SMALL, Kenneth Francis 'Ken' Small - Obituary | Print |

SMALL, Kenneth Francis 'Ken' -

Small_KenAge 50 of Bradford, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness with cancer on August 31 2014.

Cherished husband and best friend of Amanda Small, devoted ‘dad’ to Connor and Rebecca Townsend. Survived by his mother Ann Small, sister Barbara (David) Taylor of Oshawa, brother Brian Small of Oshawa, Mother and Father-in-law Desmond and Patricia McDevitt of Bradford, brother-in-law Desmond (Cora) McDevitt of Sudbury and Wendy Boudreault of Bradford.

He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. Pre-deceased by father T.J. Small and his brother Douglas Small.

Ken was a very proud employee of Honda Manufacturing of Canada (Alliston) for 23 years. He was an avid music fan with an impressive portfolio of concert tickets collected from the age of 15. He loved to travel and be anywhere near the water. Ken was enormously proud of his family and was never shy to show us how much we meant to him.

Although Ken’s illness was brief, it was very challenging. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank our family and friends who supported and encouraged us through this difficult journey. To the many ‘food fairies’ who delivered meals to our home, to our neighbor Terry for keeping our yard maintained, and David Kyle for jumping in to help with anything and everything, and Karon and Tom Langton who coordinated many practical tasks often anticipating what we might need in advance – to keep the lights on while we attended to Ken’s needs.

We are grateful for the care Ken received during his stay at Southlake Regional Hospital. We would like to acknowledge nurses: Lisa, Jody, Lindsay, Kim, Adrianna, Grace, and Nurse Practitioner Norma - who are all a credit to their profession, demonstrating that 'nursing truly is a labour of love'. Thank you for the grace and compassion shown to Ken during his illness and passing. To Dr. Baguio - there are not enough words to express not only our appreciation for your ability to connect with us on a personal level, but the respect and dignity which you honoured Ken with. The world needs more doctors like you. You often said that you were 'just' a doctor - but to us, you are a hero and the man who helped us process and cope with Ken's disease.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to Southlake Regional Health Centre, Foundation – to be directed to Palliative Care.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 190 King St. S. Alliston, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
