It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernie Gouveia, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.

On February 17, 2014, with his loving wife Judy and family by his side at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover after a brief aggressive battle with cancer.

Born in Guyana on April 11, 1937.

Predeceased by his parents Albert and Thelma Gouveia. He will be dearly missed by his children Michele, Paula (David), Simone (David), Kimberly and Michael. His grandchildren Justin (Maria), Jessica, Maria, Natasha, Sean, Shannon and Ryan. His great-grandchildren Olidia, Ariana and Xavier. He will also be missed by his brothers and sisters, Margaret, Michael (Beverly), Jackie (Buck), Ephigenia DeFreitas (stepmom), Richard (Barbara), Jenny (Hugh), David (Mano), John (Gemma), Fred (Faye), Elizabeth, Roger (Cathy) and many nieces and nephews.

A pioneer of technology whose career spanned the globe with Senior VP roles in Warner-Lambert Int. and Gelco. Bernie enjoyed good food, good wine, good friends and best of all, being with his love and soulmate Judy.

We love you and will miss you dearly.

Interment, Mendham, NJ. Services will be private.

Hawker_MaryIt is with saddened hearts that we advise that our beloved Josephine passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2014.

A long-time resident at Cama Woodlands LTC, Josephine was in her 96th year. Jo courageously and with grace and resiliency lived several years with complex medical concerns including Parkinson’s Disease.

Josephine is survived by her son Ronald (wife Edith), daughter Anne Marie (husband Edward), grandchildren Ashley, Alexander, Laura (husband Richard) and Stephen, great grandchildren Julian and Rowan and long time, devoted partner Robert Miller and his lovely family.

Jo is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Laura Kelly, brother Joseph, Philip and Omer, her much beloved husband Edward Hawker, and eldest daughter Laury as well as many dear relatives and friends.

Josephine excelled at her career as a nurse before she chose to be a stay at home mom. She earned a Lifetime Achievement Volunteer Award from Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Catholic’s Women’s League.

Jo enjoyed travel and being outdoors especially at floral gardens. Jo was a skilled golfer, dancer and a baker of delicious desserts.

Our family extends a most sincere message of deep gratitude to the compassionate staff and volunteers at Cama Woodlands LTC and to Reverend Gordon Bucek and wife Jeanette.

Funeral Service will be heldon Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in Burlington. Interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Autism Society, Parkinson’s Society or Cama Woodlands LTC would be greatly appreciated.

A memorial service in Kitchener on Saturday, February 22nd. Interment will take place in Willowdale.

Passed away suddenly in Whistler, B.C. living life to the fullest on Monday, February 17th, 2014, in his 79th year.

Dearly beloved husband of Ann for 54 years.

Loving father of Grant (Elaine Brown), Michelle Hoard (Tim), and Paula Kane (Rod). Adored Papa of Geoffrey, Cassandra, Dean, Ryan, Connor, Lindsay and Delaney.

Dear brother of Barry and his wife Carol.

Son of the late Charlie and Margaret (nee St. Pierre).

“Hoop” will be dearly missed by all his family, ski, golf and trailer buddies.

Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Monday, February 24th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m.

Our beloved Mom/Bachan passed away peacefully on February 17, 2014 in her 99th year, surrounded by her loving family at the Ina Grafton Gage Home where she resided for the last five years.

She was predeceased by her husband Akihei and her youngest daughter Hope. Survived by her devoted children Bet Kagayama (Tomi predeceased), Yasuko Kamiya (Archie), Fran Orida (Roy) and Don (Mary), 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. Mom/Bachan will be fondly remembered for her warmth and generosity.

We would gather weekly for family dinners and countless special occasions like New Year's and birthdays. Her greatest gift to all of us was instilling the importance of family.

Her passing leaves a huge void in our family and she will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Our special thanks to the 4th floor staff of Ina Grafton Gage for their exceptional care of our Mom.

Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held in the spring. Koden and flowers gratefully declined.

David died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife of 41 years, Gloriann (Mann), daughter Pamela Wilson and son Marc, after a courageous battle with cancer.

David is predeceased by his brothers Ernie, Homer, Arnold and sisters Lily and Zona (Cecil).

He is survived by brother Bonner Law (Mary), son-in law Ed Wilson (Pamela), brother-in-law Wendell Mann (Normie), sisters-in-law Shelley Mann and Catherine Charlong (Kenny), mother-in-law Florence Mann, grandchildren Melissa and Shane Wilson, Marcy, Steven and Courtney Law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends and neighbours.

David was passionate about everything he did: cycling, walking, skating, skiing, hunting and fishing.  An avid gardener and home cook, he was busy all the time. His battle with cancer never took away his sense of humour.

David spent his working years in the mine in Sudbury, then Dunlop Tire and General Motors in Oshawa.

The family is grateful to Princess Margaret Hospital and their Lodge, Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre and the Saint Elizabeth Health Care Nurses and Revera for their special care in the last few weeks of David's life.  A very special thanks to Eric Pitters, Pamela West, Susan Watson and Dan Healey.

Visitation will take place at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234) on Sunday, February 23rd from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.

A "Celebration of David’s Life" will take place at KINGSVIEW UNITED CHURCH, 505 Adelaide Avenue, Oshawa on Monday, February 24th at 2:00 p.m.

At Southlake Regional Health Centre on Monday, February 17, 2014, Bob passed away after a brave struggle with cancer.

Beloved husband for 60 years of Pamela Ludwig (nee Hulton).

Devoted father to Lee Giles (Jeff), Bob Ludwig, Jr. (Lissette) and Jim Ludwig (Angie). Loving Gramps to Lauren (Mike), Scott, Amy, Matthew, Gabriela and Mark-Anthony. He also leaves his dear sister Norma Lee Ney of California. Bob, known affectionately as "Rover" by his Psi Upsilon buddies at the University of Toronto, will be missed for his wonderful sense of fun, sport and thoughtfulness.

A true gentleman, he enjoyed making people smile wherever he went - including at Green Briar or Amica - Newmarket.

Lilie went peacefully to her shepherd on February 17, 2014, at the age of 97.

A lovely woman who cheerfully served her Lord, her church, her family and friends.

She loved music, using her talents as a soloist, choir member and then choir leader. Lilie touched many hearts with her warm smile, gentle spirit, kind heart and generosity. Passed away peacefully with family at his side at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket on February 17, 2014.

He was born October 29, 1925 in Port Arthur, ON.

After graduating as an engineer from Queen's University in 1946, Al met Wilma Wilson and they were married in May 1951.

Al leaves behind his five children and their spouses Susan Dowling (Paul), Sandra Carruthers (Bill), David Perttula (Wendy), Rob Perttula (Joanne) and Jamie Perttula (Sharon). A loving grandfather, Poppa will be missed by his grandchildren Maggie (Chris), Alison, Angela (Shawn), Colin (Brie), Cynthia, Vienna, Matthew, Christopher, Alaina (Bill), Jeff, Claire and Graham and great- grandchildren Jackson and Khalia, as well as by nephews and nieces in Thunder Bay.

Funeral will will be held in Newmarket on Saturday, February 22nd.

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Ernie Plitz of Ajax, on February 17th, 2014 in his 98th year.

He lived a rich life, embroidered with years of woodworking, hiking and camping, always surrounded by his loving family.

He will be truly missed by his wife Irene and his children, Beth (Ron), Michael (Diana), Marie (Alex), Paul (Joni) and John (Joanne). His precious grandchildren, Ron and Vicki, Kate, Christopher and Jennifer, Alyson and Stephanie, Lisa, Andrea and Nicolas will hold his memory very dear.

Papa will also be missed by his great- grandchildren; Jonathan, Andrew, Alisha, Ashleigh, Louie and Hunter.

Ernie is survived by siblings Vicky, Ingy, Sandy, Sue and Doug who made up a family of 11 children in Pickering, dating back to the 1920's.

Passed away in his 88th year at The Brant Centre on Monday, February 17, 2014.

Beloved husband of Dorothy, loving father of Wendi (Michael), Janice (Murray) and Robyn (Ken). Cherished grandfather of Brant, Rob, Ryan, Justin, Jamie, Chris and BJ as well as 3 great grandsons and 1 great-great granddaughter.

George was involved in many facets of living in Burlington after moving here in 1969. His very successful insurance career spanned many years until he retired in 1986. After that he went on to create the Burlington Reuse Centre.

Ever the lover of automobile history and keeping up with children and grandchildren, we will miss his dry sense of humour.

There will be a short service on Saturday, February 22, 2014 followed by a memorial gathering in Burlington.

Passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, February 17th, 2014 at the age of 49.

Marcel will be greatly missed by his children, Madeline and Evan and their mother Leslie.  He is survived by 16 siblings and his extended family in Nova Scotia.

Sister Lena Renaud died peacefully at the LaSalle Manor Retirement Centre, Scarborough, ON February 17, 2014 after a lengthy illness in the 65th year of religious life with the Sisters of Service.

Born in McGregor, ON, one of the five children born to Ulric Renaud and Estelle Meloche.

Predeceased by her parents, her brother Leo (Joyce) and her two sisters Elda (Aurel) Bellmore and Cecile (Alfred) Deslisle. She is survived by her brother Roy (Loretta), Essex and many nieces and nephews.

Graduating from the Ursuline College High School in Chatham, ON in 1945, Lena entered the Sisters of Service in Toronto in January 1949. She received her Professional Teacher Training from the Department of Education, Winnipeg, MB in the early 1950s. In 1953, Lena was assigned to her first mission in Camp Morton, MB, where she taught in the district in various public schools until her retirement from the Gimli School Board in 1988. During those 35 years of teaching, she was not only teacher and educator but parish worker, social worker, friend and advisor.

In 1988, she was appointed Superior of the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Service in Toronto, ON and later the Sisters of Service Mission in Regina, SK. In 2001, she retired to the Scarborough Retirement Residence and, in her later years, was a resident at LaSalle Manor until her death. She will be remembered for her simplicity, service and love of the poor.

The Sisters of Service extend their sympathy to her family and many friends. May she rest in peace.

Relatives and friends may call at LaSalle Manor, 61 Fairfax Crescent, Scarborough, ON on Friday, February 21th.

Visitation will take place at 10 a.m., with the Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. presided by Rev. James Gauthier, SFM, in the LaSalle Manor Chapel. Interment in the Sisters of Service plot, Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto, ON.

Norm passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with M.S. 

Norm was a retiree of the Chrysler Trim plant in Ajax. Stormin' Norman will be remembered as a practical joker who loved his Rock music – the louder the better.

A Memorial Service will be held at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Saturday February 22nd at 1 pm.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

Dear daughter of Jean, predeceased by her father, Ken. Loving sister of Neil. Sadly missed by her niece Kaitlyn, nephews Matthew and Colin, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Heather was a long time employee with the Toronto Children's Aid Society.

Cherished grandmother of Scott (Shawna), Michael (Andrea), Kyle (Jaclyn) and Amy. Adored great-grandmother of Zackary, Aidan, Conor, Emily and the late Mackenzie.

She will be greatly missed by her many friends and extended family at Lakeshore Place Burlington.

She was very proud of being a member of the Burlington Seniors’ Centre choir as well as the Rockette Dancers.

Mom always wanted to be by the water and she finally made it there at Lakeshore Place.

Thanks to all the staff at Lakeshore Place and Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for their care.

Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday in Burlington. Cremation has taken place.
