Grand-Knight of Columbus Council 925, a member of the Kinsmen Club of Canada, the Financial and Recording Secretary for the United Steelworkers Union-Local 4957 and a member of Emergency Measures Organization of Ontario.

He leaves behind many good friends to cherish his memory.

At John's request cremation has taken place. Arrangements out of Niagara Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Antoine de Padoue Church. The Rite of Committal will follow.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Joey of almost 40 years, his treasured children David and Angie and his precious grandson Jacob, who will miss his Papa.

He is survived by family in both Holland and Canada. His brother Neil (Teresa) and sisters Kathy (Nick), Sjaan (Ott), Nellie (Henny), Jos (Peter), Toos (Rinus), Mien and sister in laws Gre, Margaret, Betty, brother in law Jan and his mother in law Pearl Bibik. Bill will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He has gone to join his brothers and sisters who predeceased him. His younger brother Bert, his brothers Frank, Ted, Peter (Nellie), Nic, and his sisters Annie and Agaath.

Bill worked for 30 years for John Deere and after retirement spent 20 years enjoying the things he loved to do most, farming, camping, travelling to see Canada from coast to coast and spending time with his family. In the last few years Bill had been heavily involved in EquineAbility Therapeutic Riding Centre, building the farm into what it is today.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff of the ICU of Greater Niagara General Hospital for their care and compassion.

Merle was a longtime area poultry farmer and owner-operator of A.W. Topp & Sons Feed Mill Ltd. in Silverdale.  He was also a past Charter Member of Smithville & District Lions Club, a longtime member of Gainsborough Men's Bowling League, and member of the Elmgrove Hunt Club. Merle enjoyed his many memorable moments with his family and friends at the family cottage.

James was born on November 18, 1916 to Bertram and Mary (Conran) Anstey in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, one of nine children.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, Rose Anstey, his beloved son Kevin Anstey and his cherished grandchildren Andrew Anstey, Jerrod Anstey and Kayleigh Anstey. He also leaves behind his dear brother Patrick Anstey and numerous nieces and nephews.

James served in the British Royal Navy in World War II and following the war he embarked on a long career as an electrician. He was an avid hockey fan and played hockey with the Catholic Cadet Corps before the war. He enjoyed playing ball hockey with his son and grandchildren well into his 90's.

Arrangements out of Niagara Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Scapular Church. (There will be no prior visitation or reception). Cremation will follow the Mass with interment at a later date.

Donegan_GerryIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband and best friend on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Rapelje Lodge in his 84th year.

Survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Diane (nee Beaudoin) Donegan. Loving father of Therese Serson (Cec) and Paul (Veronica).

He is also survived by his sister Ida Crevier and grandchildren Sarah, Bobby, Mackenzie, Logan, Caleb and step granddaughter Katrina St. John. In sadness he will be greatly missed by nieces and nephews.

Dearly remembered by all his co-workers at Bailey Meter (Elsag Bailey) where Gerry composed and published a newsletter that was sent to all retirees, for over 25 years.

Predeceased by his parents Edward and Eva, sister Dorothy and her husband Ray Smith and niece Anne Van der Pennen.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements out of Welland.

Graduate of St. Michael's School of Nursing (1935); Lt. Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps WWII, Life Member Nursing Sisters of Canada.

On April 19th, 2014 in her 100th year.

Dearly loved daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret McQuarrie of Erin, Ontario.

Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Edward (Ted) Fisher, and her siblings Elva (Mossop), Vera, Ella, Mary (Cobban), Kenneth, Donald and Myrtle (Steen).

She is survived by her nieces Marylin (English), Barbara (Hebbes), nephews Tom Steen and Ken Steen, and their families.

Arrangements out of Niagara Falls. Family will receive friends at Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. followed by memorial service at 11:30 a.m.

As per Marjorie's wishes, memorial donations to Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church, 6136 Lundy's Lane, Niagara Falls ON L2G 1T1 would be appreciated.

Marjorie will be laid to rest at a later date.

Peacefully on Saturday, April 19th, 2014 at the St. Catharines Hospital in his 91st year.

Beloved husband of Lyla (Mortimer) for 42 years.  Loving father of Mary Lynn North, Janet (Glenn), David (Anna Maria), John (Carol), Frank (Diane) and late Bill (Cheryl) Bartlett.

Dear grandfather of seven and great grandfather of one.

Predeceased by three sisters Doris (Eldon) Anderson, Brenda (Fred) Neale, Ruth (Lloyd) Reinhart, two brothers Gordon (Sylvia) Goodwill, George (Jean) Goodwill.

Jack was a Veteran of WWII, serving with the 8th Canadian Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment.  He was a longtime member and Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17 (Thorold).  He retired from Ontario Paper Company as supervisor of maintenance.

Funeral Service will be held in Thorold on Wednesday, April 23rd. Interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17 Poppy Fund would be appreciated by the family.

Predeceased by her sister Iris Somerfield.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Peggy's life will be held in St. Catharines on Saturday, April 26th at 11:30 a.m.

Beloved husband of the late Beryl Isabel Pickersgill (2012).

Survived by his children Randy and Bob and their wives Beverly and Monica. Loving grandfather to Thomas, Sarah and Brad, great grandfather of Kaitlyn and Ashley.

Peter was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Royal Navy/Fleet Air Army.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Portal Village and the Welland and Port Colborne Hospitals.

By Peter’s request, there will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place.

Mr. Rezo is the beloved husband of Magdalena. Dear father of Josephine Starodub (Peter) of Kitchener and Sue Leroy (Darryl) of Aurora. Grandfather of Sarah and Matthew Leroy and Gabrielle and Michael Starodub.

Also survived by his brothers Veselko (Jelena) and Ante (Mirijana) all of Hamilton, his sisters Mara and Nevenka both of Croatia, sisters-in-law Ondina and Ruzica and several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Ivan and Joza Rezo, brothers Drago and Stanko and 2 infant sisters.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 123 King St. Port Colborne on Wednesday April 23rd at 1:30 p.m. Rite of Committal to follow.

Memorial donations may be made to Rapelje Lodge, the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Society..

Formerly of Port Colborne, passed away peacefully at Crescent Park Lodge in Fort Erie on Saturday, April 19, 2014 in her 95th year.

She was predeceased by her parents Theodore and Maria Wakyriak, an infant daughter Maria Sopinka, her husbands Theodore Sopinka and Paul Slipak Sr. and son-in-law Clifford G. Miller.

Loving mother of Orysia Sopinka-Chwaluk, Irene Olga Sopinka, Halyna M. Sopinka-Miller and Lesia Zenia Thompson, dear mother-in-law of Zenon Chwaluk and Jim Thompson, loving grandmother of Stepan, Myroslav and Roxolana Chwaluk, Katie, Amanda and Jesse Thompson.

She will be sadly missed by family in Canada and Ukraine, friends and foster children to whom she was 'Baba.'

Funeral service will be held in Port Colborne on Thursday, April 24th. Rite of Committal will follow.

Sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Spencer, the nurses and caring staff at Crescent Park Lodge for all of their kindness and care that was shown to Eva and her family.
