van DIJK, Hermina (Minna) (nee SCHWEITZER) - July 2, 1930 – February 1, 2019
Minna van Dijk passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto the week before last.
Minna was an extraordinary individual.
Arriving in Canada in 1950 as a refugee from Hungary, she carved a career as a respected psychologist who worked for many years for Women's College Hospital and later for Youthdale and the Catholic Children's Aid Society.
She was a working mother at a time when that was still unusual.
Minna leaves behind two daughters, Veronica Lawrence and Ann van Dijk; three grandchildren, Amy Lawrence, Tom Lawrence and Maro Aroutiunian; and a brother, Thomas Schweitzer.
She will be sadly missed by the Schweitzer, van Dijk, Lawrence and Aroutiunian families and by all her loving friends.
She embraced life fully, was generous and strong-minded and greatly enjoyed the company of friends and family.
The many people with whom she enjoyed lasting friendships will remember her with love and affection.
Friends may call at St. George's-on-the-Hill Anglican Church, 4600 Dundas St. W., Toronto, on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 1 p.m. and are invited to stay for the Funeral Service at 2 p.m.
