REID, Curtis Alan - July 13, 1951 – December 9, 2018
He was assuredly a player whom David St. Hubbins would endorse as a "good drummer."
However, it was not Spinal Tap-like spontaneous human combustion which ended Curt's life – far too soon, at the age of 67 – it was the sadly more common scourge of cancer.
"A classic, giant gentleman," "a wise soul with a positive spirit," and even "Curtis is one of the reasons I play rock n' roll" are some of the ways he is being remembered by friends.
A lover of fishing, travel, Blue Jays baseball, visual art and golf, it was his passion for music which defined Curt to most.
Core (previously Cornerstone), East Meets West, Triple Play and Oliver Sutton were bands he loved performing with behind the kit. In younger years, he plied the Northern Ontario bar circuit and University of Toronto frat parties, catching fellow young upstarts (and Ray Danniels agency mates) Rush between sets; in more recent times, he was thrilled to sit in with the likes of his friends Prakash John, Greg Godovitz, Bob Segarini and Ed Pilling. His drumming idols included Garry Peterson, Whitey Glan and Richie Hayward.
After starting his career at CIBC, Curt worked for decades in several international currency market brokerages ("buying and selling millions of dollars of other people's money," he would laugh) where he made many long-lasting friendships.
Predeceased by his father Lloyd Reid, Curt is survived by his mother Eve, brothers Chris (Laura) and Bob (Gina), treasured nieces Remy and Marlee, his extended family in the Hebel Clan and dear fellow denizens of the Black Dog Pub in Rouge Hill. Curt's legacy lives on through his participation in the Trillium Gift of Life donation program. Please consider signing up. Per his wishes, there will be no formal services.
The world is a quieter place without his laughter and his backbeat. Enjoy every sandwich.
