SAKELLARIOU, George Sakellariou - Obituary | Print |

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the Sakellariou family announces the passing of George Sakellariou in his 68th year on Monday, March 31, 2014 surrounded by his family after a short and difficult battle with lung cancer.

Born in the small village of Arbounas, Greece, on June 6, 1945, George was forced to leave home at a very young age to begin work and had a working career that lasted over 56 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Anticoni Sakellariou, his cherished son Frank (with wife Michelle) and his cherished daughter Angela (with husband Andrea and daughter Anastasia). He is also survived by his brother Panagiotis and two sisters Eufrosini and Athanasia and their families.

George married Anticoni in Greece in 1969, and they moved to Toronto in 1974 with son Frank and Angela was born shortly thereafter. In 1979, he opened Junction Meats in West Toronto and ran that business for 35+ years. He loved to work at the store and was loved and respected by many in the Junction neighbourhood and by many of his customers. George had a glowing personality, a big and generous heart and a giving spirit - he was a true people person.

As dedicated as he was about running his own business, his greatest passion was his family. He was a devoted father and loved spending time with his children and especially with his granddaughter, Anastasia (whom he affectionately referred to as his sweetheart). He loved and was loved by his extended family as well, especially the Christopoulos families in Toronto. He will be greatly missed.

Although the family's loss is quite painful now, they are comforted knowing that George's pain and suffering has ended and that he is at peace in a better place under God's watch. We will always have a special place in our hearts for him. He will always be loved and be with us in spirit as well and in many, many cherished memories.

The Funeral Service and Burial will be on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 136 Sorauren Avenue, Toronto.

Outside of family and close friends, we ask that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Lung Society, or to the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer fundraising campaign.

DODGE, Mary Paulles (Cluskey) Dodge Obituary | Print |

DODGE, Mary Paulles (nee Cluskey) -

On Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Carleton Place Hospital, in Carleton Place, at age 86.

Beloved wife of the late Arthur Dodge.

Loving mother of Susan Dodge, Peter Dodge (Sue) and the late Barbara Lock (Tony). Proud grandmother of Matthew (Katie), Sam (Nicole), Hilary (Scott), Heather and Stephen; also survived by great-grandson Gareth.

Predeceased by sisters Gwen Quinton (Hugh), Barbara Cluskey, and parents Charles Cluskey and Gwen (Bickle) Cluskey.

Mary was born on June 8, 1927, in Toronto. Not long afterwards, the family moved to London where Mary grew up in a loving household, enjoying outings with her many friends and beginning to nurture her interest in art. While working for London Life and playing tennis throughout the summers, she met Arthur Dodge who was attending the University of Western Ontario. They were married in 1950 and moved to Markham, Ontario, to raise their family.

Mary had a devoted and very spirited approach to motherhood. Her children enjoyed a creative, adventurous childhood where imagination and innovation were encouraged. Meanwhile, she joined the Willowdale Group of Artists and developed her oil painting skills. In 1964, when the family moved to Ottawa, Mary took up downhill skiing in her mid-30s, a sport which became a passion. She was also an avid and highly proficient golfer, loved outdoor life and the family cottage.

Through the years, Mary's skill as an artist developed to the point that she had regular shows at the Chelsea Gallery in Old Chelsea, Quebec. She sold many hundreds of her paintings, and her work now resides in homes as far away as Washington, DC, and the UK.

Aside from all these talents, Mary will be most remembered for her wonderful sense of style, and her ability to listen and empathize; she was a treasured friend to many over the years.

The family would like to thank Valerie Ford, who helped Mary over the last five years and became a good friend.

Private services will be held for Mary at a later date, and burial will take place alongside Arthur in the Dodge family plot in Hamilton, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Gallery of Canada would be appreciated.
