KIRBY, Matthew Daniel Brant Kirby - Obituary | Print |

KIRBY, Matthew Daniel Brant -

On November 24, 2014 our sweet Mattie began his new journey. It was far too soon for us, but we trust Mattie knew his path.

Missing him terribly are Alexandria Lusis, best friend and partner, his mom and dad Lynda and Daniel, sisters Caitlin and her husband Bill, Quinn and his brother Timothy.

He will also be missed by grandma and papa Jim and Erma Hofford, aunts and uncles Sher, David, Deb, Jamie, Mike, Libby, Sean and Greg. His cousins Heather, Emily, Will, Adam, Mac, Alex, Isabel, Maryanne, Lucy, Katie, Melissa, Ben, his large extended family, and his many friends, will miss his unique sense of humour and clever antics. Mattie is also being missed by his new Australian family, who he welcomed so dearly at Caitie's wedding.

Matthew will be joining his family in heaven: Uncle Chris, Grandma Mary, Auntie Cath, Uncle Ian, Kip, Sara, Nanny, Daddyhony and Alex's mom.

Hockey player extraordinaire! Pet rescuer, sports memorabilia collector, thrift shop aficionado and champion of the underdog.

Funeral service will be private.  Mattie and his family wish to extend an invitation to all those he touched and loved to celebrate his life on Sunday, November 30th from 2 - 5 p.m. at the Capitol Event Theatre, 2492 Yonge St., where Matt's extensive collection of hockey memorabilia will be auctioned with the proceeds going to a charity dear to his heart.

In lieu of flowers, take a rescue dog for a walk or pray for the Leafs in Matthew's memory, as he shares just one beer with Pat Quinn.

We wish to thank all of our friends and neighbours, the first responders, Sunnybrook Hospital ER and CIRU.

Until you are calm enough to look directly at your anger, just enjoy your breathing, your walking, and the beauty of the outdoors. After a while, the anger will subside and you will feel strong enough to look directly at it, to try to understand its causes, and to begin the work of transforming it.
