ESCH, Joan Annie May (Ketteringham) - Dec 11, 1931 - March 12, 2019, at Dufferin Oaks, Shelburne, ON

Together again, at last. It is with sadness that we share news of our mother’s passing. Mom went into the care of Jesus during the early morning hours of March 12, 2019 and will, forever more, be with her one true love, Kenneth, predeceased in 2003.

She leaves behind her 6 children, Ken (Lorraine Anderson), Kim (Charlie Beckner), Sandra (Greg Lombard), Terry (Candi), and the twins, Kathy, and Karen (Dennis Collins).

Together with their extended families, Joan leaves behind over 60 children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Velma Strong and numerous nieces and nephews, all loved dearly.

Joan’s pregnancy with twins in 1967, initiated actions that led to her starting a business at a time when many women were still at home raising a family. Joan and Ken owned and operated this data processing and computer services business, KCL Data, from 1967, until their retirement in 1992, employing over 300 employees at their peak in 1990. Their customers were large corporations like Ford of Canada, Chrysler, Thomas Meadows, IBM and various government agencies.

After retirement, they enjoyed many, many adventures with their group of flying friends at the Brampton Flying Club and at their home in Florida. Many will remember Joan as terrified of flying but she wanted everyone to know, and be surprised by, the fact that she did learn to fly dad’s plane and land it by herself just in case she ever had to.

A special thank you to the staff at Lord Dufferin Centre and Dufferin Oaks. You have all gone to great lengths to help mom enjoy her life these recent years. She had so much fun with everyone at Lord Dufferin Centre and would have been happy to never leave there.

She was taken care of by everyone at Dufferin Oaks with so much kindness and love, that we can never repay. May you all experience long and happy lives with much love for all you do. We will remember you.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Orangeville on Sunday, March 24, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Lower Level. Luncheon and beverages will be available “Casual”

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cystic Fibrosis Canada or Diabetes Canada.
