HUTT, Adam Geoffrey Hutt Obituary | Print |

HUTT, Adam Geoffrey -

(July 18, 1990 – December 21, 2014)

Adam Geoffrey Hutt, brother of Olivia and son of Peter Hutt and Brigitte Ann Robinson, died early on the morning of December 21, 2014, two years to the day after the death of his Grandfather, H. Basil Robinson, who he adored.

Known to friends and family as Ads and Beans, Adam was a force of nature, a lover of life, a gifted athlete, a devoted friend, and an inveterate traveler. He was also a man of great intelligence and kindness, a loving son, brother and cousin and a perfectionist who was impossibly funny. He had a smile that could light up a room.

His death, from a rare blood disorder known as HLH, has left a gaping wound, but the memory of his extraordinary life, so richly lived, will be an inspiration to all who knew him.

As former Senator General Roméo Dallaire wrote upon learning of Adam’s illness: “Adam, Some of us are tested much younger than others.  Some of us suffer in a much higher and deeper way than others.  But those who find themselves in such difficult and trying circumstances so often are an example of courage, grace and dignity to the rest of us. Adam, you are such a person and I salute you.”

Born & raised in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Adam attended Parliament Oak Public School and then Ridley College where he met friends & teachers who shaped his life in profound ways. He graduated from McGill University in 2013 and had been accepted into the dual Masters program in International Affairs at the LSE and Sciences Po in Paris, but opted to defer his admission for a year to accept a position in Canada’s Senate.

Working in the offices of Senator Joan Fraser and Senator James Cowan, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, he quickly gained a reputation for creativity, hard work, and good humour. He was a driving force in the Liberal Party’s innovative program, known as Your Question Period, through which Senators posed questions in the Senate suggested by members of the Canadian public.

During his time working in the Senate, he lived in the old family home with his beloved grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Robinson.

The family wishes to thank all those who showed their love and support in so many ways during Adam’s illness. It also extends its sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton for the extraordinary care they provided.

A service celebrating Adam’s life will be held at 4:00 pm on January 17, 2015 at The Memorial Chapel, Ridley College, 2 Ridley Road, St. Catharines, ON, L2R 7C3.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative,, or to a charity of your choice.
