LEMBERG, Joan Allyne Abernethy (MAYES) Lemberg - Obituary | Print |

LEMBERG, Joan Allyne Abernethy (nee MAYES) -   "Express Condolences"

April 1, 1931 - January 3, 2015

Passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Toronto Western Hospital. Joan was born in Kingston, New York on April 1, 1931 to Evelyn Mayes and Thomas Moore.

Raised in Kingston, she was very active in the community and was regularly featured in the local newspapers for awards and prizes received for various competitions and sporting events. Her favourites included county spelling contests, dancing, horseback riding and bowling tournaments. Her determination to learn and excel was something Joan displayed all her life and led to her successful career in the legal field.

Joan started her work life assisting a judge in New York and retired from Gowlings LLP in Toronto 50 years later. Nothing quite perked Joan up like reading over legal documentation, completing daily crosswords from all three major newspapers and delving into novels obtained at the Toronto Beaches Public Library through weekly visits . During her career Joan developed many lifelong friendships which she deeply cherished.

She maintained these friendships and others, through weekly lunches, telephone calls and letters that were the highlight of her calendar. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Taisto (Ty) Lemberg of 39 years, her parents Evelyn and Thomas, her cherished grandmother Allyne and her uncle Emerson.

Joan will be fondly remembered for her quick wit, honesty, vibrancy, kindness and loyalty by her many good friends.
