WREN, The Honourable Edward (Ted) F. Wren - Obituary | Print |

WREN, The Honourable Edward (Ted) F. -

Retired Judge, Ontario Superior Court of Justice Peacefully, on Saturday evening, February 14, 2015.

His race run, Ted left us just in time to join his beloved Janie for a Valentine's Day dance.

He will be remembered with love for the example which, by his life, he gave his children Paul, Michael (Cheryl), Peter (Linda), John (Jackie) and Jane Drake (David) and his grandchildren, upon whom he doted, each in turn: Andrea, Beth, Sean, Katie, Sydney, Alan, Olivia, Gwen, Brigid, Aidan, Alex, Jamie, Clara and Julian. Ted is survived by his brother John (Mary).

Predeceased by some few weeks by his bride, Janie Pratt and by his son Patrick (Sally-Ann), his brothers Stan and Hank and his sister, Barbara. Ted's abiding faith and strong moral compass and his love of the law informed his life.

He loved the bench but took his role as a profound responsibility, always most conscious of the impact of his decisions on the lives of those who appeared before him. His justice was always tempered by compassion for his fellow man and his recognition of the quality of mercy. His humility was his defining strength. Everyone with whom he came in contact, from his brother and sister judges, counsel, defendants, clerks to janitorial staff were accorded the same respect and courtesy.

Ted's children would like to express their profound thanks to Tony Tolentino, dad's caregiver, companion and audience during much of the last year and a half of his life, for his many kindnesses and unfailing good humour.

A Mass in celebration of Ted's life will be held at St. Bonaventure Church, 1300 Leslie Street, Toronto on Friday, February 20th at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant House (covenanthousetoronto.ca) or to The Toronto Public Library Foundation (foundation@torontopubliclibrary.ca).
