TIPP, Rev. Charles A. Tipp - Obituary | Print |

TIPP, Rev. Charles A. -

It is with sadness but peace that we announce the passing of Charles into the care of his Saviour on December 8, 2014.

Charles (Chuck) was born on March 1, 1926 in Toronto and came to faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 9. He had a heart for God and a love of people and this was apparent in his interactions wherever he went. He married Olive Erb in 1955 and on each anniversary he would buy her a dozen red roses and sign his card 'to my sweetheart'.

In any correspondence with his three daughters Carol (David Stevens), Cathy (Steve Sakiyama) and Barb (Chris Sargeant), he would always sign off 'Numbers 6:24-26'.

He loved to travel and in addition to separate trips to teach seminary in India, he and Olive were both able to visit Spain, Germany and Brazil, as well as having time with their children and grandchildren Ben and Laura (Nepal), Adam and Claire (British Columbia) and Mitchell and Jaydyn (Australia). His life reflected great gratitude to his Saviour.

He served faithfully first as a pastor at Hope Baptist in Niagara Falls and then as a professor at Central Baptist Seminary and Tyndale Bible College. He held an M.A. and M.Div. and worked towards his doctorate, but found his love of interaction with people outweighed his desire for another degree. He had wonderful contexts for connection with other believers: Inter-Varsity, Muskoka and Pioneer camp (he was instrumental in Bill Mason learning to love canoeing) and many other associations such as the Fellowship Baptists and Interserve over the years.

Always his heart was for people to know His Saviour and connect with each other. It was very difficult when his eyesight started to deteriorate, as reading was a huge part of his life, but he faced the loss bravely and with grace and was always very grateful for all he had seen in the years he'd lived. His kind heart will be missed on the earth. He is predeceased by his much loved sisters (Cora, Betty and Hilda) and will be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews, especially Joan whom he loved like a sister.

A family service is being held in Alberta and there will be a memorial in Toronto later in 2015.

In lieu of flowers, please make any donation to Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, 315-50 Gervais Drive, Toronto, Ontario M3C 1Z3 or to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association of Canada.

"The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord turn His face towards you and give you peace." ~ Numbers 6:24-26

Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family by visiting, serving Central Alberta.

WATERER, Marion Gayle Waterer - Obituary | Print |

WATERER, Marion Gayle -

March 25, 1951 - December 8, 2014

Gayle loved her family, her many friends and the city of Toronto that she embraced and enjoyed to the fullest.

Daughter of Violet and the late Joseph Waterer, sister to Erica (Patrick), the late Dorothy (Conroy) and Evelyn (Mousseau). It is with a sad heart that the family mourns her passing at the age of 63.

Gayle valiantly struggled for over 20 years with the rare condition of Budd-Chiari syndrome and ultimately her organs failed.

She bravely fought a hard battle, never giving up and touched the lives of many, including the staff at the Toronto General Hospital who knew her as Marion Gayle. We would especially like to thank Dr. Florence Wong and her assistant Amanda and all the wonderful nursing staff at the hospital. We sincerely appreciate all their care and kindness during the many months that Gayle spent there in 2014.

Friends were important in Gayle's life and the void she leaves behind is engulfing and painfully sad. We are grateful to so many who have given us support, consolation and shared uplifting memories of Gayle's contribution to their lives. Gayle loved to travel worldwide with friends and especially with her (late) father Joe when they visited Joe's homeland of England together. She also loved the theatre and pursued all kinds of arts within and around Toronto and Stratford and she enjoyed many a play at the Shaw Theatre. Her appetite for the arts was almost as consuming as her love of good food and restaurants.

She loved to cook and to dine out; even in the later days when in rehab, many a visitor was commandeered to drive her wheelchair to one of the many restaurants nearby the Toronto General Hospital for a lunch outing. Music was always a part of Gayle's life. She started playing the piccolo and the flute in the Barrie Collegiate Band, which travelled to play in Europe.

Retired from Bell Canada, Gayle worked in Barrie and Toronto and had a lifelong career where she made some dear, lasting friendships. Gayle's ashes will be buried with her infant son, the late Anthony, who passed away in 1989.

March 25th would have been Gayle's 64th birthday and we will always keep her fondly in our hearts and remember her as a young, beautiful, vibrant soul.
