KARU, Maire Onerva Rautanen - Wonder Woman! Born: Hamina, Finland October 19, 1922 Died: Napanee, Ontario September 18, 2021
Mom was 98 and important in our lives.
We miss conversations and the strength she gave us.
Maire and her husband artist Alfred Karu were involved with the Estonian Toronto community. Everyone was welcome in our home, with gracious hospitality.
Her last words were "I love you. I be thankful. I have good family." I stared into her beautiful blue eyes and wanted the image to last forever. Held her hands, wanted to hold them forever.
Thank you Aiti. You are forever ours.

ELO, Eva - (July 9, 1926 - September 17, 2021) -

In the 1920s, Whitemouth was a pretty cold and remote place. Soon after our mom was born, our grandmother figured that out and moved to a house on Franklin Street in Toronto. In the 1930s, our grandfather was killed in a rare car accident and mom left school before finishing grade 9 to help support the family. She worked in factories, sometimes, as she later learned, making nefarious products, but she helped out as best she could.
