MOREY, Carl Reginald  - Born July 14, 1934, Toronto Deceased December 3, 2018, Toronto Son of Reginald and Julia Beatrice (Mabey) Morey; predeceased by younger brother, Paul (deceased 2000).

Carl Morey was educated in Toronto at McMurrich Public School, Oakwood Collegiate Institute, the Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Toronto.

He received the PhD from Indiana University, where he studied closely with Willi Apel and with Paul Nettl, whose assistant he was.

He taught at Wayne State University and the University of Windsor and, in summer, at Monteith College, the Colorado College of the Arts and Indiana University.

In 1970 he joined the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto, where he remained until retirement in 2000; he held the Jean A. Chalmers Chair in Canadian Music 1991-2000 and served as Dean 1984-1990.

Remembered by his beloved daughter, Rachel and by Emma Whitehead and by friends, colleagues and former students.

He passed away after a long illness and choosing MAiD. There will be no ceremonies.
