MARTINS, Jose Vieira Martins - At age 101, was born on February 22, 1918 in S. Miguel, Azores, and passed away peacefully on April 17, 2019 in Toronto, surrounded by his family.
He was predeceased by his wife Filomena Cabral Martins.
Jose is survived by his sons Edward and wife Teresa, Joseph and his wife Carol, daughter Margaret, and grandchildren Joanne, Michael and Jennifer.
Jose immigrated to Canada in 1957 to seek a new life and made Toronto his home with his family.
He spent a great deal of his retirement at the cottage with his loving wife, children and grandchildren.
Jose was kind and hard working, and his love for his family was endless.
Jose loved music and played the clarinet and was a member of the St. Mary’s Church Band for many years.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all those that knew him. The world has lost a great man. Visitation will be held at Bernardo Funeral Homes, Dufferin Chapel, Toronto on Monday, April 22nd, 2019 from2:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 9:00pm. The service will take place at St. Mary's Church, 130 Bathurst Street, Toronto on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019 at 10:00am
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Jose Vieira Martins donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, The First Portuguese Canadian Cultural Centre, or a charity of your choice.
