Freitas JoeFREITAS, José 'Joe' - A proud Portuguese-Canadian and long-time Toronto resident, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2018 at the age of 81.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Mary Idite (Steve & step-granddaughter, Melissa); his son, Nelson; his granddaughter, Kayla (Scott); and his great granddaughter, Eisley Vieira.

Joe was a devoted husband (the late Maria Lourdes), father, and friend to many.

Born in beautiful Funchal, Madeira, Joe and Lourdes wanted to provide the best possible life and opportunities for their family which eventually led them to Toronto, Canada – the place they would call home. A people-person with a memorable smile - Joe was known for his storytelling, great sense of humour and charisma.

He enjoyed soccer (both playing and watching), his time spent at the Canadian Madeira Club (of which he was once President) and the many friends he made while working at Oxford Property Management for over 40 years.

However, if there was one thing everyone knew about Joe, it was how fond he was of his best friend and wife of over 50 years, Lourdes (née Vieira). He never missed an opportunity to talk about her and her legacy - one that they will live on together as they are reunited once again.

Joe will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Lakeridge Health for all of their care and support

Visitation will be held at Cardinal Funeral Home, Bathurst Chapel, Toronto on October 23, 2018 from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The service will take place at St. Helen Roman Catholic Church, 1680 Dundas Street West, Toronto on October 24, 2018 at 10:00 AM.
