MULHOLLAND-TESAREK, Cathie Mulhollanf-Tesarek - Obituary | Print |

Mulholland_CathieCathie was born October 18, 1927 in Glasgow Scotland. She emigrated to Ontario in 1956. She had earlier given her husband Jim a ticket to Canada to check things out, and followed shortly to settle in Waterloo where she worked on the organizing committee to establish the new University of Waterloo.

By 1957, U o W was operational, so she worked for the new school as assistant to the Dean of what would quickly become a world-renowned Faculty of Mathematics. But Cathie & Jim wanted to own and operate their own business so they started Mulholland Construction, a home construction company where Jim built the homes and Cathie ran the business.

Following research they moved to Collingwood Ontario in 1968, a beautiful town on Georgian Bay that was in need of a trusted home construction firm. Their crowning achievement was the creation of School House Lane Mall in 1975, which remains a fixture in the downtown core to this day. This was not near enough to keep Cathie busy.

She raised two hockey-playing sons and quickly determined that the local minor hockey association was in need of help. She joined the executive committee and within 2 years became the first woman president of the Collingwood Minor Hockey Association, winning awards for her contributions to the local minor hockey community.

Her knowledge of home construction then led her into Real Estate. She had a desire to help people find that perfect home and achieved her Realtor license in 1985, quickly becoming one of the most trusted (and successful) realtors in the southern Georgian Bay area.

Jim passed away in 1989. Two years later, Cathie had one of her rare unsuccessful home sales, but a new deep friendship had begun. Cathie and that home owner, Fred Tesarek, decided to marry in 1992. They eventually sold the house that had brought them together and they retired to Qualicum Beach in 1993.

During retirement, Cathie was a tireless supporter of St. Columba, as an elder visiting those who couldn’t get to church or were struggling with life matters. She could always be found after Sunday service, serving tea and coffee with her never-ending smile. Cathie never met someone that she did not have an abiding interest in, to know their story and understand what was important to them.

We are the incredibly fortunate ones that got to know and love Cathie. She has now achieved her lifelong desire to meet her saviour. Let us be truly happy for her.

It is with great sadness that we let the community know that Cathie passed away peacefully, on Monday, May 18, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband Jim, parents Alex and Jean and sister Nan. Cathie will be lovingly remembered by her husband Fred, sons Peter and Ian and grandchildren, Tanner, Kaitlyn, Jackson and Sean. Cathie loved and was loved across the country.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29th, 11:00 a.m. at St. Columba Presbyterian Church in Parksville, BC. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life in Collingwood, June 27th starting at 1:00 p.m. at Ian & Maddy's home, 44 Blackburn Crescent, Nottawa ON.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may make donations to the Parkinson Society of Canada .
