JEWSON, Havelock Frederick -
Died peacefully in the arms of his family on Christmas Day 2012.
He and his wife Sheila (Doyle) Jewson were married on Saturday, October 6, 1956 and this year celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, October 6th.
Havelock was a great father to their four children, Randy (Caroline), Jennifer (Phillipe), Brian (Ginette) and Debbie who deceased from cancer at the age of 9 in 1977. He was the proud Poppa to his grandchildren, Rachel, Matt and Alex.
“Have” was born and raised in Grimsby, Ontario by his adoring parents Lilian and Fred Jewson.
His teaching career took him from at Toronto Collegiate to Cambridge (Galt), and then to Kitchener-Waterloo where he advanced from teacher to principal and finally became a Superintendent of Education for Waterloo County.
Havelock was a gentle man, who enjoyed making life better for all around him and in his chosen profession was able to improve the lives of children, parents and teachers. (He was known for his ad-lib songs). His family enjoyed great adventures together – many summers at their cottage home in Haliburton, holidays at their condo in Florida Keys, trips across Canada, from coast to coast as well as a sabbatical year in a motor home travelling through the British Isles, Europe and North America.
Fifteen cartons of school books were stored in the motorhome. Lessons were done and mailed back to the Department of Education, so that the children would move on with their friends when they returned. The children were 14, 12 ,10 and 7 at that time.
After his retirement, Havelock and his wife Sheila moved to a waterfront condo in Cobourg in 2004. Havelock and Sheila continued to visit countries around the world. His family feels so grateful for the loving care he received at the Community Nursing Home in Port Hope, from the staff and those residents who became his close friends. He suffered many strokes over the past four years.
Service arrangements entrusted with BENSON FUNERAL DIRECTORS, Millbrook.
Cremation has taken place and his ashes are with his best friend, Sheila. When the time comes he will be buried with his wife in the Doyle-Jewson family plot in St. James Catholic Cemetery overlooking the Bay of Quinte, near Belleville, Ontario.
A "Celebration of his life" will take place in the New Year in Kitchener-Waterloo and in Florida – dates and times to be confirmed.
