SCOTT, Katie Scott - Obituary | Print |

SCOTT, Katie -

June 9, 1951 - January 20, 2014

Katie passed away in her sleep at home after 4.5 years of living a full life in spite of the effects of melanoma and aggressive treatments. Katie often said that as a Registered Massage Therapist she had the greatest job: she really enjoyed meeting and chatting with the wonderful people who came for treatment in her clinic.

To my Family and Friends
If you are reading this then my mortal time has come to an end. Thank you for the wonderful talks and experiences we have shared over the decades. During these most stressful and hectic times, please find time to do something that gives you pleasure.

To my grandchildren Kayla, Jamie and Gordon Pollock, to my children Michael and Erika and their wonderful spouses Jackie and Derek, and to my Mom, Dad and Sister Maeve, I love you so much and you have given me such great pleasures, thank you. To my love Wayne, you know what I am thinking.

Living with melanoma has not been fun, particularly the past year when I no longer enjoyed a glass of wine during conversations with friends! I knew a lot about this disease before I found the suspicious mole on my heel in 2009. Surgery in Thunder Bay (1997) successfully treated a spot on my thigh and in earlier in 2009 my brother Jim died because of this disease. This time I was not on the favourable side of the 95% who are cured by the initial simple surgery. While the prognosis was terrible and the various treatments were not fun I met many wonderful, caring professionals all of whom were fully committed to my treatment. They never failed to surround me with love and positive energy. Thanks to them all.

One comfort for me in these last days was knowing that my remains would assist melanoma researchers to further understand and make advances towards a cure. A cure is coming, but for now protect yourself from over exposure to the sun – sunscreen, a hat and cover. Do it for me please.

Wayne will open our home for you to gather for my version of an Irish Wake Friday January 31st through to Sunday February 2nd . Please contact him for times wayne_scott@sympatico.ca 905 702 8379

My lesson learned -
"Live every day to make the most of it. You will never regret making the effort.”
