On Saturday, May 5th, 2012 in her 101th year at Markhaven Home for Seniors.
Beloved wife of the late Frank Petrie (1995). Loving mother of Bruce (Gaye), Eleanor White (Paul), the late Francis and the late Katherine.
Dear grandmother of Geoffrey (Carisa), Jennifer (Neil), Andrea and the late James. Proud great-grandma of Renée, Francesca, Bradley and Juliana.
Sadly missed by many dear neighbours, and friends, especially those from George St. United Church, as well as those from her life of music with the Women's Art Association and her community involvement with Frank.
Agnes filled her home with music and friends. She lived for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived her faith through her love of music, friends and helping others through volunteer work.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Applewood Manor, the staff and care-givers at Markhaven and those longtime friends who were close enough to visit and those who couldn't visit but kept in contact.
A Memorial Service will be held at George Street United Church, 534 George St. N., Peterborough on Thursday, May 10th at 11:00a.m.

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 4, 2012 at the age of 82 in Fergus, Ontario.
Beloved husband of 56 years to Evelyn (Dunn) of Peterborough, Ontario. Extraordinary father to Lynne (Scott) Langille, Laurie (Mike) Knox, Alan (Karen) Thomson and Scott (Mila) Thomson.
Much loved grandfather of Justin, Katelyn, Brandon, Tyler, Katie, Joshua, Kyle, Karlee, Jonathan, William, Robert, Rachel and Elizabeth. Proud great-grandfather to Abigail. Dear and fond brother to Robert (Jan) Thomson of Brampton, Ontario and late sisters Kay and Jean.
He was proud to have served his country in the Royal Canadian Air Force and his stories and memories from this time remained with him throughout his life.
Bill was an exceptionally kind man and remains adoringly remembered by all who knew him for his generous spirit. We will forever miss his humour, care and love.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held by his family, to honour the memory of our husband, father and friend on Thursday, May 10th in Fergus, Ontario.

TOYE, James -
Jim Toye died peacefully in his sleep, in his 90th year, at St. Peter’s Hospital on Maplewood Avenue in Hamilton on Friday, May 4, 2012.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Gladys, and his youngest son, Donald.
Born in Winnipeg, Jim grew up in the Beaches area of Toronto with his sisters and brothers: Peggy, Ray, Huey, Jack, Dora and Billy.
He served overseas in WWII, where he met Gladys. They were wed in the ruins of a London church and Jim was there to meet her when she arrived in Canada as a war bride.
Jim was very active as a baseball and hockey coach, and he never lost hope for the Maple Leafs. After retirement from the Becker Milk company, Jim settled in Peterborough, cheered for the Petes and enjoyed the company of his children, grandchildren and many friends on the shores of Lake Chemong.
His sons, Randall and Brent, his daughter Pamela, nine grandchildren, one great-grand-daughter and many nieces and nephews he adored survive him. Together, Jim and Glad made a home where everyone was welcome.
Jim’s final years were lived at St. Peter’s Hospital, where he was made comfortable and joyful by the wonderful care team on 3 West and by the visits of his beloved daughter-in-law, Wendy Moore.

WILLIAMSON, Denis -
On May 4, 2012, Deny passed away peacefully at the age of 88.
Dad was born in Loughborough, Leisc., GB, to Kate and Leonard Willamson. In 1946 he immigrated to Canada and in 1947 Dad married the love of his life, Wilma Evelyn (nee Grant) of Dunnville, Ont.
An officer in the RAF and RCAF, Dad was very proud of his 25+ year career in the military as pilot, flight instructor and later as PADO in 3Wing, Germany. Upon his retirement from the military, Dad worked as the Canadian representative on the World Tourism Council and later as the Park Superintendent of Jasper National Park. He was even spotted riding a horse (an English cowboy) and often hosted foreign dignitaries who visited the park.
Returning to Ontario, Dad lectured at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough and then became the sole proprietor of Seagull Enterprises through which he was a management consultant to many large corporations throughout Canada and the US.
Dad was an avid golfer, a collector of stamps, coins and any interesting documents or antiques that caught his fancy. He was very much a people person never missing the opportunity to liven up any group gathering. A generous and kind man, Dad will be missed by all who knew him.
Dad was predeceased by his cherished wife Wilma, his parents and his brother Roy of Loughborough, GB. Dad is survived by and will be greatly missed especially by his two daughters Pamela Ann Faunt of Courtenay, BC and Penny Dale Williamson of Jasper, AB; his grandchildren Geoffrey Denis Faunt of Calgary and Saara Melinda Bain (Alistair) of Grande Prairie, AB and by two very precious great grandchildren Dylan McKenna Bain and Griffin Alexander Stewart Bain also of Grande Prairie, AB.
Arrangements out of Lakefield, Ontario. Cremation has taken place. Dad is to be interred with Mom at a later date at a private family interment at Beechwood Cemetery, military cemetery, in Ottawa.

Peacefully with family by her side, at Fairhaven Long Term Care Home in Peterborough on Thursday, May 3, 2012, in her 87th year.
Shirley, beloved wife of 59 years to the late Donald Edwin Byers (d. December 17, 2007). Survived by two sons, Lawrence and Steven (Chris), four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Fondly remembered by her sister, Joyce Winans and her husband Bob of Niagara Falls, New York. Predeceased by her parents, Albert Jeffries and Pauline Sturgeon.
Shirley was born and raised in Peterborough and lived a long and active life. She was a long-term employee of Trent University (Peter Robinson College).
As per Shirley’s wishes, a private family funeral service was held in Peterborough on Tuesday, May 8th. Interment followed in Highland Park Cemetery.

Passed away quietly, at the age of 92, at PRHC on May 2, 2012.
Born in Belleville of U.E.L. parents, raised in Oshawa, she came to Peterborough with husband Arthur Long to build a new life. They joined George Street United Church and formed life-long friendships.
Gladys lovingly raised her 3 children Darlene (Hans Wittwer), Cheryl (Fred Doyle) and David (Holly Rule). Sister of the late Eva Hadley, and Donald &Walter Van der Voort.
Gladys is survived by four grandchildren: Craig, Stephanie, Valla and Erica, and two great-grandchildren: Skylar and Aurora. Gladys is also honorary step-great-great-grandmother "G.G." to a family of 37 Wittwers.
Her last few years were happily spent at Northminster Court and Applewood Manor. Our family wishes to thank Gladys' caregivers for their kindness in her last few years.
There will be no visitation, but friends are invited to meet with the family in Wright Hall of Northminster United Church (294 Sunset Blvd. Peterborough, K9H 5L3) on Thursday, May 10th from 10-11 am, prior to a Memorial Service at 11 am. Reception to follow.

BRIEN, Joseph Benoit 'Ben' -
(1915 - 2012)
At Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Monday, April 30th, 2012, in his 97th year.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons Marc of Stratford, ON., and Adrian of Victoria, B.C.; stepchildren JoEllen Brydon, Mount Pleasant, ON., and Bill Brydon, Toronto; beloved grandfather of Eva Fisher of Mount Pleasant and Georgia Fisher of Nanton, AB.
Ben was predeceased by his first wife, Lorna, in 1969 and by 11 brothers and sisters.
He served five years in World War II with the Royal Canadian Engineers, attached with the Canadian Armoured Fifth Division, and saw action in Italy and Holland.
Ben studied law at McGill University upon his return after the war, but chose a career in business. He taught a number of business courses at Sir Sandford Fleming College until his retirement in 1980.
He was recognized with a citizenship award for his ground-breaking work with the federal halfway house here, introducing Scott's Plains Recycling to Peterborough, one of the first cities in Ontario to use the famous blue box. In his later years, his greatest pleasure was the weekly lunch he had with his buddies from the college, Derek Scott and Hal Petterson.
Arrangements out of Peterborough. He will be cremated this week. Relatives and friends will gather Saturday 3 - 5 p.m. at the Women's Institute Hall in Mount Pleasant.

Son to James Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Bowers. Brother to Sarah Brown (Regina, 1921). Husband of 45 years to Joan Marie DeCarlo (November, 1999). Father to Cheryl, Terrie-Lee and Heather (Brian Sharpe). Breanne's own Poppa.
Born on Dundas Street in Toronto and raised in Campbellford, Jim joined the RCNVR in 1942 and served in HMCS Cobourg, HMCS Iroquois and HMCS New Glasgow. His wartime service included numerous trans-Atlantic convoy runs and three missions to Murmansk, Russia.
In 1946 Jim laid a wreath at the Peterborough Cenotaph in memory of naval comrades. He had the unprecedented honour of doing so for 65 consecutive years each Remembrance Day. Jim's death marks the passing of the last founding member of the Peterborough Naval Association. He organized the 1st and 25th national reunions of the Royal Canadian Naval Association and represented the PNA on numerous veterans affairs committees and at community events. An active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Jim painstakingly sifted through local naval records as his contribution to the Wall of Honour.
Throughout his 45 years at CGE, Jim was an active union supporter which reflected his respect for working men and women. A life member of the NDP, he spent endless hours screen painting election signs and monitoring finances. He was a school board trustee (Lily Lake) and a long-time goal judge for the Peterborough Petes and Lakers.
A member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church since 1954, he served on the Board of Managers and was an elder for many years. In 2009, Jim was recognized with a County of Peterborough Award for Volunteer and Community Service. Previously, he won the Smith Township Gold Blue Box.

Born in Toronto, Ontario. After battling lung cancer and side effects of radiation on the brain, a true warrior to the end at age 69.
Sadly missed by wife, Sherry McQuestion of Havelock, ON, daughters, Wendy and Sherry of Toronto, ON, sons, Daryl (Theresa) Box of Oshawa, ON, Scott (Jewel) Box of Oshawa, ON, Shawn McQuestion of Havelock, ON, Dylan Rokoss of Peterborough, ON, step-children, David Schueler of Brampton, ON, Sarah Schueler of Burlington, ON and Lisa Schueler of Mississauga, ON.
He leaves behind grandchildren: Sarah, Christopher, Michael, Britney, Liam, Nyla Jean, Amanda, Kaillee and Deryk. Great-grandchildren: Aiden, Hannah, Raiden, Claire.
Gerry was a lifetime member of BRO Niagara and raised thousands of dollars for Ride For Sight. He was a member of the Havelock Legion and was a Boy Scout leader in his earlier days. He later became a scuba-diver and joined the Search and Rescue team in the Fort Erie area as well as running an Alarm business.
In his lifetime, he took up trucking and later worked for Canada Coach Lines in Hamilton, ON. He moved out west and had his own tow trucking business in B.C. Later, he moved to Alberta and set up a mechanic shop. He finally settled in Havelock as he liked the Peterborough area and ran a Generator business until he got cancer.
His motto was: Live to Ride; Ride to Live. He lived, loved and laughed. He will be missed by all his family, friends and fellow bikers.
Special thanks to the Central East CCAC, the VON, Nightingale staff, Hospice, Dr. Gilles-Doyle and all who visited Gerry.
Visitation will take place at Northview Community Church, 1000 Fairbairn St., Peterborough, Ontario from 9am – 11am on Saturday, May 5th followed by a service at 11am and luncheon.
He will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Niagara Falls on Sunday, May 6th. The procession will leave for Niagara Falls on Sunday at 10am from KAYE FUNERAL HOME .

Wonderful wife, mother and friend, passed away April 25, 2012 in Peterborough ON in her 87th year.
Anke was born in Winschoten, Holland, May 25 1925 to the late Berend and Steintje Brink. Predeceased by husband Freeman Thomas Blake, daughter Christina, sisters Stieneke, Lini, Annie, and brother Evert.
Anke is survived by her loving husband Peter, children Lynda (Dave) George (Marion) Cynthia (Jim) and Robert (Brenda) son-in-law Alan, and the Cremers family.
Also survived by her sisters, Dini and Riek and her many nieces and nephews in Canada and Holland. Anke was a devoted Oma and great-grandmother.
Anke will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her great strength and her wit. She will be missed by all those who had the pleasure to know her.
We would like to thank the caring and devoted staff at Peterborough hospital, and step-daughters Audrey and Yvonne for their help at this difficult time.
