Arnold_WolfgangOn Monday, February 20, 2012, we lost Wolfgang, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.  He passed peacefully while surrounded by his family, in his 85th year.

Wolfgang approached everything in life with enthusiasm, and everyone he met with generosity and kindness.

He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Anne; his daughter, Uta Hoeschele and her husband Martin; and his two granddaughters, Marisa and Nina.

His passing will leave a big hole in their lives.

There will be a visitation for Wolfgang at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S. (just north of 401 at the lights) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22nd, followed by a private interment in Toronto.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg for their kind and compassionate care.

Beloved son of Rita (Beitz ) and the late Lloyd Hasson. Dearly missed brother of Pat, Shirley, Ruth, Mary-Lou, Caroline, and Kevin. Paul is predeceased by his sister Janet.

Paul will also be missed by many friends and extended family.

A memorial service will be held in Cobourg on Tuesday February 21st. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

Paul was a longtime employee of Kraft, retiring in his 35th year.

MAJER, Edmund Richard (WWII Veteran)

Ed was a Provost Marshall, British 11 Squadron and veteran of World War II, life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 178 of which he was a three-term Past President with five years of service to all branch committees, Past President and life member of the Newcastle Lions Club with 50 years of committee service, Past Lions Zone Chairman and a proud recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.

Ed was a past member and director of the United Way for Whitby, Oshawa and Clarington.

Ed was also recognized with a Provincial citation from the Province of Ontario for Volunteer service and Citizen of the year in 1984 by the former Town of Newcastle.

Ed is survived by his cherished wife Mona, and his loved children Gary Majer and his wife Andrea, Caroline and her husband Chris Tompkins and Marysia and her Partner George. Loving grandfather of Kim, Kate, Jill, Joanna, Shaun, Kristin and Davis. Loving great-grandfather of Jack, Grace and 1 expected great grandchild in March.

Friends may pay their respects at the  MORRIS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4 Division St., Bowmanville on Tuesday, February 21st from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral Service in the MORRIS CHAPEL on Wednesday, February 22nd at 11 a.m.

Cremation, and interment of cremated remains in St. George’s Cemetery.

Suddenly at the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg on Saturday, February 18th, 2012, Basil Robinson at 94 years of age. 

Beloved husband of Nola Robinson (nee Green). Dear father of Jim Robinson (Marie), Deb Benn, and Michael Robinson (Nora).  Cherished grandfather of Corey Watts (Jennifer Fenton), Carli Watts, Dallas Baker, Michael Robinson-Santana, Marlon Robinson-Santana, and great grandfather of Cole Watts. 

Basil played Semi-Pro Hockey for Belleville, coached Junior Hockey in Port Hope, coached youth hardball teams, and  was a member of the bowling league in Port Hope. He will be sadly missed by many friends and acquaintances from CAMECO, the Camborne community, Roseglen Village, and various Tim Hortons. 

A Memorial Service will be held at Camborne United Church on Thursday, February 23rd, at 2 pm. Visitation to be held at Camborne United Church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service, from 1 until 2 pm. Interment following the service.

In sadness the Semlitch family announce the passing into eternity on Friday, February 17,  2012, of their beloved patriarch at 83 years  of age, after a long brave struggle with mesothelioma. 

Bill was the much loved and admired husband of 59 years to Joyce (nee Dovell). Dad to Cathy (Chris Kersteman), Cindy (David Samis), Connie (Jim Lingard), Colleen (Terry Polley), John (Penny Hudson), Brian (Lori McGregor), Jim (Sarah Honey). Predeceased by son Charles.  Grandfather, Grandpa, Gramps, Grampy, Grandpappy & Poppa he answered them all to 17 grand Kids and 15 great grand Kids.   

In 1938 Bill came to Canada from war-torn Austria, a frightened little boy of 10, all alone, to join his parents & brother Walter and sister Margaret. At that time he bonded with his little six month old sister, a friendship that lasted a lifetime.  Margaret and her family will miss him as will close friends Bill & Lynne Meacock and Art & Karen Howard. 

Through the years Bill's personality won him many friends. The staff at the Golden Plough were so kind to him the past 5 months of his life. 

In keeping with Bill's wishes there will be no formal funeral. A gathering of family & friends to remember the good times will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Colborne on Thursday, February 23rd, from 3-6 pm with open tributes being offered at 4 pm. Informal dress please. Cremation with spring interment.

RYPSTRA, Foeke 'Fred' -

Rypstra_FoekeBorn October 21, 1928 in Cornjum, Friesland, The Netherlands.  Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, Foeke went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 16, 2012

Born and raised in Holland, Foeke served in the Royal Netherlands Marine Brigade in Indonesia from 1948-1949.  He was also a member of the Dutch Marine Veterans in Canada. 

Foeke immigrated to Canada in May 1952, where he lived in Newcastle until moving to the farm in Newtonville in 1956, where they stayed for the next 55 years.  In 2011, they moved to an apartment in Bowmanville. 

He worked for General Motors for 32 years, retiring in 1985. 

He married Grietje (Jenny) de Jong on October 24, 1953 and they were blessed with 4 sons.Survived by his wife Grietje (Jenny), 4 sons and their families, Ray and Julie, Terry and Elaine, Ed and Sylvia, Mark and Julie, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by one grandson Andrew in 1998, his parents, three sisters in Holland and one brother in Canada.

Visitation will be held at MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, Hwy 2 & Haines St. on Monday, February 20th from 10 – 11 am.  A Funeral Service will follow at 11 am.

Interment Bowmanville Cemetery.

After a brave journey with dementia, at Extendicare Cobourg, on the eve of her 79th birthday.

Norma will be dearly missed by husband Don and beloved children Corey and Sabrina. She is survived by siblings William, Beverley, Colleen and Brian.

Norma is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Edna and brother Terry. 

She enjoyed a distinguished 38-year career with Bell Canada and was a passionate humanitarian and world traveler. Norma dedicated much time and energy to social and political causes and was an active volunteer. As an advocate for the elderly and a lifelong supporter of women's rights, she was a trusted mentor and cherished friend to many.

A Celebration of Norma’s Life will be held in Cobourg on Wednesday, February 15th.

Grandmother of Amy, Paul, Jason, Andrew and Susan as well as several great-grandchildren Daniel, Dante, Madillyn, Dylan, Dustin, Damiem and Douglas-Drew.

Dear sister of Brian Sherry (Joan) of Port Hope.

Fondly remembered  by her extended family and many close friends.

Passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 87 years of age.

Eileen was the beloved mother of Hugh Manion (Erlinda) of Peterborough, Marjorie Davies (Roy Killingbeck) of Peterborough, Morris Manion (Cindy) of Ennismore and Dawn Gabourie (Jim) of Deep River.

Loving grandmother of Mike (Cindy), Rob, Laurie (Rick), Kim (Jim), Greg (Christine), Blair (Jen), Carly (Aaron), Angie (Pete), Tara (Scott) and Leigh (Marc). Great grandmother of 17.

Sister of the late Marjorie Gorman and Ralph Armstrong. Eileen will be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, colleagues and students.

Memorial Mass will be held at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains, 411 Reid Street, Peterborough on Tuesday, February 14th at 10:30 am. Father Luis Lapinid will officiate. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery to follow.

Dearly loved by wife Michal, brothers Carl (Patricia) and Ed (Sylvia), sisters-in-law Mary Ann and Terry (Joe), and brother-in-law Steve (Jess).

Predeceased by parents John and Elizabeth, brothers John (Madeline) and Ham, sister Elsie (Jack) and niece Leynne.  Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews.

Music was Bill's passion that began in his hometown of Hanover where he played trumpet with numerous community bands.  After moving to Cobourg in 1987, it was his involvement playing cornet with his band family 'The Concert Band of Cobourg' that gave Bill his greatest happiness and musical fulfilment.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Cobourg.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation in Bill's memory to The Salvation Army or The Concert Band of Cobourg would be appreciated by his family.
