Dimma RubyDIMMA, Ruby (nee Cress) – Passed away peacefully on Friday, March 24th, 2017 at Princess Gardens where she had resided since 2004. She lived a wonderful life and was exactly one month shy of her 106th birthday.

Predeceased by her husband Robert E. Dimma (1963), daughter Mary Lou Cuff (1999) and son-in-law Robert Cuff (2001). Loving mother of Dr. John Dimma (Jill) of Oliver, BC.

Grandmother to Christine Clinton (Simon), Peter Cuff (Joanna), Katherine Cuff (James), Chris Dimma (Valeinna), Michael Dimma, Andrew Dimma (Christine) and Meghan Dimma and great-grandmother to 11 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of the late Norma Hodgson and the late Edna Staebler.

 

Hillyard JoanHILLYARD, Joan Mary (nee Laing) - Of Buckhorn, on Thursday March 23, 2017 at PRHC in her 83rd year.

Wife of the late Peter Hillyard and mother to Elaine Donaldson (Colin) of Lakefield, Lindsey Kelly (Shane) of New Zealand and the late Ian Hillyard of Buckhorn. Grandmother to Patrick and Sam Kelly of New Zealand.

Sister to Alistair Laing (Marilyn) of Apsley, Heather Laing of Apsley, Margaret Douthwait of England, Jean Hutchinson of Havelock and the late Don Laing of Lakehurst and Rod Laing of England.

Joan lived in Buckhorn for 41 years and was the owner of Homecrafts Gift and Needlework Shop for 20 years before retiring.

 

Riches PeggyRICHES, Gloria Carol 'Peggy' - A longtime resident of Peterborough, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Wednesday the 22nd of March, 2017 at Caressant Care Nursing Home, Marmora, Ontario.

Beloved wife of the late Arnold (2014) and loving mother of Wayne (Cathy), Carolann (John Down), Sandy (Reg Dooley) and the late Shelley (Adam Newman).

Grammie will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Caitlyn Riches (Dave Landry), Tyson Livingstone (Adrianna Jones), Connor Pringle and Tyler Dooley and predeceased by granddaughter Serena Pringle (1996). Great Grammie had the pleasure of knowing little Addison.

 

Wiles RossWILES, Roscoe Russell 'Ross' - Passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on March 22, 2017 in his 88th year.

He was born on March 5th, 1929 to Elizabeth and Ross Wiles.

Ross has been a resident of Lakefield since his early teens. He was best known as a “pillar” of the community and co-founded our local food bank with his predeceased wife and love of his life Dolores Wiles. They married after love at first sight. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage.

Smith Sister JeanSMITH, Sister Jean (Sister Jean Marie) CSJ - The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, announces the death of our dear Sister Jean Smith at Mount St. Joseph, Peterborough, on March 19th, 2017.

Sr. Jean was born in Peterborough in 1932. Sr. Jean is predeceased by her parents, the late Stella (McMurray) and Clifford Smith and by her brother Bill. She is survived by her brother Jim of Peterborough and sister-in-law Debbie Smith, nephews Jim Jr., John and Shane Smith and niece Holly Godward, and several great nieces and nephews.

She is lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community, the Sisters of St. Joseph, and the many friends she made during her years of service to others. Sister Jean entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peterborough in February, 1949. During her religious life she had a varied life of ministry. She began teaching in Ottawa and for 28 years taught in numerous schools in Ontario (Almonte, Port Hope, Lindsay, Campbellford and Peterborough as Principal at St. Pius).

Beloved wife of Bill Prentice for 49 years. Dear mother of Gail Pearce (Kirk) and William (Katherine). Loving grandmother of Aiden, Madeline, Malcolm, Ewan and Angus.

Avis was born in Kirkland, Scotland. Avis and Bill were married in March of 1968 and then moved to Canada a few weeks later. They settled in Toronto for four years, then moved to Cavan when they decided to start a family.

Mantha CarolMANTHA, Carol Ann (nee Folz) - It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that we announce the death of Carol Ann (nee Folz) Mantha. She died suddenly on Sunday, March 19th, 2017 at Centennial Place in Millbrook, Ontario in the presence of her daughter Bev in her 77th year.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerry, in 2003.

Carol was the much-loved mom of Bev Aitkenhead (John), Monica Forte (Nick), and Caroline Chartrand (Reg). She was the treasured Nanny of Micheal and Cailey Aitkenhead; Jenny, Mitch, and Diana Forte; and Brittany Mantha-Chartrand.

Dad had a long, successful, happy life.  In 1951 he was recruited by CGE and brought to Canada from his birthplace, England as a tool and die maker, retiring after 38 years as a Manufacturing Specialist in Nuclear Products.

Montgomery MontyMONTGOMERY, Keith Rodie 'Monty' - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Keith on Friday March 17, 2017 at Riverview Manor in Peterborough after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson disease.

Monty will be remembered by many as one of the most spectacular and colourful hockey players of his time. He began his Junior Hockey career with Lakefield in 1946 and over the ensuing years played with various hockey clubs throughout the area.

He was employed as a Heavy Machine Operator for many years with various companies in the area.

Loved and missed by his wife Jackie of Lakefield, his children Paul Montgomery (Nadia) of Mexico, John Montgomery (Jane) of Calgary and his step-daughter Judith Hamblin (Jim) of Selwyn. Grandfather of Marissa and Markie.

 

COLLINS, Audrey - Passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 17th, 2017 at the age of 64.

Beloved wife of Ken. Loving mother of Nicole Gosse (Dan) and step mom of Yvonne McColl (Scott), Shannon Anderson (Aaron) and Elaina Cosby (Mike). Cherished grannie Aud of 14.
