Father Whelan was 81 years old and in his 25th year of the priesthood.
He was ordained to the priesthood on May 8, 1999, by the late Cardinal Ambrozic.
Father Whelan was Associate Pastor at St. Michael's Cathedral Basilica, St. Dominic's Parish, and St. Anselm's Parish.
He was Administrator of St. Dominic's Parish.

Besides his parents, his first wife, Andra Valkers, predeceased him.
Ted worked at the TTC from 1966 to 1997 as editor of The Coupler, and as their photographer, historian, and archivist. Later, Ted worked at the City of Toronto Archives.

Growing up, Ann was an outgoing cheerleader with a zest for life.
She went to nursing school at Montreal General Hospital and after returning to Saint John married Hugh Richards 'Dick' Steeves, who sadly passed away a few years later.
