Cole WalterCOLE, Walter  - Dad had a wonderful sense of humour and intelligence which delighted his family and anyone he met.

He was a gentleman and always addressed people by their names, which he was careful to remember.

A Professional Engineer (4T3), he was curious as to how things worked.

He was a prolific reader, maker of lists and lover of words, word-play, opera, songs and singers. He challenged his family to match his knowledge.

Dad greatly missed Rita (née Taerk), his wife of 67 years who predeceased him in 2010.

Together they lived in Toronto, Winnipeg and Montréal before settling in Ottawa. Dad joined his daughters in Toronto after Rita died.

He is also predeceased by his brother Arthur Cole, sister Bernice Greenberg and infant granddaughter Joanna Ruth Barenberg. He is survived by his daughters Beth Anne Cole (Nicholas Rice) and Judith Carol Cole of Toronto, grandsons Michael Barenberg (Rebecca and Evelyn Love) of Vancouver and Alan Barenberg (Abigail Swingen) and great-granddaughter Ruby Barenberg of Lubbock, Texas.

Many thanks to the staff of the Chartwell Grenadier Retirement Residence; Dr. Jessica Zive and the Palliative Care Physicians associated with the Dorothy Ley Hospice; ComForCare Senior Services of Central Toronto; SRT Palliative Care Team of Central Toronto LHIN and ParaMed ET nurses, especially Marek Dobosz for his extraordinary kindness and expert care over the years.

Thanks to Dr. Alissia Valentinis for her warm and thoughtful care before Dad's decline.

A Graveside service will take place at Jewish Memorial Gardens, Osgoode Cemetery, 6549 Herberts Corners Road, Greely on Sunday, August 12th at 11 a.m. Shiva will be observed at 80 Québec Ave., Toronto, on Tuesday, August 14th from 1-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Donations to honour our Dad may be made to the Toronto Public Library, Dorothy Ley Hospice or a cancer charity of one's choice. Dad loved to quote song lyrics and poetry, including Shakespeare. From Hamlet - "…and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.".
