Albanese_GeorgeIt is with great sadness we announce the passing of George Michael Albanese. He passed away peacefully at the Port Colborne Hospital on Sunday, April 6, 2014 in his 94th year.

George was born on December 23, 1920 in Welland, Ontario to parents Angelina (Bambino) and Michael Albanese who immigrated in 1920 from San Giorgio Morgeto, Italy.

Beloved husband of Phyllis (nee Reveler). Cherished father of Michael Albanese (Anita), Ann Eastwood (Murray), Angela Smuck (Brian) and Thomas Albanese. Proud grandfather of Margaret, George, Alex, Sarah and Paul.

Dear brother of Domenic Albanese (Pauline) and brother-in-law of Lois Albanese. Lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Michael and Angelina Albanese and brother Dr. Angelo Albanese.

A consummate salesperson, George worked in the family grocery store "Albanese and Sons" on Hellems Avenue, followed by a four year stint as a travelling salesman but eventually settled into the real estate business for 10 years before retiring.

George was a proud resident of Welland, enjoyed spending time with his friends, the excitement of the horse races and the challenge of a high stakes card game. George was multilingual, an avid reader and could complete a complex crossword in record time. He was especially proud of his Italian-Canadian heritage and his large extended family.

George's life was distinguished by a relentless sense of humour, limitless loyalty and love of family.

As he told his grandchildren on March 23, 2014, "loyalty to family is everything."

A private service will be held. A celebration of life will be held at the Rex Hotel (Napoli Room), 346 King Street, Welland, on Saturday, April 12th at 12 noon.

Donations in memory of George to the Welland Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Csanyi_JoeIt is with saddened hearts that the family of Joseph (Joe) Louis Csanyi Sr. announces the sudden passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather at the Welland Hospital I.C.U. on Sunday, April 6th, 2014 in his 87th year.

Joe was the beloved husband of Ethel (nee Soos) for 59 years and loving father of Ilona Yungblut and her husband Leonard, Michael and his wife Lynn, Steve and his wife Cécile, Joseph and Tracy and Paul.

Cherished grandfather of Jamie, Jason and his wife Angela, Lindsay, Steven, Megan and Lauren. Proud great grandfather of Devon and Jillian. He will be sadly missed by family friend Sandi and his many nieces, nephews and friends.

Joseph was the only son of the late Joseph and Ilona Csanyi. Joseph was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law Steve and Rose Kiss, Frank and Mary Varga, Tony and Elizabeth Lautner, Nick and Margaret Stadler, Andy and Helen Kristoff and Joseph and Alice Mitro.

Joseph was born in Ugod, Vespreme Megyi, Hungary on April 4, 1927 and came to Canada in 1929. He worked at Atlas Specialty Steels for 44 years. After his retirement, he enjoyed travelling, camping, boating and sports with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Hungary Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

Arrangements out of Welland. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 10th at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Hungary Roman Catholic Church. Rite of Committal to follow.

Donations in memory of Mr. Csanyi may be made to Our Lady of Hungary Church Memorial Fund or the Walker Family Cancer Centre.

Beloved wife of the late John (2008).

Dear mother of John (Courtney) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Donna Sattin (Tim) of Milton. Cherished grandmother of Scott, Joshua, Julianna and Evan.

Gloria was an active member of St. Saviour’s Anglican Church, Queenston. She was also a volunteer for over 50 years with the Canadian Cancer Society, she volunteered at Upper Canada Lodge and was the Past President of the St. Davids & District Lioness.

Family was Gloria’s world, especially her grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place.  Arrangements out of Niagara Falls, Ontario. A service to celebrate Gloria’s life will be held on Friday morning at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church, Queenston at 10:30 a.m.

For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to St. Saviour’s Anglican Church, Queenston, the Canadian Cancer Society or Upper Canada Lodge.

He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Gino was a dedicated teacher at Laura Secord Secondary School in St. Catharines and an avid jazz musician.

Funeral Mass has taken place at St. Joseph Church in Grimsby with interment at Stoney Creek.

Passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 5, 201 at the age of 78 at his home.

He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 59 years Eleanor (nee Schwandt). Proud father of Robin (Brian) McGunnigle and Suzanne Vaccaro. Extra proud POPS of Cole, Carly and Daniel.

Survived by siblings Joyce (Hank) Andrews, Neil (Geri), Brian and Warren (Joan); and sisters-in-law Marina (Vic) Flus and Charlotte Schwandt.

Predeceased by his parents Ray and Ina, and parents-in-law Gus and Agnes Schwandt.

He was best known behind the cash register at Harvey's; also owner of Old Lock One (Port Dalhousie) and Golden Griddle. Harold was an avid golfer at both St. Catharines Golf and Country Club and Beechwood where he enjoyed playing with his best friend Brian Antonson.

At Harold's request, cremation has taken place. Arrangements out of St. Catharines. Harold always loved a party so a celebration will be held at a later date at Beechwood Golf Club.

Passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines site of the Niagara Health System on Saturday, April 5, 2014. He was in his 95th year.

Glen was the much loved husband of the late Agnes (nee Campbell, August 22, 1917 – August 23, 1993) to whom he was married for 47 years.

He is survived by their three sons Robert Edgar (Kathy) of Niagara Falls, David Neil (Anne) of Toronto and Bryce Glen of St. Catharines. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, Scott (Cecilia) and Shannon (Jen and son Liam), Jennifer, D'Arcy and Andrew, and Maya and Fiona.

He was predeceased by his sister Betty Reason.

Glen was born on October 31, 1919 in Binscarth, Manitoba and was raised in Thamesford, Ontario. During WWII he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and he was a proud veteran. After the war he was employed by the Income Tax Department while he pursued a designation as a chartered accountant. He had a successful practice as a chartered accountant in St. Catharines for many years continuing past the age of 90.

He worked hard at his career, loved to travel to warm and sunny places, watch a Leafs hockey game and was ready to take a turn on the dance floor.

There will be a private family Funeral. If desired, memorial donations may be made in Glen's name to the Niagara Health System for palliative care programs.

Irene retired from Niagara College where she worked as a teacher & program coordinator for the bilingual secretarial program. Irene will be fondly remembered by her friends at Black Creek Leisure Home in Stevensville, ON & at Eagle Point Estates in Punta Gorda, Florida.

In keeping with Irene's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at St. Antoine de Padoue Roman Catholic Church, 4570 Portage Road, Niagara Falls on Friday, April 11th from 10:30-11:30 with a Memorial Mass beginning at 11:30am.

Cherished grandmother of Nicholas “Nicky” Torzsas Jr. and his wife Donna of Welland; Rachelle, Maria, Andonina, Germaine, and A. J. Roberto of Edison Alberta; Great grandmother to Ethan, Paige and Brennan all of Edison, Alberta.

Mrs. Roberto is survived by her sisters Giselle Latulippe (late Gilles), Jeannine Tryfiak (late John), Monique Hope (late Sam), Jack Lauzon (Lena), John Lauzon (Dale) and Colette Lee (late Frank); her brothers-in-law Jim Roberto (late Muriel) and Thomas Roberto “Tommy” (Shirley Eileen) and sister-in-law ShirleyAnne Roberto (late Wally).

Predeceased by her husband Anthony “Tony” (1990), parents Evariste and Germaine Lauzon, brothers Gary Lauzon and Guy Lauzon, sisters Huguette Jaworski (late Fred) and Therese Dussault (late Donald) and brothers-in-law John Aceti (late Rose) and Pasquale Roberto (late Raffaella). She will be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews.

Presentine was a well known soloist in the Welland area, she sang with many Church choirs and at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto. Pres was an avid reader, artist and worldwide traveller and was a member of the Welland Music and Arts Club. She was a secretary at Notre Dame in Welland and later worked for John Campion until her retirement.

Rev. Joesph Ingrao C.S.C will conduct her funeral service in Welland on Wednesday, April 9th.

Born in Banja Luka, the former Yugoslavia, and immigrated to Canada (Winnipeg) 1948.

Worked and raised his family in Welland, Ontario and lived a fiercely independent life on the lake at Wainfleet until the last.

Thanks to his neighbours Rick and Barb, Bob, Debbie and Billy and Jane who were always there for him.

Predeceased by his wife Josephine (1983) and survived by his three children, Ann Marie (David), Michael (Judy) and Cynthia (Anthony), grandchildren Stacey (Stephen), Stefanie (Ryan), Darcy, Kurt, Ryan, Lindsay (Brent) and his great grandchildren Ciara, Anika and Roan.

Also survived by his inherited family, Kelly, Steve, Maggie, Darcy, Colleen, Claire and Ella, Matthew, Elisha, Addison and Gywneth.

He died peacefully surrounded by family and friends. A special thank you to the staff of the Emergency Department and 6th Floor of the Welland Hospital for the wonderful care they provided.

Arrangements out of Welland. Typical of Joe, he requested nothing more than a party which will be held later this spring.

Passed away peacefully, in the early morning of April 4, 2014 at the St. Catharines General Hospital, in his 82nd year.

Beloved husband of Hilda. Loving father of Gerry (Nancy), Gabrielle, Linda (the late Tom 1999), Monica (George) and Frank. Proud grandpa of 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, with another one on the way. Gunter is also survived by his niece Ursula (Lothar).

Mr. Lohr was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Maxemuck_JeanIt is with heavy hearts that, we announce the passing of our mom at Northland Pointe Long Term Care Facility, on Friday April 4, 2014, in her 88th year. She finally succumbed to her illnesses.

Martin George of Port Colborne is the father of her children. Loving mother of Chris (Laurie) Therrien, Scott and Jeff Maxemuck.

She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Christopher, Jason, Lindsey (Blake) Dudgeon and Eric (Stephanie) Toffolo, and immediate family Liz and children Liam & Ashton.

Predeceased by her parents Ludwig & Ludwiga & by her brothers in Poland, and extended family throughout Canada, USA, and Poland.

Jean worked in forced labour camps with friends in the Magdeburg Germany until the end of World War II. After that, from 1945-49, Jean, along with friends, stayed in a Displaced Persons camp in Fallingbostel, Germany. She immigrated to Canada in June of 1949, and came over on a British steamship named Samaria. Her first job as a nanny in 1949, in Port Colborne, working for the Broadhurst family. She came alone, unable to speak the language and without a dollar in her pocket, married Martin and had three sons.

She helped support her family, working at various jobs at Lanark, Humberstone Shoe Factory, Crystal Beach Amusement Park, and lastly, Port Colborne Poultry, until she retired. Jean had a love of baseball, particularly her Blue Jays, and her three dogs Alek, Dylan and Cal.

Funeral service will be held in Port Colborne on Wednesday, April 9th with Fr. Michael Andrysiak officiating. Interment to follow.

Donations may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Welland SPCA would be appreciated by the family.

It is with great sadness that we announce that Nat passed away peacefully in hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Friday, April 4th, 2014 in his 62nd year with loving family at his bedside.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife and best friend Robin. Devoted father to Corrine Cowell (Scott), Bruce Barnard (Denise), Trisha Sutor and Shayna Sutor. Cherished grandpa to Page, David, Gavin and Carter.

Loving son of Barbara, predeceased by father Bert Stonehouse.

Beloved brother of Kathleen Dunn (Norman), Brenda Hart (William), Rebecca Anderson (Lorimer) and Kenneth Stonehouse (Bonnie). Greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
