Retired employee of the Canadian National Railway. Passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012, in his 94th year.  Marcel Marchand of Midland.

Beloved husband of Pearl Marchand nee Laroque. Dear father of Robert Marchand and his wife Ellen, Wayne Marchand and his wife Verna and Linda Edwards and her husband the late Ron.

Loving Papa of Kevin, Michele, Jennifer, Mark, Pat, Robert, Denise and the late Darrin. He will be sadly missed by his many great grandchildren.

Brother of Laura Robinson, Helen MeGaw and the late Jack and Arthur Marchand, Irene Lavery, Della Monk, Rose Gatehene, Alice Wilson,Wilfred Marchand, Bertha Monk and Matilda Belisle. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie on Tuesday May 1, 2012 in his 76th year with his family by his side.

He was the beloved husband of Ev (Sissy Smith) for 56 years. He was the loving father of Brian and his wife Janet, of Barrie and Theresa and her husband Allen Brown of Cincinnati , Ohio.

Bev was predeceased by his two sons Randy and Garry in 1975 and was the much loved Poppa of Cole Edwards (Barrie), and Jake and Cody Brown (Cincinnati , Ohio).

A Celebration Of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion (147 Branch), St Vincent St., Barrie on Saturday, May 12 from 2-4 P.M.

Dear brother of Eugenio (Rosina) of Orillia and predeceased by siblings Gaetano, Peitro, Carmine, Luisa, Evira and Ermenia. Giovanni will be survived by his neices, nephews and their families.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Guardian Angels on Friday, May 4th, 2012 at 10 am. Interment in Orillia.

CORNISH, Richard 'Dick' John -

Peacefully in his 90th year with family by his side. Husband of the late Nancy Cornish (née Lightborn), father of Harvey, Barbara and Peter, grandfather to Benjamin, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Jenica and Heather.

Richard was a gentle, kind soul with a sweet smile and subtle wit. Lovingly remembered for his love of painting, birdsong, dogs, trains, chocolate and Springtime.

Also known for his playful, affectionate banter with children and adults alike, Richard inspired us all to live in the present with honesty and forthrightness.

Richard was a veteran of WW2, having served with pride in the North Atlantic on HMS Stonetown from 1939-1944.

His children and grandchildren now scattered widely, extend thanks to the warm and caring staff at Leacock Care Centre in Orillia who have served unfailingly as his adoptive family since 2007.

An informal gathering will be held in Orillia, Ontario on Thursday, May 3rd.

EDWARDS, Cecil Harold -

February 13, 1915 - April 30, 2012

Peacefully, at his home as he wished on Monday, April 30th, 2012.

Son of William John Edwards and Sophia McCoy Edwards of North Bay. Loving and devoted husband of Isabel Grey Kennedy Edwards (predeceased on August 24th, 1980). Beloved father of Lorna Ann Genereaux of Salt Lake City. Proud Grandfather of Lauren and Les Patterson of Salt Lake City. Fun loving Great Grandfather of Kade, Devyn, Autumn and Sydnee. Father of Garry Harold Edwards. He was predeceased by his siblings, Ruggust, Marion and Ethel and infant baby brother Clarence.

Raised in North Bay, in 1935 as an avid sportsman and athlete Cecil was recruited to Kirkland Lake to play ball and hockey and was then offered employment in the gold mines. He played for the Black Cats in North Bay and in 1975 he retired as conductor from the Canadian Pacific Railway after 34 years of loyal service. He was also the conductor on “The Canadian” train which he had many fond memories of this elite train. Cecil was instrumental in the fund raising for the new arena in North Bay (Memorial Gardens). He, also held fund raisers, get-togethers in his backyard for the Kiwanis playground on First Avenue East, North Bay in the early 1950’s.

Cecil was a figure skating judge in the late 1940’s and a scout for the Markham Waxers hockey team in the early 1980’s. He was a devoted son and caregiver to his parents and his mother-in-law (Ella Kennedy). Cecil was a member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church, North Bay, a life member of the Nipissing Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. # 420, North Bay, North Bay Lodge of Perfection, North Bay Chapter of Rose Croix, Moore Sovereign Consistory, Hamilton, Rameses Shrine Temple, Toronto and Sheba Shrine Club of Barrie.

An expression of gratitude and gratefulness for the care given by his friends and neighbors, the Hodgin’s, Harris’ and Clarke’s and his faithful doctor of 32+ years, Dr. Frederick B. Smith. A special thank you to Glenna in Dr. Smith’s office and St. Elizabeth’s for their kindness, care and support, and the Red Cross Services.

Masonic Service will be held in Barrie
and his life’s celebration will follow on Saturday, May 12th, with Rev. Doug Crocker officiating. Reception to follow. A private cremation will be held with internment in North Bay, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Shrine Hospital or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

HUGHES, Kathleen Marie 'Colleen' -

Of Thornbury passed away suddenly at Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound on Monday, April 30, 2012, at the age of 72.

Born in Hamilton, Colleen was a daughter of the late Edward and Kathleen (née Byrne) McGarrity. She is remembered as the loving wife of 50 years to Terence ‘Terry’ Hughes of Thornbury.

Colleen was the beloved mother of Laura McCombe of Thornbury, Jennifer Cook of Owen Sound, and Benjamin Hughes of Thornbury and she was predeceased by a son Joshua Hughes.

She was a dear sister of Sheila Dionne (late Ron) of Burlington and was predeceased by sisters Mary Thombs of Hamilton and Eleanor Southern (late Vince Beatty) of Burlington and is remembered also by her brother-in-law Lorne Thombs of Hamilton. Colleen was a daughter-in-law of the late John Joseph and Catherine (née Lynch) Hughes.

She was a sister-in-law of Jack (late Rosslyn) Hughes of Burlington, Brian and Norma Hughes of Carlysle, Robert and Mary Hughes of Grand Bend, Dale and Susan Humphries of Hamilton, and Thomas and Gwenyth Hughes of Burlington.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial gathering celebrating Colleen’s vibrant life will be held at a date to be announced at a later time.

(December 11, 1966 - April 30, 2012)

After a tough fight against cancer, Mark left our lives too soon on April 30, 2012.

Forever missed by his wife Heather and his two brave girls Madison (11) and Sarah (8).

Brother to Dennis (Jane), Gary (the late Diane), Robert (Debbie), Janice (Erwin), Lisa, John and Glen. Brother-in-law to Donna and Kevin, Stewart and Cindy Atkinson.  Uncle to Andrew, Jacqui, Katie, Paul, Kim, Christopher, Kelly, Michelle, Rob, Christina, Keri, Colleen and Evan.

Mark was a dedicated teacher for 10 years at Fredrick Campbell and four great years at Bying Public School in Stayner. He left his mark on hundreds of staff and students. He will always be a Bronco!

Our family would like to express our gratitude to all who helped us through this past year. Special thanks to the staff in the Intervention Radiology department at RVH, Lori, Blake, the Marchand family, Karen and all the staff at Bying Public School and Huronia Centennial Elementary School.

77, passed away peacefully, with family by his side on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket.

He was born on March 8, 1935. Gary was married to Shirley Sauve (Hoover) on August 9, 1971: they were married 40 years. Gary was preceded in death by his parents George and Olive Sauve: his sister Joyce Calverley (Allan): and his son Gary Windover (Patricia).

Gary is survived by his loving wife Shirley: his brother Gerry (Jean; deceased): his daughter-in-law Patricia Windover: his grandchildren Wendy (Herb), Wanda (Don) and Steven (Lynne) all of Orillia: his 9 great-grandchildren, 10 great- great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. Gary will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by many friends and family.

At Gary's request, there will be no service following cremation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Cherished grandmother of Christine, Teresa, Michael, David, Jacqueline, Michelle, Susan, Elyssa-Faye, and great grandmother of Amanda R., Timothy, Matthew, Kristen, Nicholas, Adam, Amanda S., Mitchell, Liam and Emma. Chris Anderson in his 44th year beloved husband and best friend of Stacey. Loving father of Sheridan.

Loved son of Arnold and Gwen Anderson and much loved son-in-law of Terri Turnbull (Kevin Fisher) and Dennis Turnbull. Chris will also be sadly missed by his sisters Vicki (Bob) Bell and Alyson (Scott) McQueen and also his brother-in-law D.J. (Suzanne) Turnbull.

Loving grandmother of twenty five and great grandmother of thirty six. Predeceased by her parents Jacob and Anna Rochelle.

Dear sister of Helen Derhak of Sandy Lake Manitoba and the late Earl Rochelle. Will be missed by her companion Daisy.

Cremation has taken place. A reception to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church 265 Coldwater Road West Orillia on Wednesday May 3rd, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Long Time Teacher at Base Borden Collegiate, World War II Veteran, Painter, Willow Creek Park Owner.

Passed away peacefully at 89 years of age in Barrie on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

Leaving behind his wife Grace of 65 years, six children and their families: Lynn, Martin ( Susan), Darcy (Marilyn), Celia ( Roger), Gary ( Katie) and Shawn ( Kim) as well as nine grandchildren: Tanya, Duncan, Rosalind, Olivia, Laura, Evelyn, Graham, Tasia and Alexis and six step-grandchildren: Kathy, Raymond, Matthew, Katie, Suzanne and Mikaela.

The family would like to thank Dr. J. Beecroft for his care and home visits to Lewis over the years. We also appreciate the dedicated and excellent care that Lewis received while at the Mill Creek Care Centre.

Lewis will be remembered at a private family gathering.

In his 87th year. Thomas died peacefully in his home with family at his side.

Thomas was born in Newtonbrook, Ontario. He was a third generation Ecclesiastical Designer and Craftsman of Church Interiors and a Sacred Heritage Consultant.

Tom continued the work that his grandfather Peter Charles Browne and his father TG Browne had built before him. Their work can be found in many churches throughout Ontario.

He was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy.

Thomas was predeceased by his sister Joan Wilcox and is survived by his brother Ian Browne (Amy) as well as his children Patricia Anne Hynes, Catherine Perry (Michael) and Laura Browne. He will be lovingly missed by his grandchildren Mick Kingston (Linda), Jeffrey Hynes (Miranda), Jason Hynes (Shayna), Joshua and Andrew Perry, Daniel and Meaghan MCLearn, as well as great-grandchildren Jordan Heaton and Mikayla Kingston.

Service in Orillia, on Saturday, May 5th.
