GUELDENPFENNIG, Heinz Guenther Gueldenpfennig Obituary | Print |

GUELDENPFENNIG, Heinz Guenther -

Gueldenpfennig_HeinzOf Welland, passed away peacefully at home to finally be reunited with his beloved wife and sweetheart, Christel Gueldenpfennig (2006) on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the age of 99 years and two months.

Heinz grew up in Stettin, Germany and apprenticed as auto mechanic with Mercedes Benz attaining a master's level of proficiency. After the war, he lived in Berlin and finally immigrated with his wife and four children to Canada in 1957, settling down in Welland where he remained for the rest of his life, working at Volkswagen Motors for 25 years before retiring.

He was a great and loyal Father and Grandfather who loved his family very much. He loved to build things, including airplanes (numerous), vehicles (a dune buggy and race car) and doll houses. He had an amazing mind to the very end and a very strong but quiet will. He enjoyed good health all his life.

After his retirement, he further pursued his passion for mechanics by building and flying scaled model airplanes with the Rose City Flying Club. He also cared for the club's airfield, volunteering to cut and level the landing field that is now the Wal-Mart and Rona area of Woodlawn Rd. He reminded us of that every time we drove by.

He will be sadly missed by his loving children Karin Wood (Milt), Ingo (Erika) and Joerg.  He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Tony, Tom, Kevin, Danielle, Sonia, Werner and Nicole, great-grandchildren Derek and Rebecca.

Heinz was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, his wife Christel, and his daughter Pierette.

Cremation has taken place, but a celebration of his life will be arranged for Thursday, April 17th at the Royal Canadian Legion on Morningstar Dr. in Welland from 2 - 4 pm.

As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Welland Hospital.
